Re: Electrolux EOU63102X Causing RCD Trip

Thanks for the replay Dave. I take it an issue with the selector switches is unusal then!

Hmm there is something odd though. The old element measures similarly as the new element in terms of element resistance, and it has no visible faults in the insulation. I suppose I can’t do a proper insulation test so it could be it does have a fault that is revealed at operating voltages.

Anyway, I have re-tested the oven by setting the thermostat up full then going through each of the selector switch settings, it now, from cold at least, does not trip at all, and the grill is definitely working. So I suppose I am all fixed, but I can’t help feeling that perhaps last time I tested it the oven was warm, I will try testing at temperature and see what I find. Is it possible that when heated up and expanded something is shorting that is fine when cold?!!?

Understood Bob, and I agree if it is the compressor itself then this is not a repair I can do, but is it possible that it is the start/run capacitor that I can see hanging off the compressor?

    Re: Hotpoint TDC62 no heat

Replaced the thermostat with the green spot and … 😀 heat! I hope that is the last of the problems for a bit … I have had to replace the bearings (front pads and seal, rear spindle, bearing and seal), a relay on the control PCB and the one time thermostat in the last month … hope I am done for a bit 😉

    Re: Hotpoint TDC62

It is not at all unknown for relays to stick rather than weld contacts and for them to become unstuck over time and/or after a calibrated tap etc. I would expect the fault to reappear at some point … as it happens when I took my relay out to test it originally it was stuck, I put it back while I awaited the replacement, when I swap the new relay in I compared coil resistance and contact resistance with the old one (‘cos I am like that) and, what the, the old stuck relay had become unstuck. Seems yours has done the same. I put the new relay in regardless …

    Re: Hotpoint TDC62 no heat

Thanks iadom. I have continuity tested the two thermostats and the one with the green dot is open circuit and so dead! The other thermostat provides continuity with a very low resistance, and the heater elements have c. 40 Ohms resistance so they all look good. I will order up a thermostat set and see how she goes …

So for me at least, the saga continues, I have replaced the relay and now the drying LED behaves as expected but now no heat … I will start a separate post rather than hi-jack this one!

    Re: Hotpoint TDC62

What are the chances? My TDC62 has just started to have the drying led on all the time and is heating even on the airing setting. Thanks to the above post i have checked the relay and it is short circuit as predicted. CPC do an exact replacement for £2 so it is in the post … Great work people!

Re: Hotpoint WMA44 at the end of it’s life?

Just to close out the thread:

On the second visit the Hotpoint engineer took one look and said that the drum had thrashed itself to death and need to be replaced, he did not have a spare and a spare would take some time to get. A few days later and we still had no date for when a spare would be obtained.

At this point my wife blew a fuse, several weeks without a machine and an unknown wait to have a third attempt at repairing the machine with no promise that it would be OK after that. I settled the bill with Hotpoint and bought a new Miele, delivered within a few days, and had the broken Hotpoint taken away. Sadly I had wasted £50 on a machine that it could be argued was economically repairable, but only if you were prepared to spend weeks waiting for it to happen.

All in all a throughly dissapointing experience and not one I would want to repeat.

Re: Hotpoint WMA44 at the end of it’s life?

Hi Andy, I assume that you are the Andy Rickard I was trying unsucessfully to contact. I am sorry I was unable to reach you and glad to see you are still around. As I am sure anybody reading the above posts will see, I did no bickering and made no silly claims, I am saddened to see you feel that way. I take it from your reply that you are still working and that you refute any suggestion that you do not respond to answer phone messages / emails, so I assume I had your contact details wrong. Can I suggest you ensure you contact details on this site are correct so that others do not suffer the same problems I had?

The Hotpoint chap replaced the bearings and the motor. Presumably the motor was water damaged and that was the reason that the machine would not continue through a cycle. It now washes, is quiet, but leaks 🙁 and a second visit is booked in to resolve that little issue …

Also slightly miffed to find Hotpoint engineers are neither interested nor legally obliged to take with them the e.g. broken motor. It would seem I will have to make a trip to the local WEEE recycler. Ah, all part of the joy of trying to do the right thing rather than send a machine to the tip.

Re: Hotpoint WMA44 at the end of it’s life?

Sorry Bryan, I appreciate your help in suggesting an engineer in the area, I assumed the one you suggested and the one listed on this site were one and the same as the share a name and a location in North Devon where engineers seem to be like hens teeth. If it helps, neither engineer answers calls because I call both the number you kindly provided and the one listed by this site. Please don’t get upset with me, I am just a punter that has spent a large part of my week trying to raise a local engineer and failing because he does not answer calls, return answer phone messages or respond by emails.

Re: Hotpoint WMA44 at the end of it’s life?

Thanks iadom, to be more precise:

You need to select User Control Panel from the User Menu on the right of these posts, then select the Board Preferences tab then, I would suggest, ensure that the Summer Time/DST is in effect is set to No then select UTC which is the same thing as GMT. I appreciate that UTC -1 may well work if you also set DST to yes but that is two wrongs that make a right no? What happens when the clocks “spring forward” or “fall back”? Do I have to mess with the settings gain?!!!

Anyway, all this talk about the weirdness of time on your forums (why default to the opposite side of the world on a UK (the clue is in the title!) White Good web site?) is a distraction from the fact that you seem to list a service engineer that is either no longer working or you have the wrong contact details or he does not return calls 🙁
