ParticipantRe: Some Good News
At last a realistic labour rate : 🙂 for laundry anyway ,I am going to ask if there will be any info on how to get into the damn floorcare products though(if anyone from D&G reads this I will be asking nicely!)because as we all know the higher the first fix rate the better all around,Havent repaired that many micros in a while though except the odd brandt . 😕
But as Ken said its nice to see them asking the opinion of the people at the sharp end 😀

ParticipantRe: CORGI Training for engineers…maybe not!
Its now got serious ,I have consulted with CORGI and explained the problem we have and whilst they were sympathetic the rules have changed (again).
We spoke to an assesment centre who have advised that CORGI are getting very strict on entrance criteria ,To get an associated trade qualification I am booked an a Fossil fuels course in January of next year ~a 4! day course to gain a Qualification that is of no use to me to then do another 4 day course to get a qualification that is of some use to me only to have some work providers trying to pay me as little as £32.00 per job!
One of the manufacturers has got to take this up with CORGI as soon they are going to have nobody left to repair their appliances !
I am seriously Jarred of with this whole issueLawrence

ParticipantRe: Most ridiculous part price
Have just seen this one ,It reminded me of the time I had to Get Authority to fit one of these elements from AON ,It took me at least five mins to persuade the guy on the phone I was serious and that was the price!

Participant18 Months ago I had a shop 2 engineers ,one call handler, and a very stressed wife who was working too hard because she had to!,I was on the road ,in the office sweeping the workshop with a broom up my a**se,And sitting at a desk seemingly all at once because I had to 😡 .I then lost both engineers and couldnt replace them so guess who took up the slack yep that will be me then . 😥
all the time I had WP’S pushing work at me ,so I used sub contractors which was great until they are too busy.
In the end I figured it isnt about volume of work its about Quality of life , 💡
We made the desicion to shrink ,we went studied our overheads ,worked out what we needed to make per call ,Then looked at the contracts we had at least three didnt meet that criteria so they went ,my thinking I might as well lose money at home with a cup of coffee, but because my time wasnt being swamped by low margin jobs I could respond to cash work much quicker ,which by definition improved cashflow.
on top of that we closed our shop and moved the office and stores home
And lost another contract because it was a fixed rate that wasnt realistic to the work we had to do for that fixed rate
result happy wife (Result !!) I Can sleep at night and my kids see me (bonus) I once had dreams but I am afraid because we chased any work and not the right work it soon became a nightmare
I have been in this industry all my life but I am saddened by the way in which its going but hopefully ther will be enough of us left to do something
in the long run
in the short term I am afraid very afraid
