ParticipantThanks for the replies.
I had a repairman over yesterday and he had to strip the machine to remove the hose from the pump like you said, Dave.
There was quite a collection of fluff, as well as a £2 coin that was perfectly blocking the diameter of the hose… so with that removed the machine is now perfectly working!rainbowlights
ParticipantThanks for the reply.
How do I actually check the filter? Apologies for the ignorance… I tried opening the white thingy at the bottom but it was surprisingly stubborn and wouldn’t budge…rainbowlights
ParticipantThanks for the responses. Apologies for not responding sooner!
The reason I gave those machines listed is because those are the options D & G gave me as replacements. (Initially they offered me Hotpoint or Indesit replacements but I told them I didn’t pay my D&G insurance all these years to get a Hotpoint replacement. Eventually they agreed and offered me the above mentioned Miele models.
In the end I chose the Miele WWD320 which retails at over £1000. Before choosing this machine, I emailed Miele about their dismal 2 year warranties, which don’t inspire confidence. This is the response I got:Thank you for taking the time contacting us! I am more than happy to assist you today!
We are glad to hear that you intend to purchase a Miele appliance and we assure you that will enjoy it greatly!
The standard 2 year warranty is set by the UK consumer law and since Miele is not financially regulated to sell extended warranties, that is the maximum that we can provide at the moment.
However, if you wish to purchase an extended warranty, you can go with a third party insurance a bit before our standard 2 year warranty expires.
We always recommend Domestic and General as our partners. Here is their phone number: 03330009799
Feel free to contact them for any extra information.
At your disposal for any other clarification needed.

In any event, I am pleased with the new machine although it definitely has a plasticky feel, and the wash quality is not what it was before- my kids used to give me their kids stained clothing for stain removal, and my old Miele got rid of every last stain. The new machine is not as good- stains need more “help” to get rid of- in terms of vanish or something else, but otherwise I am happy with the machine, it washes well and is quiet and reliable. Now all that remains to be seen is how long it will last!
As an aside, I was in John Lewis again last week, and out of curiosity, asked a sales rep about the Miele machines- if they recommend them at all. She told me “off the record” that she can no longer recommend them in good faith, because they are no longer produced in Germany, and have the same plastic parts as many other cheaper brands- so in her opinion, they are hugely overpriced and not worth it…

ParticipantThank you Don.
I was in John Lewis last week and the partner there told me to steer clear of the Miele machines made in Poland as they just aren’t as good as the German made ones. He showed me two- the cheaper end of the Miele range. But if you’re saying that even the ones labelled “Made in Germany” might not be made in Germany…
This is all very confusing.

ParticipantI don’t believe for a minute they are as good as they used to be- my Mum’s Miele is 17 years old and going strong, my aunt’s just broke on its 25th anniversary but was repaired for £50 and happily working again. Their 2 year warranties don’t inspire much confidence, but I don’t think anything else is better! What would you recommend other than a miele?

ParticipantMachine was repaired on Friday. It was taken apart piece by piece, and had the drum, door seal, heat exchange, pulley and the bit that pushes soap from the drawer to the drum replaced. It was a right big job, and I don’t see how it could possibly have been cost-effective for D & G to do all that, but apparently according to the new “right to repair” legislation they need to attempt repair before writing anything off.
Thankfully my machine is now working fully but I was appalled at the build quality of the machine. I am in no way a professional- I’m just an office worker but I was shocked to see flimsy metal and rusting in some places. I am going to replace this machine very soon with a Miele- at least my machine is working so i can take my time choosing and perhaps wait for a good promotion.
Thanks so much for all your help and advice.

ParticipantThanks so much for the response don I’m glad to hear you would still recommend a Miele
kwatt thanks for sharing that article, gosh that is scandalous! I need to decide what to do but I think I am definitely still tempted to go with a Miele.

ParticipantSorry I wasn’t so specific. I called D & G because the machine was making a racket, and mentioned it’s twisting clothes out of shape. An engineer came a couple of weeks ago and said the bearings went, and two other parts need replacing as well- which I mentioned above, but I have no idea what those parts are, I’m assuming something to do with the twisting that’s happening.
I am still waiting to hear from D & G and in the meantime I put in a load with a prayer on my lips and fingers crossed that my stuff doesn’t get trapped in there…

Thanks so much for replying again. I had an engineer out last week and said the bearings have gone, as well as another two parts that needed replacing- I’m not sure what. I should be hearing from D &G tomorrow- I am pretty sure they will write off the machine but hey ho, you never know…
thanks so much for all your responses, they are hugely appreciated and so informative!rainbowlights
ParticipantHi Andy.
Thanks so much for your response. If it were a door seal gap is it something I can see myself? I have D&G insurance, is there any point calling them? I don’t want any more clothes getting ruined!!

ParticipantReopened the hinge, took it off and put it back, didn’t make a difference so this can’t be the problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance. Your advice is greatly appreciated!rainbowlights
ParticipantI have followed the instructions to the letter and its really simple so I can’t imagine it would be that but I will check again
