All UKW members have done is to offer personal comment on events as they unfolded in an open trade forum without censorship, no more and no less. However it would appear that UKW is being used as a convenient scapegoat for other’s failings. So be it, I personally don’t care as anyone that reads this site wil be well aware that that is not the case, the information is there as the poster sees it from their own point of view what people do with that comment is up to them.
K.And long may they continue to do so !!
For too long the work providers have treated their Agents like mushrooms (keep them in the dark and feed them Bull***t)
Finally their is a single voice .
I used to get regularly beaten up about my figures on a certain contract ,Mine was one of the worst in the country etc,etc then when you got talking to other agents ,Guess what they were also the worst ,We were all being fed a yarn .
The great thing about UKW is we can share Experiences,Knowledge ,Expertise etcK.

The only way that the likes of NESN or other WP’s of that ilk can get this work is to do it cheaper. So, all this propoganda about us doing work direct and lowering the general rates for service in the industry is a total falicy. A lie really, since the only way that the WP can obtain the work is to do it for less than the OEM’s own service network. Think about that.
.This really makes my blood boil !The WP takes a cut They call a management fee!Well if I was still an NESN agent I would want my money back ,as this whole fiasco has’t exactly been well managed has it !
I have spoken to two friends in the trade today both of whom are worried about there future,All Due to people not looking at a bigger picture.
When are the WP’s going to realise they have an ever decreasing pool of labour available to them and that they need to look after them not restrict them at every turn.
I hope some of that made sensejust remember if you swim with Sharks you run the risk of being eaten

kwatt wrote:You just have to ask yourself if it’s worth the hassle and aggro of doing such work, I decided it wasn’t.
TBH, I’m doing work for other people that pays more (a lot in some cases), involves a far smaller stock to get the first fix rate, is a lot less aggro and far less technical machines which means I can get more calls done in a day. No re-programming boards or tub lifts, or very rarely at least whereas on this contract these sorts of problems seem to be the norm.

Aaah now theres a machine that brings back memories ,And we also used to sell tons solely because of the tub system.
If I remember rightly we could almost guarantee a sale if we went to a Bdx/Philco with a vitreous tub rusted through on the suspension bracket (remember that fault) .
I can even remember the sales pitch
Eng “well madam what you really need is a machine with a stainless tub ,but with no load on the tub itself .
Cust “is there such a thing”
Eng “well…….”
Mind you we could sell a candy then knowing it would be reliable,On friday I went to a Candy Turbo we sold 15 years ago!,apparently we changed the timer under warranty and thats been it ,It now only needs a pump (thanks for the part number Dave )
I think at one stage we were the only people in the area selling Candy
we bought them through Candy at Bromborough and then through Anton domestic appliances (long gone I think ) .Fond memories

Thanks Bonz but you know how much thought went into that decision ,But to be honest I was fed up with others effectively running my business,Dictating what I did and when I did it
I have seen the rates on offer with this “new deal “and frankly I think they are unrealistic for the product .
One thing Jonathen Trubshaw once said to me was “you have to decide what you can do for the money you are being paid “I decided I couldnt administer the CDSL work ,Change Zan Tubs (sometimes three/four in a week),put up with grief from the customers all for the rate I was being paid.
as well as problems with NESN ,i.e continual late payment(which breaches their own service level agreement) ,lack of communication on major issues .
not being able to retain good engineers ,etc etc
we took the decision to lose our premises ,lose contracts incl NESN ,and Not to pick up the CDSL work ( I too have along memory).
It wasnt an easy decision but for years I had been dancing to every other buggers tune and now for the first time in a long time I feel in control of my own destiny
If anyone wants to know any more ring me ,Or PM me

Of course this is only the application of the underlying inflation rate, it does not account for additional services and costs such as reporting, mobile calls, e-comms etc. etc. that have been introduced and “expected” FOC over the years. Nor does it take account of the huge rises in the cost of labour or fuel in our little industry.I’m sure that will probably give some of you a bit of a surprise and some food for thought. I wonder how many of us as still being paid the 1994 fees for some contracts.

Sorry Sumphose but every Servis Job I go to I get the same comment “the m/c is only 2,3,4,5,6……….mths old (Dependant on model)” then when you get talking to them its a Miller brothers special £239.00,Or a Makro offer or from currys and so it goes on .
In my experience customers buy a product and rightly or wrongly expect it to last ,but this did set me thinking how many people buy by Brand and how many people buy on price ?
Just a pointer I have recently bought a digital camera I read a lot of reviews and compared this with the options I required and came up with a Fuji I then searched for the best price ,All this despite having a faithful old Canon for years .
Her Indoors has just added who buys the m/c for its options ,How often have we heard If I had known that when I bought it…..
And so it goes onRegards from freezing suffolk
