More like the latter I reckon, drying like washing is a science

Keith, yes I have considered that a few times but have you seen my ads or are you just guessing here ?

Re: Engineers who want no work

Well its a bit comforting to know that you guys have had the same type of experiences, I was begining to think this was a local type problem but that its not. Frankly I am often amazed at how some people run their busineses, its often a struggle to do it right all the time and then you get these people who seem so hairy fairy. No wonder our trade gets devalued along with our professional attitude and service.

Perhaps if something like Part P or Corgi was implemented for our skillbase it would weed out a lot of these people and leave us to get on with it.

    Re: dvd help

Load the DVD, next right click on the Drive letter for your DVD drive and select explore.

You will see that Adobe Reader 5 is present , open the folder and install Adobe Reader 5. You should be aware that the TDS program has issues with various versions of Adobe Reader and will not work with those issues.
Therefore it is best to uninstall any previous versions of Adobe Reader first. For the record I have found that Adobe Reader Version 5, 7, and Adobe Professional which is what I use all work fine.

Once that is installed go to start, select run/and then browse. Now look for the TDS install folder and the SETUP.EXE, click on this and then its alway. Good luck

    Re: Connections DVD

This they are, however I am reliably informed that a NEW DVD of Connections is due for release in about six weeks time !

We have laptops in the field so we can access all information whislt doing the jobs as opposed to having to return to base for such matters. Mobile wi-fi is too expensive at the moment to consider using it for a fast connection live to the Connect site or our own servers, so connect should consider the field staff and companies who operate this way.

we will have to await developments

Thanks, but do you have a telephone number for MFI as we don’t deal with them.

    Many Thanks

Re: Help ! Homark / Servis/ Whirlpool Washpump Whereabouts ?

The model number is Servis SE4400, this appliance appears to have been manufactured and badged for various makers.

The whirlpool part number is 481936018162 but is special order, so I am trying to locate someone that has one.

Re: Help ! Homark / Servis/ Whirlpool Washpump Whereabouts ?

    Hi Dave,

    I already knew this but the ADG 945 was the first one of these that I ever saw and worked on years back when I worked at Philips/Whirlpool. Sios no longer has details of these models, I will look this morning and post the model number of that Servis model;

This dishwasher is the small under the counter type with the lift up lid, waterresistant on/off switch and is fitted with runners that allow it to slide in and out of the cuboard.

    Re: Customer Care

IMHO I think that the majority of customers do care about the attention they get when in a store considering parting with their hard earned cash. If a customer gets the right sort of attention, product knowledge, and decent friendly informed opinion they will be much more prepared to spend their money with you.

These days many stores seem to fall into two different camps, the first where you can wander around the store without anyone approaching you, the second where the eager sales staff pounce on you as you walk through the door. A salesperson has to be able to read a customer correctly and have a complete comand of the products which they sell in order to maximise the sales they make. To often wrong and misleading information is given to customers and not all customers are idiots !

Yes people do buy on price, others buy on service and price,as far as information on display on products in these stores that is mainly superfical information and a customer eventually requires the assistance of a trained salesperson.

There are many high street names these days that I avoid due to the young wippersnapper cocky pressurerised no knowledge bull**** people they seem to employ. As a customer I have the right to spend my hard earned cash wherever I like and I have often paid more for something due to the service that I have received. That is worth more to me than something piled high and sold a bit cheaper.

The people who train sales staff these days seem to have a model on which they work, using methods derived from who knows where, the trouble is we are all different and what suits one will not suit another, these people seem to battle away with their brainwashed plans without regard for what the customer may really want.

    just my two cents worth.

Re: THE THINGS CUSTOMERS SAY ?

We often get customers ring in and say ” is it ready yet ? ”
is what ready we say, my vacuum cleaner of course ! , well if you give me a clue who you are I would have a much better chance of advising you.

It ceases to amaze me that they think we only have 1 customer and that we would know straightaway who they are !

or another, I ordered a part last week have you got it !

what about the customers who come in and want a part which is not a regular item. After much searching you manage to find this part which is 80p ! Other customers in shop, telephones ringing and you have had to break off from a repair in progress in the workshop. Having located this item you place it on the counter and tell them the price.

How much ! Oh I will have to go and get some more money and come back ! ugh, contorted face, holding back the insult that should rightly come, getting a grip of yourself you ask that other customer who has been waiting , Can I help you Madam.

Re: Why “pull the plug” ?

If it’s unplugged it cannot bite you thats my modus operandi, however it is real easy to get sidetracked with testing and holding a conversation with a inquizative customer and mistakes can an do happen to all of us from time to time. Personally I use a voltstick to test any appliance where the termination of the plug cannot been SEEN as DISCONECTED before I go diving in. Sometimes live testing is required and concentration is required and I have asked many a customer to not hold a conversation with me when I am working as it does not take very long to expose yourself to shock risks which are associated with our profession.

On busy days when we are rushing about thinking about that last job or the next one, the traffic, the time, remebering personal items etc’ et’c it is easy to make such a mistake and as we all know that mistake could be fatal.

Be Careful out there âž¡ :eeek:

    Re: tool boxes

I have used various toolboxes over the years and the best one I found which I have now is a CK softbag. You can get everything you need in this bag for routine repairs, i.e 89{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all jobs. The heavy stuff which starts to way down any type of tool case or box such as hammers, socket extension bars and the like I have in a seperate box inside my vehicle.

Therefore you can travel much more lightly without having a hernia when you have stairs, blocks of flats, or a walk when parking is a issue.

E Bay is the place for these at around £40.00 . and it will not take a lump out of someones doorway or mark their worktop ! 😀
