In a new kitchen design (put together by my wife and the kitchen sales chap) electric hobs have been positioned built into the worktop directly above a double built under oven.
Specifically Zanussi ZOU575 oven
http://www.zanussi-electrolux.co.uk/nod … ,8214,8216
and Zanussi ZXE65 mixed induction and ceramic hobs
http://www.zanussi-electrolux.co.uk/nod … ,8282,8283
in a 38mm laminate worktop.Seen quite a few ot this type of instalation over the years with no adverse problems.

I have struggled to get the user manual for these Zanussi beasts…and failed. Similar electrolux/aeg type beasts seem to suggest that the double oven fits between two cabinets (i.e. not in a housing, just on two right angles screwed to the cabinets either side) and right up to just under the work top. However, the hobs require a 5mm gap between the bottom of the work top and the top of the front of the oven plus 20 mm between the top of the oven and the bottom of the hobs. Unless I am mistaken these two can not go together. Am I right?
If you were to pull out one of the double built under ovens in the kitchen showroom you will see that there is a 1 – 1.5cm drop from the front of the surround to the roof of the actual oven itself. As per the other thread on induction hobs 😉 if the top rear of the carcass is removed this will also help the ventilation issue.
You could try Zanussi direct on 08705 727727 they may be able to supply the installation details.

While going for ceramic only hobs reduces the restrictions on hob placement a little it seems to me that these electrolux type built under double ovens leave no space for hobs above – although the kitchen chap is happy to sell them to us ;). A pity because the design seems cute to me with the dials down the side of the top oven to give an unusually tall top oven and a comparatively decent sized botton oven.nobeone wrote:
Sorry, i’m rambling…No probs 🙂

Is there a combination of double built under oven and hobs that can be accomodated or must we choose between a single built under oven and hobs above or a double built under oven and hobs to the side?Your assistance will be much apprecaited…
You can do either of those options as long as the installation is in accordance………..
So many times engineers are called out to an irate customer who has complained that the appliance is faulty or not performing, only for the engineer to find that it`s down to a poor installation :rolls:

Can anybody recommend a budget double oven to fit a 72cm high aperture that either has controls on the side or has some other method of protecting them?
The Electrolux group has been the only ones to produce side control built under double ovens.

The only one I have spotted so far is the Electrolux Intuition EOU41000 but that doesn’t appear to have a grill 😕
Halfway down the technical data list it has the grill details 😉

BTW It has to be white to fit in with the rest of the appliancesThat cuts down the options even more I don`t think you will get a better deal than the Electrolux TBH.

I see. Bosch offer an extra 1 year guarentee when you register your purchase online making it 2 years.
This makes the decision much easier. Thanks!
No probs, glad to help.

Hi dogma
For £30 quid you are getting a 1400m spin machine with a two year guarantee as opposed to a 1000 spin with the normal one year guarantee. Both have a good aftersales service.
I know which one I would choose 😉

Hi Chris
The best deal I know of is the Gorenje BDU7820 available from Gillmans which is the retail side of DAD at Gloucester. Comes with a five year warranty as well. May well be worth phoning them on 01452 528776 to see if they can do a better price for trade.

Don: Exeter, sunny, today? Are you joking? Perhaps the few miles south made more difference than I think – near south molton it was sunny spells at best ;).Fairly good all day 😀 , I even managed to cut both lawns late in the afternoon.

When you say induction hobs must be well fitted with adequate ventilation, does that mean above a built under double oven is out then, or does it mean I must be careful to ensure I meet the clearance between oven and hob etc in the manual? A quick look at an Electrolux induction hob suggests it will be OK in a 38mm work top as long as it is clear of the top of the oven and there is a 5mm ventilation gap between the top of the oven housing and the work top…
To ensure adequate airflow for the cooling fans to function, we recommend that the top four inches of the carcass rear panel is cut away.

ModeratorRe: Halogen hobs old hat?
Hi nobeone
The efficiency nowadays of ceramic rings is by far better than they used to be. When I get asked about halogen hobs, I ask customers “are you prepared to wait for a couple of seconds while the elements heats or cools” invariably the answer is yes no probs. No need for halogen in that case and should a ceramic element fail it is cheaper to replace as well.
another reason that halogen is getting less could be down to the reintroduction of induction hobs, they are more energy efficient than halogen and quicker too. You may need to invest in some new saucepans as for induction they need to have magnetic bottoms. Also they do need to be fitted correctly with plenty of ventilation.
This thread from a little while ago may help Induction V Halogen may help you decide.
If you decide halogen is for you I should be able to come up with a couple of options for you.
Whatever you decide go for a brand name you have heard of for back up later on should it be required.

Hi Dave
The spec for the BWM129 is slightly different from the customers, not by much though 😉 The next depth is on the Zanussi range at 541 mm, models ZT1012 and ZJ1218 much better appliance all round.
