DASAnet does work, if not too well. An image is missing as I think it’s Flash or some such thing that not all browsers can display and it really showns up the graphics qualities as well.

As for the one with the music, well I’d better just shut up on that. 😉

That wasn’t an official comment Richard just a bit more information than I fired on the front page.

I was hoping that someone would pipe up as well about how good it was and that the future of DASA was bright and give non-members cause to look again at DASA but so far, as you can see, it hasn’t happened.

    Cest la vie.

I knew who Martin was reffering to.

Here’s the problem, the more people that know that this forum exists the bigger the exposure problem if it ever becomes general knowledge that it’s here. Anyone asking that knows can simply be told, for now, that there is a private forum and an excuse can be given for whatever reason.

There is in fact more than one as there is a Whirlpool one as well as some for UKW business.

For now I think we should stay “as is” although I too would like to see more input from Neil and Mark in here as I do value the comments… if/when we get them!

    Re: DASA II

There was a bit came out of it Richard besides what was on the front page which was obviously an extremely condensed overview of it all. Basically, the DASA bods are off to think about and try to resolve some of the points raised by Steve Rochefort in his presentation which, funnily enough, were almost identically mirrored on here as well.

A review of the Code Of Practise and the Constitution of DASA have been promised for now and there is an interim meeting to take place in November, most likely with both the aforementioned high on the agenda.

Closer links with AMDEA and others are also being discussed.

Beyond that I’m not really sure what’s being planned at this stage.

I got drunk and quite often make a fool of myself but I believe I was very quiet, restrained and kept a low profile this time around. 😀

Oldtog was wandering around with his camera so I assume there are some incriminating photos somewhere, of whom doing what I have absolutely no idea at all but if I get them, they’ll get uploaded. 😉

Re: ‘No Call Out Charge’ beware!!!

These companies advertise in YP et all and simply leech off the local repairers IMO, they are parasites and I really don’t see that we should support them at all. Those repairs that they do pick up would have to go somewhere anyway and there’s a fair chance you’d pick the work up anyway without paying these jokers their “fee”.

We all know that there is no such thing a s a free lunch and that customers are being mislead at best, conned at worst, by people like this and I think that the ASA, in this case, are absolutely spot on with their deliberations as I sincerely doubt that the system is well explained to customers on the phone. Even at that they still have to understand just what is being said to them, as anyone that deals with the public will tell you, getting a customer to understand all but the most basic of things is often huge challenge. If they see in big bold letters “FREE CALLOUT” then that is exactly what they will expect and as has been proved here, the small print will not save you.

This actually could change the way that the industry deals in general with the public if the ASA decide to enforce it, of course YP etc. will just continue to accept the money for the adverts irrespective as they think that the onus is on you to ensure that your advert meets the ASA standards and legislation. YP got up my nose many, many moons ago and I have not advertised in there for over seven years at least due to thier policies on advertisers, it’s not the best shall we say.

That said, it is still an invaluable tool for many people including customers, I just wish that they had some scruples about their advertisers and giving the correct information.

    Re: Basic Electrical Safety

    Thanks guys.

If I get it into an article form it’s easy enough to put a “Read This First” post in all the public forums similar to that which Martin did for the instruction manual ones. In fact, Martin is duly elected for the task. 😉

After that it’s then easy to refer anyone to the URL of the article for reference in the future.

I think it’s desperately important that this is done as even just the other day we had a De Deitrich oven giving off shocks to the punter, turned out they’d wired the spur it was connected to incorrectly on a new build. So much for quality electricians on site. It is also important that we share these little gems I think, you never know we may even save someone’s life one day and that can’t really be a bad thing.

I still don’t know how the hell I was remiss enough to have missed this as pretty damned obvious really. 😕

Re: Customer trying to claim on insurance.

Pretty much standard practise P, any insurer will look for that to ensure that they are not paying for the same thing twice and stuff like that. Also means that they have a record of what has been done so they don’t pay a claim for the same failure again.

I kinda see thier point and in their position we’d all likely do likewise.

I got the basic wash symbols up here…

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … age&pid=44

It’s not complete but it gives the major labels that should correspond to the programs on the washer.

In all honesty, if this does away with a lot of the free callout advertising then great, I’m all for it. If you ask me that’s the ASA & TS doing us all a huge favour.

As for Premier, well I’ve not heard a good thing yet. Apparently they franchise out to independents around the country so beware.

I kinda want to keep the numbers down in here Martin and I think we have a really good spread of people in here for now.

We’ll see what develops through time.

Yeah Mark you are correct, but it is a fact that protecting a name is a problem when it comes to domains sadly, as many have found to their cost. The principal ones for us of course are .com and .co.uk the rest are really not required, if nice to have.
