Re: Should of got a deposit.

We used to get a lot of the Free Estimate Boys working our area, over the years they have come and gone. Free appeals to a certain sector of the market, those who want you to use your time and expertise and materials and assets to LOOK at their broken appliance. We have let them get on with it for the best part of 40 years and have always charged a diagnostic fee refundable off the repair costs and for a small charge the customer has out time and honest opinion. With fuel, Insurance, premises costs where applicable, at an all time high if someone wants to spend their day driving round for nothing let them get on with it I say. Our main competition these days are not the local guys but the likes of BG, 0800, Repair Care etc and they do not come out for nothing. I appreciate however that in certain rural areas it could be a problem operating with fees as described but then again you have to take that into account when setting up a business in a location as this.

No my comments were not regarding the fact that the WTA were quoted but more to do with the thread of the article suggesting that people buy new so called green appliances, therefore it was this that was relevent in line with the thrust of the article.
As for standing it would be hard for any of us to make anymore of a mess up than the poor excuse for a government leading this country currently. Mind you all the while the general population are glued to there TVs worrying about social benefit changes we would do better to see beyond this diversionary distraction.

In essence more lunatic rambling from our public schoolboy politicians, having decimated UK manufacturing Industry now they are advocating millions of people go out and buy white goods all manufactured everywhere but here. More WEEE to be disposed off and if the government gets its way they would succeed in damaging yet another trade both supply chain and service operations and deprive HMRC of tax and VAT.

    Very helpful

All the while its only shifting the pitch about, the goalposts are still in the same place. Everybody’s just too busy watching the goalposts to notice the pitch has altered.

That I like, well said, The job of the politician is a easy one, why do you think they ever go into politics, they are akin to comedians in the entertainment field, its money for old rope and of course you have to do very little and spend your time blaming what the other side done. Its a win win situation for them, arguing, laying blame, spouting lies, for you know it fours years has past

I would’nt trust any of them

    Re: Power Station Closures

I hear what you say Ken and understand the logic, however it is difficult to imagine that Not even the farmer boy would not see that by allowing essential services vital to the nations wellbeing to be sold off to a bunch of frogs would ever be in the interests of the country. Taking Party politics out of the equation but looking at politicians across all parties they have made so many bad choices whereby the Taxpayers have to suffer the fallout and foot the costs.

And the dammed if I do and dammed if I dont theory is of course right, the media is just a circus which I never much follow as just the like the politicians they are give to distortion and spin. They have sold of the Gold, squandered the oil reserves in Scotland, Filled the country up with moneysucking immigrants who they call migrants ! and then try and brainwash us that this is all good for us.

Yeah Right ! meanwhile back in real town you do not have to look far to see how the cutbacks now been wielded are effecting the many, how greedy energy companies are rubbing their hands, and the cheating banks what of them ?
They have committed crimes, cost this countries Taxpayers billions, and not one of them has been held truly accountable.

There’s a lot at play here bigger than we know or can grasp.

    Re: Power Station Closures

In simple terms the numerous UK Governments have sold us down the river at the same stroke compromising our energy securities. Since when have we seen eye to eye with the French on anything ?

I get sick of hearing about half baked ideas from mindless politicians who tell us all they know best, we can see from whatever they have a hand in, HMRC, NHS, Border Control, Public Health, they cock it it up.

    Re: Power Station Closures

The minute you allow Energy to be supplied and dictated from outside a countries border your on a slippery slope. It seems to me that as far as EU legislation is concerned we have the wrong end of the balance. WEE Directive, Green Taxes, Wrong Shaped Fruit, You name it and us Brits are forced to follow the half baked rules were the rest of Europe seem to carry on regardless.

Imagine a Power Shortage, Imagine all power coming from Europe as much of it does. In the event of a serious crisis who do you think would get the energy ?

Its about time we started looking after our own interests instead of letting faceless european politicians run us. If that means prolonging the life of coal fired stations so what ! This country is no longer a major polluter you need to look to the USA, India and China for those accolades.

Re: how much does the uk motorist generate in tax ?

I heard that on Road Fund alone the UK Government raise 9 Bilion PA, not sure it thats true but if it is we should have the best roads anywhere in the world, and still have money left to subsidise UK businesses with Fuel Discounts which would make the UK transport reliant businesses more competitive.

As it is successive Governments use this chest of money to subsidise Benefits paid to people who should not even be here, they have the knack of creating social problems and then use the tool of Tax Revenue to take money form hard working people to try and offset the numbers, I bet if you could ever get the the real figures of what is raised and what is paid out in areas such a housing benefits, Tax Credits, Social Fund Payments, Handouts, Border Security, and the list goes on and on, that none of the figures would create a balance sheet which stacks up, more like a case of revolving credit where all this money is paid in, spent, and more borrowed,

Thats why I do not worry about it as there is nothing we can do, I say look after yourself’s in the best way you can and forget the wider implications of even thinking about what the mindless politicians are doing!

As an aside to the main discussion, for those of you who have all three licences T11. S4 and WCL, what records are required and in what detail by the EA ?

    Re: Waste Carriers Licence

One point that George mentioned and Ian clarified was this:

As George states if the customer donates the item fully in knowledge that it will be refurbished and resold then its not WEEE

Does this mean that if as long as the customer is aware the item could go on at some point to be resold or refurbished ( perhaps even by somebody else ) then the item is never wee or waste ? if thats the case and you then offer that appliance for sale having been refurbished and it was never classed as WEE would that negate the problem of having a T11 ?
