KeymasterMost of the new ones always seem to be the damned PCB that fails and, naturally, it’s a different PCB on every model range if you’re lucky, every model if your not. π
Alex is correct, there’s nothing particularly difficult in frost free really but he left out a firm favourite, the fan motor! They fail as well a fair bit as well as go noisy etc.
On the US ones watch for overfreezing jamming the air flap between the fridge and freezer and the little stat that controls that has been known to fail as well. Often clearing the ice brings it right though IME but they all have their own quirks just like most machines.
Oh and when you hear, “the last engineer that was here a few weeks ago…” just run a mile or diagnose it yourself! π

KeymasterSorry Rod I kinda lost the plot with this earlier as the site was down for a bit and that was a bit more pressing to sort out. I will get back to you on this, or Dave will in the morning.
Or, use the Help Desk or email spares@ukwhitegoods.com and we’ll sort it out for you, it’s not a problem.

KeymasterRob is it just th button you need?
You’ll only get on efrom MFI or an agent for spares/service, you can get it by using the spares enquiry service on the Help Desk to teh left in the main navigation panel. But no-one will be in till Monday now. π
We will need the model number to help you, it’s underneath on the rating plate normally and will by in the format of AHY**** for Hygena products.

KeymasterRe: Links to my www!!!
Martin wrote:Well, I was wondering how come so many enquiries for information regarding servicing of so many obscure brands(Tecnik/Smeg/Diplomat/Asco etc etc) of whitegoods get on this site. I now know the answer as I am getting the ‘overspill’ on my own business website.
You will get that as you may well be the only local whitegoods repairer that’s got a website and so you get the call. If you look at the brands that you mention, analyse the customer that buys these brands you’ll probably find that they are the type of customer that will use the internet to find a repairer when the need arises. Either that or they’ve had no luck in finding someone and so trawl the net.
Martin wrote:It is because of these renegade supplimentary websites that tack on to site like mine and pass on loads of c**p (cyber middlemen)!!!!
What are you on about Martin? I don’t understand that at all. π
Martin wrote:Now I find I am getting (7 days a week/night and day) phone calls from people all over the UK wanting info on who can fix their sodding Smeg or whatever dishwasher!!
Heh, pass them to someone like me that loves them! π
Martin wrote:My problem is that I make no reference to these brands at all on my site, nor have I any intention of repairing them. I need a website to stave off local competition but at this rate I seriously am considering pulling the plug on it totally. Statistically I am getting 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} trade from it and 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} crap!
Welcome to the world wide web. π

Ta mate for the site and getting us all having a yap π
LOL, no I couldn’t stand the questions on why I’m a general or summat! π
You are more than welcome for the site as are all the users I’m just pleased it’s of use.

KeymasterBelieve it or not I think I still have load of the Yahoo posts back quite aways, all archived of course. π
I probably could do something with the stars thing if I could be bothered with it but I didn’t attach too much time to it as I didn’t regard it as a particularly important thing TBH. But if it’s really eating people I will look into it and see what can be done. It shouldn’t be that much hassle to sort, just blag some generic graphics from a few places.
As for the thread, no worries, I do not (like some admin/moderators) believe that conversations should be restrained to purely “on-topic” discussions, I never have and I never will. Conversations take their own twists and turns and very often end up being all the better and more interesting for it as well as informative. I am a great believer in self-moderation, people are generally smart enough to moderate themselves, especially on UKW, it seems to work and as they say, if it ain’t broke…

KeymasterOh alright then, I’m off to bed before I get myself into more trouble! π
I’ll see what I can **** (make a mess of) up tomorrow, or today before some smart person corrects me again. π
So, to recap…
5 Stars is admin
6 Stars is me for some unexplained reason! πK.

KeymasterPenguin45 wrote:True – can we wangle things to get the relevant people (the ones who take decisions) to read these dicsussions? It’s obvious that we have one or two people involved from that side of the business, but the debates don’t seem to move forward!
There are many people that read this site that hold a good deal of influence in our industry. I hope they take what they read and use it in a positive manner to improve things for us all, that is one of the basic aims of UKW even being here.
The debates don’t move forward because in some respects at least, this industry doesn’t want to drag itself out the 1970’s IMO. And I’m not just talking about the manufacturer’s etc either, many repairers seem to be also quite content in their own little time warp.
Things change, it’s a fact of life or they will stagnate and die.
Penguin45 wrote:I take it you weren’t a shop steward at Linwood in an earlier life then?
Ehm, no hardly. I never agreed with trying to save any industry that was effectively dead through industrial action. Whilst it does have a place it should be used only as a last resort when all other avenues have been exhausted. Apart from which, we all rely on being out there working to earn a crust, it’s hardly sensible to cut your nose off to spite your face is it?
The days of unions have passed us, but industry in general I think may well now face the real possiblity of a return to those dark days, within the legislation of course for the most part, if many corporations and even government are not careful. But that’s not in the remit of UKW as it’s politics and social economics, which is a bit off the track here. π

