    Urban myth these detector vans being able to pick up a signal. Even in the old analogue days when they were cruising the estates, they were ratting on doors of households whose address came up as not having a licence declared and supposedly no telly in the house. Lets face it when was the last time you actually saw one? It was all high profile & scare tactics.

    We keep getting letters from the TV licensing authority addressed to names who persons who don’t work here. Usually Mr Smith or Jones where it seems they buy a telly in Currys & then in the store puts our address down as theirs. Every time I phone them and they fully understand, have been told it is quite common.

    So Alex,I assume you too have a pc etc and don’t have a tv licence?

    Have been back to machine today and can report that the heater is not down to earth but the element was scaled up considering it was only 7 months old.Told her to use calgon in future.

    Thanks for all your input.The machine is heating ok but next time i’m in her neck of the woods i will check the heater is not down to earth.
