I meant to say, if DASA want to pitch in as well I’ll more than welcome that and we can then do the van stickers for DASA at cost as well. Makes sense, saves them money and helps us in the process as well.

    Also serves to promote both.

    Re: working together

Whether you agree or disagree with the sentiments of Kevin’s post the message is correct. We have to present a united front!

Sorry, but it’s that simple and it’s been made abundantly clear over the weekend from several different sources that in the end, that this is the only way forward. I’ll maybe explain more when I’m not totally fucked and the old grey cells start to work again without being clouded.

As for naming and shaming, I think we’re above that, just IMO.

DASA I think we should back off for a bit and give it a bit of time to maybe sort itself out. A subject to revisit in time, when the time is right.

I stayed quiet all weekend because I accomplished what I wanted to at the AGM and I didn’t want to cause an upset in the camp as I’d just get branded as a troublemaker…AGAIN! 😀

Now I’m going to bed as I’m knackered!

Excellent post Richard thanks for that and seeing a debate for what it is supposed to be.

No OT, you’ve not much missed much, just someone gobbing off and accussing others of similar behaviour, as well as casting aspersions on someone’s character. It’s sorted now I believe.

But as was said, we’re not stooping to that level so the parties will remain as anonymous as possible and it’s not going to be re-visited by any involved from UKW.

    Re: An optimistic view!

Na Richard, it’s the same but the actual legislation doesn’t actually get finalised until January IIRC so there’s still some dubiety over certain areas.

You’re right, I think the councils will try to charge the manufacturers and what a joy that will be for them proving the figures. I can see the flames of administrative hell licking the boots of all involved. 😉

However, knowing manufacturers Richard, if anything they’ll put the prices of spares up still further in an attempt to cover/recover some of the cost. Any downward movement on spares you can forget, just look at Distripart, two massive increases this year already and putting the increase on the back end is far more appealing to the sales team that call the shots in the end.

    Cynical, me, na. 😉

Well apparently it’s £300K in the red and £500K missing, rumours abound about the actual sum missing from NESN coffers.

I loved the bit about a director or former director leaving the room though due to a roasting. 😉

The Smeg ones we’ve had the odd issue with, but it is rare and, let’s face it, as service agents we only see the ones that are a problem. 😉

However, based on what I know is out there on some builing sites we service on, the problems are very minimal.

Personally, form the choices given, I’d go with the Smeg without doubt.

Be wary of the spin speed thing, there’s an article I wrote about that in the “Articles & Help” section of the site, as spin speeds can be very misleading. Anything above 1000rpm, in my opinion, means little more water extracted but a lot more creases that can make ironing a bit of a chore. 😉

    Re: DASA

To be perfectly honest Alex, I don’t care.

I will not be drawn into such a petty situation of a slagging match and I have nothing to hide or defend when it comes to UKW. The input from the members is fantastic, as I have said many times before, the level and intelligence of the posts is superb here, the advice given to the public is without doubt (IMO) beyond reproach and serves as a fantastic impression for us as an industry with the general public. By way of that we also serve as a shining example of communication in action for the manufacturers etc that we work on behalf of as well I think. The fact that the public come back here and are obviously recommending the site to others says it all and that is down to you guys, you did that not me.

As for the trade side, yes I know that some WP’s and manufacturers in particular might not like it in that regard, but it was bound to happen at some stage. The only advice I would offer is to try to use the feedback that they get from UKW for free in a positive manner and resolve some of the issues.

If someone chooses not to be a part of it then fine, I’ve absolutely no problem with that at all. But to make sweeping comments with no justification for it is a bit much to take, but so be it.

As for walking out when the subject of UKW is brought up well, again, that’s the choice of the individual and they are perfectly entitled to their opinion whether I or anyone else agrees or not. Some people from DASA just seem to have taken the view that UKW is a threat and they abhor it for whatever reason, fine. Again I will not be drawn into a slagging match on the topic, it’s non-productive and serves no purpose so I will not waste my time being involved in such a discussion. It does however seem a little extreme to say the least as well as a tad petulant. But it’s not my call and I’ll leave it to everyone to form their own opinions on the validity of such actions.

Re: NESN in a Spin Mode

Hmm, you have to ask who’s money is actually missing though don’t you? Given that NESN have (to my knowledge) bought the building that they currently reside in and yet are that much out of pocket and still behind on making payments to the people that actually did the work and have borne the cost of getting it done. I can just imagine what my engineers would say if I told them I was going to partially pay their salaries for the next eight months, or so. I think that puts it in perspective.

Now who’s out of pocket I wonder and why are they choosing to finance what appears to be an ailing business?

If they are still, six months or so on, playing “find the finances” it tells you loads about the level of efficiency in the accounts department. Or is there a scandal there yet to unfold and, on that note, I notice we’ve not had any result on the investigation into the previous MD et all, I wonder if there may be a connection there?

If the current administration cannot get it together and end up in a public slagging match… well what can you say really, that says it all.

It’s an interesting tale for sure, thanks for the info Rudi, a pleasure as always to hear your comments.
