ParticipantThanks for your reply Tubafan. Maybe I will try and put a greater angle on the cups and mugs somehow, so that water drains off the tops more readily.

ParticipantThanks Dave. Will do…

ParticipantDave, thanks again for replying. Hopefully I’ll be able to check continuity of the coil that operates the valve with an ohmmeter.
Cheers

ParticipantThanks for the link.
Does the resin regeneration unit require replacement from time to time?
Would I be able to easily determine if valve D (on the schematic) is actually opening? Thanks.

ParticipantThanks for replying…
Doesn’t appear to use much salt, although I’m not sure how quickly it would be expected to go down! Didn’t need topping up since the last time I used it.
No, surfaces on all crockery are good and smooth. The ‘roughness’ comes off after a good hand wash.
Not sure how I tell if it’s limescale?
Any idea how difficult a tear down of this dishwasher might be?
How does the salt dispensing mechanism work? Thanks.

Dave, thanks. I’ll try the cup of water test, but pretty sure you’re right!

ParticipantRe: Temperature varies too much.
Engineer called, and changed the pcb behind the control panel at the top of the fridge. I questioned him about the fridge fan. He attempted to open/remove the enclosure housing the fan, but failed to do so. But he said you could feel it running by touching the Dynamicair enclosure. Sure enough, I felt a small vibration which one might expect from an electric motor, but I told him I could feel no passage of air, and that perhaps the motor was either stalled or the impellor was loose on the motor shaft. He made no comment.
After giving the fridge 48 hours to settle down after the board change, the only difference I could detect was that the temperature in the bottom trays now only went down to only -2C !
As a test, I positioned an 80mm 12v computer fan horizontally under the Dynamicair enclosure so that it was gently blowing air downwards. Within 15 minutes, top and bottom temperatures had narrowed to within about 5 degrees.
Complained at length to Currys and AEG, and eventually got hold of a helpful person who agreed that the whole fridge/freezer should be replaced for a new one. I’m hoping the new one will solve this issue…

ParticipantRe: Temperature varies too much.
I did manage to find a supplier who had a spare parts diagram which appears to show the two motors, and I certainly can’t seem to make the fridge fan revolve.
Thank you again for all your help.

Bob, you mentioned that you viewed a picture of this model of AEG fridge/freezer and determined it had separate fans. I’m taking it this is in some kind of workshop manual or similar. Is this something I can freely download, or is it purely available only to engineers in the trade?

Selected Coolmatic, clicked on OK, applied the magnet and waited. And waited, and waited… Nothing. Could hear the freezer fan running, but no sound and airflow detectable from the fridge at all. I take it the Dynamicair box at the top of the fridge is where I’d expect fan noise to emanate from, and also be able to feel airflow?

Many thanks for replies folks.
Fridge is free standing, so no wooden framework, etc., to foul the doors. I have checked the fit of the doors, and they both seem ok.
Ok, with freezer fan definitely running, magnet in place so the light is out, I hear no fan and feel no air movement inside the fridge.
Am I right in assuming fan/air movement emanates from the top by the Dynamicair device?
Would I expect the fridge fan be running the whole time the freezer fan is pumping air?

Thank you Bob. This is fairly new fridge – we’re talking about less than a month old. Two engineers have been out to it, and are stumped. I’m due a third visit next week.
I suppose it’s possible for it to get frosted up in that time, but it doesn’t get huge usage as the kids don’t live here anymore!
The fan is evident in the freezer compartment; I can feel it blowing cold air. But I don’t feel any air movement in the fridge. Would the fridge have a separate fan?
