Thanks for the fast reply Penguin45, I will order a couple straight away, are they straightforward to fit?
Thanks Again.

Thanks for all your valued help and advice.
Fitted the new parts, and put it back together today. Its like a new machine, it is so quiet now, you can hold a conversation whilst standing next to it! Did a “service wash” to get rid of all the crud I disturbed, and now the wife is catching up (trying to kill it again!) with the washing. Thanks Again for all your help and advice.

What I call the sleave, is the alloy bit in the tub that the outer races of the bearings sit in. I don’t know it’s proper name!
Hopfully new parts will turn up tomorrow, so I can get the thing working again. Thanks

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WMA63s
Thanks for the advice guys. Stripped it down this afternoon, as it sounded terrible on a wash this morning! It came apart ok, found the rear bearing ok, but the front one had totally collapsed – it was just running on the inner and outer races – some of the balls were actually gound in half!. Got the old races off and cleaned up the sleave and shaft – no damage to these at all, the old races bore the brunt of it – how lucky am I? (wish I had bought a lottery ticket)
I have ordered a new bearing set and a tub seal from the shop on here.
I have also given it a thorough clean in readyness for the new parts.
Should do another 7 years now!
(will also replace the rear bearing as well)
Thanks Again.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will have a go at repairing it. As the machine is still in use, I would rather get all the parts before I take it apart. As the bearing is well knackered (when you spin it by hand, when it slows down, the drum will “drop” on the shaft / bearing) do you think it is worth getting a spider and replacing it as a matter of course, to save downtime on the machine?
Thanks Again

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint ultima extra WMA63 not doing final spin.
Hi Jim
I have just tried the spin only cycle and it worked fine ! (TBH might not have set it properly first time) . I have had a good look at suspension and it seems ok , certainly not broken . Do the suspension / dampers / springs get weak after a time , if they do can you get spares , and is it worth replacing them ?
Many thanks for your help (and patience) with this.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint ultima extra WMA63 not doing final spin.
Hi there
have just tried the machine empty , it would not do just a final spin on its own , but when I set it to ‘rinse and spin’ (30 min cycle) it ran through the cycle and did a final spin at the end . It was also very quiet during the cycle and did not knock or bang. It looks like you are right on the out of balance control . How do I cure this , or prevent it from happening again ? We have had the machine for about 6 years , and this has never happened before , and we have never taken particular care in loading the machine , just tend to bung it in !
Thanks again

Jim
I have not tried the machine empty , I will try it tomorrow . the drum spins quietly by hand and is quiet during normal wash cycle , however if you push the drum towards the back of the machine it will hit the rear case of the machine with a bang ! (you don’t have to push it hard either) . If you push the drum so it hits the rear caseing , then release it it will bounce forwards and backwards for several seconds (like a car with a knakered shock absorber – if that makes sense). I will post the results of the empty spin tomorrow.
Thanks for your help so far.

Thanks for the reply Jim , but it only had 2 of the wifes best tea towels in it (used for mopping up after cleaning out pump) . It has allways been a noisey machine – it makes a hell of a bang / jump when it starts to spin. As I said before it spins ok during the normal wash cycle ( all be it noisely) , but it just makes no effort to do the final spin . I would like to repair it , because it matches the fridge freezer and dish washer ( zircon silver) , and if I have to replace it , the new one would not match the other appliences , which the wife has already mentioned ! I could have to end up replacing all 3 , which I certainly don’t want to do.
Thanks again
