Un-plug appliance first before you attempt any repair :plug:
It sounds like you do have water in the base from a leak.Please don’t tip the machine back as you risk water enering components, you will be far better removing the r/h panel and carefully removing any water found in the base.
Then you will need to look for the leak. If it is the fill valve, then this will leak without any power to machine, as long as the water is turned on to appliance; watch it intently for a few minutes.Greg

We cant give explicit information out unfortunately but I will give you some pointers.1/ In a wash cycle, is there sufficient water in the appliance, ie- water level should just be below lower spray arm.
2/ The heater is accessible by removing the r/h panel, and will measure app 25-35 ohms.

This spare has had a part change and is now called a repair set, so it may be a known problem they have had.BTW the FD 8503 you have shown would put your appliance within the 2 year guarantee period until end of March 2007.
Give BSH a ring on 08702 413381 or 08705 678910 to arrange an in guarantee call.

Thats great , but you will need to get your dad to take motor off again to get the motor make as there are two possible that were fitted. 😡
If its a Siemens (most popular) you will need 154740 app £25 + Costs
If its an FHP then you will need 173028 app £31 + costs.

If it takes a while to come back on but when it does finally activate it reaches acceptable temperature, then it sounds to me like the thermostat.
