KeymasterIf you go to http://www.fixzone.com you can get a downloadable demo, not looked at it yet though.
Looks US converted to UK use.
K.
Correction, it does look UK specific once I actually got to read the PDF sheet on it. 😳

KeymasterNope, not in Memphis but I’ve been to that one as well. 😉
I’m in LA next door to Universal.
Move to Vegas on Wed. for a little chilling.

KeymasterRe: complete engineer
If, like me, you’re doing contract work to any great degree and invoicing out on another package as well, like Sage or suchlike, then using these packages don’t solve all the problems for anything that is remotely a volume contract. For single users they’re fine as you only have to train one person, yourself. When you introduce that to others it’s very often confusing and seems a long way for a short cut, especially when you do not have the time to “mess about” with it.
It has always been and likely always will be my contention that technology is great and very useful indeed, but it has to be as intuative as it’s humanly possible to make it. When you look at a lot of the packages we’ve seen they totally fail on that count because they are generally designed by software engineers that have no idea about our business and, really, how simple it actually is. Take the NESN software, Call Manager, it’s desperately simple but just doesn’t cut it these days due to the lack of things like a proper diary and that cannot be added to it without huge expense, so it’s left out. The trick is to make it modular but to link the different modules so that the package can be tailored to each business’s needs.
However on the package that’s on offer here I have to ask just what sort of support there would be on offer for a mere £500? As, for the only one that I saw that would do what is required the basic cost was WAY over £10K, per business! What I want is what I saw, what I want it to do in addition to that and for a lot less than that as most of us just simply couldn’t even afford to look at it let alone buy it.
So to that end we instigated the developement of our own system which we’ve got some really, really cool stuff planned for in it and two developers working on it. The downside is that since I don’t have a pot of cash to hand it’s being developed on a shoestring budget and it won’t see the light of day until at best later this year.
But I am serious about it and you’ve already seen one little part of that project… Repairs@!
And that links into what I have planned as well but I’m not going to scribble down all the neat ideas (for others to steal) that we have, much of it there from actually listening to the people that do the job before a finger touched a keyboard. 😉

KeymasterLOL, if I stop sleeping or sleepwalking I’ll start drinking!
Mind you, BB King’s place is temptingly close this evening and, since it’s Super Bowl Sunday, it should be pretty quiet as well. 😉

KeymasterHi,
Essentially the BS Standard is 60C above room ambient, which in most kitchens will end up at about 80C, not exactly even cool!
There is an article on it in the help section of the site in which I explianed in more detail…
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/buyi … tures.html
Bear in mind that surface temperatures etc. need to be pretty accurate so make sure it’s a decent thermometer that you use. 😉
What you will find most likely is that there is no cooling fan fitted to the oven and that will make the problem more noticable but also check that it is correctly vented. Many of the cheaper ovens require an open space at the top of the control panel, i.e. the spacer bar on the cabinet either cut or removed to enable decent airflow. If this is not correct then all sorts problems can occur. 😕
Hope that helps.

KeymasterRe: complete engineer
There’s not enough information on there to evaluate the software IMO.
With any product of that nature there’s always a cost involed and really there’s no way around that but without adoption by more than GBDAR and Baumatic for whom not a lot of people work work for, it’s really not that exciting either if you ask me. The idea is sound enough though but I’d suspect that, like most of these things, that it’s adapted from something else.
There is a mention made there of “Fixzone” and I assume that will be a paid-for bolt on application as well for what purpose I’m not sure.
Some more info would be nice.
Oh and we are still working on a software package, more on that at Sibson. 😉

KeymasterSo long as you’ve signed the UKW charter there’s no issue with it at all Chris.
If you need better sized graphics etc. let me know when I’m back at my desk (after the 16th) and I’ll get them done for you.

KeymasterEmyr,
If you email Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk he’ll be able to check that out for you. The reason I say that is in case he misses this post.

KeymasterDave is it a US/Canadian machine as I didn’t think that the Homark name was used outside the UK let alone the EU? I guess what we really need to know is, is it native 110/115V and not the UK 230/240V?
If it is on UK voltage then we may be able to help if you talk nice to Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk 😉

KeymasterRe: electra awm900b eco no h/w, making tap water putrid
Paul,
It’s not an old building is it?
Thinking out loud in case there’s still lead piping around in the house.
Other then that there’s no technical reason or way that the washer could cause this and, as you say, it worked fine in the previous house so I’d say that the machine itself is a red herring, I’d strongly suspect the plumbing and not the appliance.

KeymasterThe Qualtex reference is ELE2014 which is the only one I have to hand.
You need to “alter” the fixings but other than that it’s a straight swap and about £30 cheaper. 😉

KeymasterRe: Does a washing machine ‘need’ hot water
No it does not “need” hot water, but it may need a “Y-piece” fitted to give two cold feeds in effect instead.
Hot fill is actually pretty much useless in a modern automatic IMO anyway.

KeymasterI have one sat on my desk!
But the standard Candy one does the same job for a LOT less than Servis are ripping everyone off for. 😉
