Well, bizarrely, woke up this morning to find ice, don’t understand, all I did was perform the optics check, remove everything to check connections and check for a frozen pipe and hey presto!

Well mine has been working perfectly for well over a year now, except that the ice maker has just given up. I periodically dump all the ice, (did this last night) but there is no ice today. I found a website that gives you info on how to test the ice maker (http://applianceguru.com/), basically it says that if the infrared transmitter flashes twice, when the pathway is clear, (calling for ice) then the optics are at fault, (It should change to continuous to call for ice).
So the question is, should I replace both the infraed boards, (how much are they) or call ot an engineer.
Any suggestions?paolo

Mangaed to bodge it with some wire.
The new seal has turned up today, I assume I just loosen the screws on the front plate and ease it in.paolo

On mine, you need to hold the OK button for about 5 seconds to reset it.

Should I just spray the area, or lift the door up off its hinge?

Ok, new boards in, thanks Dave, so fingers crossed.
Just one thing, the infra red receiver is flashing, so I assume that it’s ok, but the transmitter has no light on, even when the door light switch is closed, is this because the freezer needs to get to temperature? If not, how much is one of these?paolo

In fact on a similar note, are service manuals available for these models?

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool American style F/Freezer
“its possibly the main rear pcb as this will stop the infra reds working”
Guess that answers my question then.

Tim, did you get this fixed? My icemaker infra red is not working, but is that to do with faulty control boards?

Ok, so replaced the relay, no change. There are stickers on the boards that give the manufactures name, ITW Ispracontrols. Anybody know how to contact them direct? failing that where is the cheapest source to obtain replacement boards.
Incidentally what ius the long term prognosis if I decide to live with the clicking?Cheers
