okay as embarrassing as it is I need to post this incase others make the same mistake.
When you swap the element make sure that the correct connections are going back on as should. So what I mean by this is when I unscrewed my blown element and finally managed to get it out far enough I took a photo of the connections. However the crucial part here is that it was really hard to get it out. Eventually I persuaded it to come out. The problem is that before I took the photo a cable had come off so the photo I took was not enough. Luckily with the trouble shooting I checked back at an old forum post I had made that described the connections. The post is cooker-oven-forum/smeg-suk92mfx5-heating-element-stopped-working-dual-fuel-t5656.html and the cable diagram is
LEFT
|—Orange & white on the left most connector
|—
|
|—Green & yellow on the middle connector
|
|—Solid blue on the right side of the middle
|—Blue & white on the very right hand side
RIGHTI was missing a cable so I pulled out the oven (with a little help) and took of the 6 screws from the back panel. I had of course already turned off the electricity. I then could see the cables (see attachment if interested of photo of the oven with the back cover off). I could see the cable I was missing was the blue and white one. I poked it through, connected it all up blah blah blah and sure enough I had a working oven again. It then took another 30 minutes to clean all the years of sludge from off the walls, put the cover on tested it again and bingo. I am expecting apple crumble soon 🙂
Very pleased but just wished I hadn’t made it so hard for myself!
Good luck 🙂

I have checked the element and the new one I ordered too. Both also show the resistance as being fine. However when I connect them up to the cooker they are not heating. Next step was to measure the power across the terminals. I am getting 0 so no wonder the element isn’t working. Kwatt, you mention a switch, what switch is this and how do I get to it? is there a fuse in the cooker somewhere that may have blown? I’d prefer not to drag the cooker out to get behind but if I need to then of course I can.
Any thoughts and direction will of course be most welcomed.
Thanks 🙂mogy

okay the time has come to accept defeat 🙁
With the help of a friend we replaced the relay on the board but still no progress. If anyone needs any parts from my old machine then let me know.Unless anyone has any last ideas to try that cost very little 🙂
The following thread was very interesting http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ic&t=16741

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool ADG 7550 will not close
hello, I don’t think I’m, going to have the answer for you but I can let you know that at the top of my whirlpool DW I have a grey tab that sticks out for the latch to latch to.
I am in the process of dismantling mine to sell the working parts as I have a problem with getting hot water so I can take a look at how it works to see if I can help you at all. I’ll have to get home to look, I’ll see if I can do this tonight.
Can I make sure I understand what you are describing.
You close the door fully and it closes fine, the cycle then seems to start but the door pops open thus causing the cycle to stop, is this correct?
cheers

Okay so it failed as expected.
Anyone have any thoughts about the tests I can do to check the components out?
Could I possible have installed a faulty NTC? I made sure I handled it carefully as mentioned in the posts.
Could it be that the NTC is faulty so not reporting the temperature correctly?
Is three flashing lights definitely the water heater or could it be reporting that the water is not at the right temperature?
Should I measure the resistance across the NTC to see if it is working? Thanks

Just when you thought I’d given up…. 🙂
I’ve just taken the dishwasher out and measured the resistance across the heating element to see if it was broken. The following thread has a post from Penguin45 about the normal value of the heater resistance. He suggests about 25 ohms and that is about what I have so it would seem that the heater is okay. what can I try next?
I’ve tried cleaning the filters but can only find the black one at 3 o’clock.
running a test cycle now but expect it to fail 🙁
Thanks as always for any thoughts you might have.cheers

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool ADG 332 S WH Dishwasher Light Flashes 6 times.
Let me start by explaining that I am no engineer. I only have information gained from this forum. I recently posted a question about a whirlpool DW (different model but Whirlpool) Mine was flashes 3 times as you now describe. I was told that it was the heating system for mine and to check all the connections in case I dislodged one when replacing the NTC. If you get no other responses then I guess you could try the same. I’ve not been able to check mine yet.
Maybe someone else reading could at least say if the codes are standard amongst the same brands.
Sorry to not be able to help more.mogy

Hello,
Does anyone out there have any more information for me about this issue? It seems like I’ve hit a dead end. I would love to know more about the heating system so that I can make a more informed decision about where I can fix this or whether I need to either
(a) go to a specialist or
(b) buy a new one.any help would be most appreciated.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Integrated dishwasher ADG7540 beeping
spimps thanks for the diagnosis. I’ll take the dishwasher out again tonight to take a look. I guess I just need to check they are all connected around the heater (in the digram above) I really hope this is it. I guess the problem is that I replaced the NTC not knowing about the flashing codes. There is a possibility that this was the original problem, I guess I have no way of knowing apart from connecting the old one up again, although I think that’s now in the bin.
If it does prove to be all connected fine then do I then need to prepare for the worst? 🙁 any thoughts on cost and work required.
thanks for everyone’s help. Really appreciated.mogy

Hello Longy I really appreciate your response.
I have just done as you suggested this morning and the start button is flashing in blocks of 3
Might you be able to help with letting me know what this code means?
If you do know what it is could you let me know if you think a non engineer like myself can perform the work? I’m keen to as money is tight 🙂
Thanks againmogy
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Integrated dishwasher ADG7540 beeping
Thanks for the response. It turns out the connector in the bag was wrong but cutting and connecting via a block worked fine. Although saying that the dishwasher is still broken.
I placed it on a 50 degree wash and thought all was good until 1 hour in and the machine started beeping the same continuous pattern as before.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
I can’t afford too many more parts as a new machine is not too much more 🙁
here’s hoping I’ve done something stupid that has a quick cheap fix.mogy
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Integrated dishwasher ADG7540 beeping
I have looked at this some more, it seems that the spare connector that I was sent to adapt to the new NTC is the wrong type and does not actually fit into the NTC that I’ve been sent. This seems pretty poor. I’ve emailed the customer support so I hope I’ll get something back from them soon.
The problem is that I’m still without a dishwasher and I don’t have a course of action at the moment. The one thing that comes to mind is that the package contains another connector that is wired up so I can’t use it as it is but if I cut it and the wires going to the currently installed NTC then I could maybe use a block to connect the two wires. I presume the current is very low and so I could do this quite safely.
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
If you don’t help me then I’m stuck 🙁 and £35 poorer and sill looking for help 🙁mogy
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Integrated dishwasher ADG7540 beeping
okay, so the spare part arrived and looks similar. However the one I’m taking off has blade connectors and the new one doesn’t. The instructions talk about cutting the cables and using a tool to use the connector that came with it, but I wouldn’t expect to have to do that.
The instructions show that we have an NTC Faston, the item I have in the packaging seems to be an NTC Rast 2.5
Do I need to just request a different model? If so I wonder how soon that can arrive as the dishwasher is out and on the floor 🙁
If Anyone has any great tips to allow me to fit this tonight that would be much appreciated.mogy
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Integrated dishwasher ADG7540 beeping
WOW, that is quite a picture. Thanks so much. I now just have to get up the courage to take the dishwasher out.
Can I just check this with you (I apologise in advance as for most of you this will be an everyday thing for you) I need to take the dish washer out from the units, turn it over and remove the bottom? I presume this is what I can see in the picture, the underside of the dishwasher. I’m about to take another look at it but the more understanding I can get the better.I’ll be placing the order now as I feel I have to give this a try.
Thanks for all the help so far.
