It won’t stop it “working”.
Water will condense in there, form an ice ball and push the liner out, the fridge will not maintain temperatures correctly etc, etc.
Which is probably why it was gotten rid of.

If the inner liner is split or loose as I think your mean, it’s scrap I’m afraid.
You can, theoretically repair it but it’s a huge hassle and a lot of work to do so.

No, sounds like he really doesn’t know refrigeration. Seeing that from people that are not trained in refrigeration or understand it is pretty commonplace.

Just tested a Hotpoint and Whirlpool.
Do not recommend them as the wash performance is utterly woeful, like totally terrible.
It doesn’t show up in images but on the test swatches you’d struggle to tell the difference between a 40 and 60 wash and they’re not all that much better than the blooming fast wash! Shockingly bad.
But then they are A+++ -30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} so methinks some temp cheating may be happening, just a hunch. 😉

The only way to know what’s going on is to test the temps and if required break the gas system and check that but, that’s you into specialist stuff that is not DIY-able.

From what I can see of it, it’s a frost free with a wet wall fridge and from the description I’d suspect that the compressor was pumping weak as, the freezer will get first then the fridge but it sounds like it’s not reaching there.
All too likely the freezer won’t be hitting a mean temp of -18˚C either if you were to test it.
