ParticipantTo my mind its the usual requirements, decent rate, easy admin, fast delivery on parts, focus on getting the job done and customer happy by using reasonable KPI’s, but as ever it all depends on whether there is enough interest to make it viable

Participanta couple of quick ways to ascertain if its the stat, if you leave the stat dial at 12oclock and start the oven does the stat indicator light come on immediately without you touching it 9If it does then its the stat) or put an oven thermometer in the cavity and set it to 150 deg and see what temp it is when it cuts off

ParticipantI tend to suggest if they want cheap as chips then buy on budget, otherwise go for Beko – I agree Samsung, Smeg et al are over rated, the trouble is there is nothing to differntiate between them, interesting no one here has mentioned EBAC

ParticipantI remember the keymatic, but am not old enough for the sloping front one, although my old man still talks fondly of them, I just about remember a Hotpoint 1600 with an indicator on a cord ??

ParticipantSmeg are now sourcing from all over the place, some refrigeration now Vestell as well as whirlpool, some of the integrated refrigeration is electrolux, freestanding laundry for a while has been Beko, cookers still made in the Smeg factories, the integrated laundry is still the same as the BSH ones.

ParticipantTried it, could never get it to work and there was no back up at all, then D&G binned us after 20+ years with no notice, so never pursued it , have used Rapport with no issues

They’re advertising on the net for people who want to set up as self employed appliance engineers, they apparently give free help and advice to startups & help them find work.
That will be because they cant get the likes of us to do work for them

Participanton this subject, does anyone know if BSH will give tech info to independent’s, last time I tried I drew a blank, but we had a customer phone on Fri as Bosch had given her a service visit date of 8th Oct for her Fridge Freezer, when we declined due to lack of tech etc she went back and complained to them and they said they are happy to give tech advice to independents we just have to ring…
