Re: Rob and Dented – I took readings and…

I have put two meters on the heater and I got the following readings.

From the simple continuity meter I got – no continuity.

From the proper multimeter set to 20k ohms I got an odd reading. It read 1 . That is 1, then a space, then a decimal point.

Do these readings tell us the heater is broken?

This thing has a flow through type of heater. When I look inside I see scale build up. It is only about 1mm thick, but could it have caused the heater to overheat at some point? Is there a reset switch somewhere? How do you operate it? I might as well try that first, if there is such a thing.

Hoping I will solve this. Stay with me guys!

    Regards

    Adrian

[You’ll need to meter out the heater and wiring to rule these out.

What reading am I expecting from the heater element? What does it mean if it is higherthan expected ? What does it mean if it is lower?

    Hi Rob,

I think you are right. There is no gap in the flashes. it just goes on and on flashing without any pauses.

If it is an ntc ( what is an ntc by the way?) or a reed contact problem what is my next step?

If it helps at all I have the Haynes Dishwasher Manual to refer to (but the index has nothing about ntcs or reeds)

The flashing light just keeps flashing. It doesn’t stop so there is no particular number of flashes.

Normally with the whirlpool dishwashers if it does not heat then it will stop during the cycle and the programme lights should flash.Does any light flash?

[Adrian – Yes, thanks for reminding me of this. It does get stuck and the lights do flash. If I press the button for four seconds it starts again, but the problem persists.]

Also if you can give the 85…. number ?

[Adrian – I would love to. Where is it to be found?]
