KeymasterRe: the worse fan element change ever
Not the same machine but equally as nasty by the look of it.
Why they persist with these things I’ll never know, I can’t even see the point of them and goddam awful to work on.

KeymasterRe: New Fridge/Freezer advice please?
Well, you’re not going to get anything other than a isobutane unit using R600a, no.

Yes.
For domestic refrigeration units… kills polar bears and makes holes in the atmosphere apparently.
Some applications it’s still okay, till they get a suitable replacement.

From a few years back, if memory serves me around 2015/16, all domestic units must use gas that is not CFC based so you’re stuck with isobutane now by law and, that’ll be that. It’s illegal to sell CFC containing ones for domestic use.

KeymasterRe: Do you ever wish…..
That’s why I shut NW Repairs down a few years back, no money it, not worth doing that any longer. I saw the writing on the wall.

Anyone will need the model number, possibly the product or PNC number as well to find out anything for you. 😉

I think you’ll find that many, many of the guys would if at all possible bail out this industry.
Pay’s rubbish. Dealing with customers is horrid at times. Dealing with commercial clients is sometimes little better. Etc.
But the first one is probably the biggest issue, there’s no money in it these days. If you ask about you’ll find most scraping a living, maybe making a half decent wage but that’s about it.
Many from conversations I’ve had are just eeking it out till they can retire.
Talked about at almost every conference in the past five years or more and, all the while the numbers of repairers have dwindled ever downward as people leave or retire.
Which means that, especially if there’s nobody else in the area or you’ve got skills nobody else has like gas or refrigeration, you can pretty much charge what you want these days. That’s the good news.

richard wrote:Sorry Saz but I retired 30 months ago, but I can assure you that when I worked for Hisense their employment record stood up to all the European regulations.
In Europe or in China?
Let’s face it, with the like of Foxconn having to install nets to catch people jumping to top themselves and, that’s Apple who are meant to be the cream of the crop and in the spotlight on human rights, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in all the rest.
And Hisense haven’t exactly got a glowing record….

And for context…

I didn’t Google very hard to find the first one.