KeymasterD’OH!
Then I suss that admin are SIX stars, not five! I think it goes to 5 at 500 posts.
And the biggest embarrassment is, it’s in a thread about counting! π π³

KeymasterOkay then, I’ll stick another rank in if you like just give me a name for it.
No chance of another star though, the five stars are for the five star admins only! π

KeymasterPenguin45 wrote:Unrealistic I know, but a spot of the old 70’s “One out, all out” might shake them all up a bit! After all, we’re not an organised trade union, are we….. ?
Nope and there is no intention on my part to ever go that way. Personally I abhor the notion of unionisation and I do realise that’s not very “Scottish” of me, but like I should care.
That said, simply getting the information across to allow people to come to an informed decision is very often enough to turn the tide. π

KeymasterRe: GB DAR
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:What the hell is it with these companies? Have they not figured it out they will eventually run out of friends?
Apparently not π
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:Candy who divorced themselves from their repair network, despite better advice, now they are begging help when they meet something that is beyond their skills.
Funnily they called me yesterday again asking if I’d do a call, I politely declined for two reasons.
1. They hacked me off big time along with a lot of other people and, in some cases, caused the demise of some respected agent. I don’t like that much.
2. I will not jeapordise ISDAL’s position even if I don’t agree with the rate or the politics of it. The laugh of that is, I don’t even work for ISDAL!
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:Brandt, they terminated with 1 working dayβs notice, who may I ask is keen to deal with that lot these days? Treated the agents like dirt, and are totally oblivious to the fact. Still today they refuse to accept the fact and poor old D&G are left with the spoils.
Can’t argue with the facts really can you? I also know a few retailers that were none too happy about the “changes” implimented by a party of one who, funnily enough, came from a Korean outfit.
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:L.G. Electronics, separated from Service Force due to accounting issues, lost most of the smaller agents for the same reasons and now moved away from I.S.D.A. Gone to CDSL after stalling with D&G and then trying to woo Service Force back again.
It is fun though to watch. π
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:Beko, was sniffing around GB DAR, now they are mistrusted by all involved with them as they are seemingly unfaithful.
Now why would that be I wonder?
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:Domestic & General, the Hotpoint GDA business was snatched away as GDA imposed a deal that prevented work going elsewhere, now D&G are trying to resurrect that one as GDA cannot meet expectations. Β£67.50 all inclusive of parts.
Short term too from what we’re hearing although I have yet to speak to D&G on this subject but thus far the volumes, in my circumstance, are too low to even consider a fixed rate.
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:These are to name a few that we have been reading about on these pages over the last year.
Slews of it now on here, all nicely documented and there for all to see.
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:This is an ever decreasing circle and as demonstrated by the D&G GDA thing as well as Gias/Candy; it has started coming back to agents, the very same ones that were not good enough in the 1st place despite years of support given by such agents.
As I say, they must get to saturation point and we all have good memories.
Of course this is so and there are fewer of us around with the skillsets and know-how etc to actually cope with agency work, those that are around have been around…the block several times!
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:GB DAR and Crosslee I will wish them all the best, it wonβt be a marriage made in heaven but I suspect they may have slept together in the past. Dare I say βNational Homecare is not dead, it is just restingβ. Just see how GB DAR grows and what comes under their jurisdiction in the future.
Now, now Rudi how could you possibly insinuate such a link from the evidence at hand? π There is no connection between GB DAR and National Homescare, remember, they told us so so it must be true. π

KeymasterAh but this is for working out a mark up where there is no retail to work from or when someone says “mark up by XX{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}”. If you do it that way then when you reverse it then you come back to the buying price, not a lower figure.
Yes, to take off the true VAT content divide by 1.175 and it’s always right, simple.
What do I know, it’s German, it’s efficient and it works. π
Oh and that was done in the days when AEG was AEG and not a cheap badged (or is that bodged ;)) effort.
