KeymasterNot quite accurate in my estimation. She’s not after a job in Brussells at all, just her name in the history books I expect and a cushy after-dinner speaking gig.
She’d throw Scotland under the bus to get independence for.. ehm, Scotland.
As I said to an SNP superfan recently extolling the virtues of SNP-ism and independence, the solution to a disaster caused by raging nationalism and lies is not more raging nationalism and lies. Two wrongs do not a right make.

KeymasterI think closer union was inevitable to some degree but, it’s not the degree that’s been touted by many a newspaper etc.
The UK sets its own laws, it always did and “accepted” EU rules to enable access to the wider market, and any it didn’t like it could and did veto. Just as any other EU member can do. Which is why the “deal” that they get, if they get one, could be nixed by any other member deciding they don’t like it.
Political union… uhm…. so if the EU dictates in any way what we do in the UK, how come we left? And, how come the UK is making up its own rules and, breaking ones it doesn’t like? If the political union was a thing, they’d not be able to do that. Once more, misinformation largely. Though now we’re headed down the path of being a rogue state like North Korea so you know, the people just believe what they get told.
Legal… we kinda have our own judiciary, courts, judges, framework and so on. It is only when we run up against international law that we agreed to adhere to that it is overridden to some degree. But see the above paragraph.
Now though our government seems to think it’s okay to just break the law when it doesn’t suit a la Internal Mrketds Bill and upcoming finance one as well.
But if I break the law or, you do, you get punished. For them it’s all okay, nothing to see here, move along now.
And that’s to try to stop the mess that will be Ireland. Kinda, maybe, who the hell knows anymore?
Military union, another pile of newspaper c**p. There are no plans for an EU army at all, none. Not a scrap of evidence.
But if they keep on running the forces down it may be a good thing if it were to be and, it’d save a fortune and it’d make others comply with the whole Nato thing. You know, the international law/treaty stuff that we agreed to. 😉
All the time I speak to people that think this stuff is simple just do this, do that and so on with absolutely not a frakin’ clue about it or scant knowledge of the topic or how complex this stuff is. You can’t just do as you please and that’s okay, the world doesn’t work like that at all.
As I am sure you realised Jim trying to fathom how NI and so on will work as that’s a total disgrace, an utter nightmare and even if you’re one of the people (not you Jim) that thinks NI should be thrown under the bus (maybe with £350 million on the side) the UK collectively, us all, have an obligation to look after our citizens not just abandon them when it doesn’t suit the political weather.
For me, that’s just totally beyond the pale and who’s next, Scotland, Yorkshire, Kent, Essex… what will they sacrifice in pursuit of sunlit uplands and unicorns that anyone with a functioning brain can see simply does not exist.
I shall park my rant there, for the time being, I reserve the right to grab the soapbox back at a time of my choosing. :p

KeymasterPretty much, yes. An accurate assessment.
And we can’t send stuff to NI, possibly EU states also as it’ll be too costly and too much hassle.
But discriminating against our own people (NI) just seems insane.

KeymasterIt’s possibly a cooling fan problem but, no way to know as De Dietrich as they were when that machine was produced, went bust in 2013 so there’s no support at all any longer and pretty much no info on that model now.
It also probably makes it a moot point as virtually all parts are obsolete.

KeymasterYeah, I should probably pick a side of the debate to support eh?
Oh, I did… the common sense one! 😉

KeymasterIn theory, yes as it’s the invoicing stuff so ASWO/LF *should* deal with it.
But “normal”… forget that for a plan.
Expect to see delays on pretty much everything especially if we, as currently we’re set to do, crash out of the EU with effectively bugger all in place but bluster, rhetoric and exceptionalism to get by with. Reality is about to bit the UK on the a$$, hard.
So far all day I see/hear ads from our esteemed team of idiots at the helm, just my personal view of the muppet show currently running the country, to “GET READY” for what, they don’t freakin’ know, can’t tell anyone and haven’t’ a bl00dy clue what they’re doing themselves. So, how the hell is anyone or any business supposed to get ready, get ready for what exactly?
Many haven’t seen the potential s**t show that’s about to happen as it’s not affected smaller local companies as thus far, no impact but as soon as the transition period ends and we exit the union there will be changes, big ones. Then you’re gonna know all about it.
And, until there’s an actual plan or an actual deal and, if a deal what that actually is, nobody has a freakin’ clue how it’ll work or even if it’ll all work.
I think people know my views on Brexit quite well (it’s a monumentally stupid idea and a source of national shame) but much of it is about to come home to roost, some already has and I am sorry but as pretty much no appliances or spare parts are made in the UK and the vast bulk comes from or through EU distribution one way or another you guys better brace yourself as with this utter shambles on top of the pandemic life is about to get extremely hard.
So much so I’ve been asked about it by suppliers into the UK who, as of right now, have no clue what the arrangements are either and cannot get information on it. Meaning, they cannot prepare for it as they’ve not a clue what “it” actually is. Meaning when they do find out, they’re not going to be “ready”.
Unless the UK government fix it. But, looking at the Grand Buffoon and his cohort of mouthpieces, I can’t say I’ve got the confidence they will, the current track record doesn’t lend itself to inspiring anything but ire. Maybe the civil service will save them, the one’s they’ve not done away with of course.
But, it’s what the public voted for so, we all just have to put up with it, even it if destroys the country and, your business.
For those that “believe in Brexit”, you can revel in your “win”. Quite what you won I have no idea, but we all need to live with the consequences.

KeymasterControlling that, with the fan working, is the thermostat and switch and that’s really all there is. Anything else would make the oven dead completely I’d think.

KeymasterSo far as I can tell, no, it can’t be.
You could take the lid off but there’s not any cover or kit for it.

KeymasterBoth, some of the newer machines have been bought in.
The actual Smeg made ones are okay but washer dryers are, IMO, bad news in any event.

KeymasterGomer wrote:I’d gladly forgo the flexibility to have the solidity.
You might be okay with that, how many other people looking up specs will be? Forgo a place setting or two and have to have it explained at length why that they can only have 12 place settings, not 14 as it makes it more durable.
Manufacturers cater to mass market demands, not individual ones.
If people demand durable and the proof, manufacturers will cater to it. If not, they will not.
As ever, the power rests with the consumer but, all or a “reasonable proportion” of them and not just a few. The few, they can’t be bothered with.
So to answer the last bit of your post, no. As people generally want that flexibility and look for it when buying so, it exists and machines without it won’t sell when compared to one that does. Therefore, from a manufacturer’s perspective, there’s no point in making one that doesn’t have it.

KeymasterNot a Smeg dryer, just don’t.
They don’t make any, they’re all bought in and rebranded. Explanation of that here, a lot of dryers are rebrands as hardly anyone makes them really as they’re only a Northern European/North America and bits of Australasia thing, not widely used outside that other than commercially.
Lot’s a Smeg stuff is good, but not that.
