Re: Tumble dryer and washer dryer capacities

To steal the old school question…

What weighs more, a ton of feathers or a ton of coal?

Obviously both the same weight but two massively different volumes but if you think on it a little, the very reason that using weight to define laundry loads sizes is a fool’s game.

Something dreamt up by the manufacturers or government that customers could understand but in reality, it’s useless.

If you have a 50 litre drum you could say you can fill it to about 35/40 litres full but doing that to be fair, a lot of people would not get their head wrapped around.

So the rule of thumb is, hand width from the top of the door or roughly 10cm and that’s the maximum load. That will not be anywhere even remotely close to the rated weight capacity as that’s a theoretical maximum you can never, ever achieve in real world use.

What weight it is really isn’t relevant at all.

Re: Random brown stains on chino type trousers after washing

Yes it may appear that they are not but, that can still be the cause.

Anything that is on the clothing can attract dirt or whatever in the wash and hold onto it, thereby creating the stain.

At a guess, without seeing it and considering it’s on two machines, it has to be a use thing, no other possibility really and my top contender would be a variation of this…

Could be something else but, it’s certainly a use thing.

    Re: Please help

It could be the sensor in the fridge or the evap one but from the description it could just as easily be a naffed compressor.

Sensor not so bad. Pain to change but can be done.

This one if you need it:

With more info on them here:

If the compressor is gone it’s a death sentence I expect as that’s not repairable DIY and not cheap.

This will answer most of that…

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix- … ompressors

Compressor can be gotten for a lot less than that. 😉

Labour and someone skilled in doing it, not so much. It’s normally at least 1-2 hours work plus sundries.

David, I’d bet that this is what’s happening but, internally…

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix- … g-machines

If you don’t solve the actual cause of the leak then the water will go somewhere else ultimately. Or cause another issue possibly.

What you describe, the rusty base, leak from the hose/s are classic overloading and overdosing symptoms and, I do mean classic to the point I can almost 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} guarantee that’s the real problem and, has been for a long time.

Feel free to ignore it but don’t be surprised if it comes back to haunt later.

Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

I forgot to mention this as, sometimes it’s forgotten that (shockingly) it’s not just the UK that has tumble dryers and (shockingly) it’s not just the UK that have a few problems with the damn things bursting into flames….

    http://www.dryerventcleaner.ca

Would you believe it, the exact same problems in a whole different country!

But the nice and sensible Canuks don’t bother with stupid nonsense claims about who’s paying or trying to make someone a criminal over it, oh no, they just get the thing cleaned and crack a Molson.

Not just the UK. Not just Whirlpool.

It’s a problem wherever there’s tumble dryers, regardless of who made them.
