Hi gregatron if the drum feels smooth but there is a clicking noise that may sound like its coming from the motor and there is a burning smell then i would say its time for a new motor very easy diy job and you can get the part from the spare parts side on this site but just to check you need to remove the drive belt at the rear and spin the motor by hand then you should hear the same clicking noise if so its the motor also when you have the belt off just spin the drum and make sure its smooth and silient as if not your drum bearings may have also gone and this is not a diy job also very worth while removing the motor and checking that the brushes are ok but it sounds like a raised segment on the armeture of the motor remember plug out first!

Hi gregatron firstly can you tell if its a motor or drum bearing noise? if you put your hand on the inside of the drum and gently move the drum back and fourth it should feel smooth if on it could be the bearings if you cant tell if its coming from the bearings or motor then you can try removing the drive belt and then revolving the drum if all smooth and quiet then get hold of the motor shaft and spin that as it could be a raised or damaged armiture(where the brushes touch) please make sure that the plug is removed from the power supply before you remove any panels/lid

Hi Joe with the top off and the mains supply disconected, put your hands on the top of the tub and gentle push it down either side first then both together to see if it is smooth going up and down the same as you would do to test the shocks on your car, this should tell you if the susspension legs/springs are ok or not and it will also let you know if the tub is fouling on anything other than this ???

Hi there have you checked that the appliance hasnt got the transit brackets in? as this would create the problem described.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Washer/dryer BWD12
Hi Trixie it sounds like the machine has a heating problem you really need to contact an engineer to have this checked out as it will wash forever if this is the case, you can find a local engineer on this site.

Hi are you sure that the drum is filing right up and then out of the draw or could it be possible that its just pouring out of the draw and not even making it to the drum? as i have had socks get stuck between the drum and outer tub that work there way up to the hose between the tub and despenser draw?
