If any of the agents on the Independent Service network, that have received the recent email from Independent Service would like to discuss the content and the reasons behind the email, please feel free, like a number of agents have done already, to contact either myself on 07791714524 or Julian Hunter-Jones on 07791714522 directly to discuss it further. We would be more than happy to listen to your comments and welcome constructive dialogue.

Re: Anybody wanna buy a washing machine factory?

This is right on my doorstep, maybe the Welsh assembly grant ran out… another example where lack of support for manufacturing in the UK leads to job losses and closures. As a result, cheap imports from Far East/Eastern Europe help the sheds keep the price of finished goods down, thus reducing the opportunity for decent prices for repair work.

Re: Washing machine for the visually impaired

Many years ago, Hoover offered a braille conversion to their machines, in conjunction with the RNIB, not sure whether they still do this, or even if its possible on a digital/electronic machine, might be worth asking though.

    Re: cis status

CIS, is mainly for contractors within the construction/ building industry, and is a sort of PAYE scheme, whereby tax is deducted at source, prior to payment being recieved, would not apply to this industry normally, unless doing maybe a lot of kitchen installations, etc which could be classed as Building works. HRMS website explains more.

Hi Bryan, that must have been some sump you emptied to get 200 pound coins, or have you been at the meters again?

Mr Watt, how kind of you to offer me the possibility of buying a cup of coffee from your machine, does it take real money or the shekels you still use up there?
On an almost serious note, I will give you a call when I’m up there next, probably in a couple of weeks,

    cheers

    Re: Expert Appliance Care

Hi Expertcat, yes, one year on. How are they doing?
Well I can tell you that there are still a fair number of guys still going strong. No names, but the North East, North West. South West, and East Midlands and Scotland all have a number of Ex EAC guys still earning a crust. I too am ex EAC but now work for one of the WP’s, so I am able to keep in touch and pass some work to some of the guys when available.
It would be good to know if any more are out there.
How about yourself, what are you up to?

    cheers

Stollydriver not a risk taker!!!!! I’ve seen what you drive!!
Seriously though, the guys at EAC have been placed in between a rock and a hard place. They face redundancy, but have been given a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. The “self-employed” option!
If they are lucky, they will be able to maybe find somewhere that will take them on. If they cant get a job, most will have no choice but to take the plunge, my concern is that, like kwatt says, they need to do the maths, and realise that it is not all a bed of roses. Manufacturers may be wary of putting all their eggs in one basket, so work will almost certainly become diluted, but it still has to be done, so look around, there are other sources of work, and these need to be explored.
As an ex EAC employee, I would like to wish all at EAC good luck for the future, whatever route they decide to take.

Ultrazap, your Italian exchange rate is way off!!!! As kwatt knows, GIAS works with a special calculator that works backwards!

    Understand the concerns though
