    Smeg bearings

The reason I ask about the price of the spares is that to buy a bearing kit from Whirlpool for this machine would cost £112 +vat retail which is well over the top and the drum only costs £54+vat. I think someone in Italy thinks of a price, doubles it and adds VAT.

These bearings would be a good contender for a new thread called “What is the most ridiculous price you’ve been quoted for a spare part”

    SMEG BEARINGS

Sounds the same as the Whirlpool AWG329 W/D which is made by Smeg.
If any of my engineers come across this problem they normally go on holiday. 😈
Seriously though I have one in the workshop which I use for training purposes and it is not too bad to dismantle the spider and rebuild. The problem comes when the drum shaft has gone, if it has the drum has to come out the front of the machine and will take a couple of hours all in to do. I would also imagine that the parts will be quite expensive.

This one crops up all the time for my business. I have informed LGH, GUS,D&G, Comet and god knows how many insurance companies about this and they all say just go ahead and do the job. It can cause complications sometimes when the insurers expect you to go back and repair an appliance again after 6months hammering in a hairdressers shop.

I always get a “team Leader” in the insurers office to authorise the first call and then if I get a recall I can always go to them and say “I told you so” and get paid for second visit.

I do a lot of work for a manufacturer under warranty and their way of dealing with commercial use is to fix it once and then write to the customer and advise that their will be no further repair under the warranty, it usualy states in the instruction book that the appliance is for domestic use only.
