Re: Going to buy a new cooker which is best Manufacturer?

Having for the first time an electric oven I got a Homark with my kitchen, and it duly broke. I’ve never known a gas oven break, and i’ve known some old uns.

I’ve now got a Smeg 8 function oven, and love it to bits. It’s had one fan element (a common problem, apparently) and that’s all, gets used and abused, and cooks potato wedges faster than anything else i’ve ever used.

The bottom heat only is brill for making custard tart and quiche things, although I’ve never made a souffle or proper sponge in it.

And the roof comes out for cleaning. So does the door.

Italian Electrics being what they are (I’m an ex Alfa and Ducati owner) I’m sure it will break down some more. But it’s probably fixable and I do like the innovation Smeg apply to their appliances.

So, if you want one that won’t break down much, get a gas one, IMO, and if you want an electric one, you pays your money, you takes your chance.

I aspire to a B100-fuelled Aga, and will achieve this one day.

Till then, it’s my trusty Smeg.

It’s a doddle to cx, I did mine (and I’m a gurrrrl) but the replacement doesn’t seem quite as capable than the old one – oven takes a tad longer to warm up.

    Still a FABULOUS oven though.

I’ve got a Smeg combi, and it’s brill, very fast indeed and not only that, it’s easy to clean because the grill element hinges down so you can use it as a rotisserie – never done that, but it makes it a heck of a lot easier to clean the roof of the thing.

Has a habit of blowing 12v transformers, but I’m sure this is the way we have it wired in, it’s unconventional to say the least and also gets turned on and off a lot.

    Re: Oven cleaner

Dr Beckmanns do a trigger pack of non-caustic that is very good indeed, on a warm oven and leave for some time

Otherwise, buy a big tub of bicarbonate of soda at your local chemist, and use that as an abrasive paste. I’ve cleaned the most manky ovens you can imagine with this and vinegar, and if you can get the shelves and shelf holders in your dishwasher, you’ll find after a good wash the muck becomes hardened and brittle and just lifts off with a light wire brushing.

These are inexpensive options and easy on the hands, the eyes, the nose and the environment.

Re: Bearing kit for Hoover TV30 Tumble dryer

I’ve just sourced several online places to buy this kit. I too have a TV30 that’s displaying all the signs of a collapsed bearing, and am absolutey adamant that this thing is not BER, so am going to fix it.

Available http://www.sparesforhome.co.uk/displayP … p?id=11476 which is the cheapest I can find right now, and not too much to blow if it’s wrong.

If it breaks down completely I’ve no money to replace a whole one, and besides, I have a major problem with our ‘disposable’ lifestyle, and refuse to buy whitegoods that are so cheap their BER envelope is tiny.
