Thanks. That’s an intersting point: the web sites only show the exterior, not the inside. What is so bad about the polynox?

There only appears to be one Logixx freestanding, full size, dishasher on the Bosch web site and I think three Exxcels. The exxcels seem to cost as much as the Logixx, and I am puzzled why this is. Shouldn’t the Logixx cost more if it is better? Or is it that they are the same inside and the Logixx is just prettier outside?

But if your determined to do it then there are two types of IWMS on that model depending on prodution so make sure you know the product code when ordering (Its on the rating plate) one IWMS is around £80 the other Around £120

What makes/models do you recommend as replacements? Will enquire about returrning motor. Had hoped that with motor and IWMS replaced, there would be nothing left to go wrong but suppose I should be thankful it has lasted 10 years, perhaps you are right about good money after bad and time to upgrade.

When it went wrong last time, only the motor had failed. I did not ignore your advice; I was grateful for your help in identifying the motor had failed. I am out of work at the moment and so spending £100 on a motor was cheaper than £400 on a new machine. Even if I have to buy an IWMS (I think UKWG sell them for £70), that is still cheaper than buying a new machine. In an ideal world I am sure a new machine would be the best option but I am not in an ideal world at the moment, I’m in a world where every penny counts 🙁

    I have uploaded some photos:

The bottom half of the IWMS:

Should I be concerned about the black deposits?

The motor, with sandy substance (what is it – corrosion?) on the front:

And finally a close-up of the spindle, showing a split. Is that of concern?

Re: Zanussi DE6965 error code AL7

Thanks for your fast reply. I guess I bought it about 2002, so it has lasted ten years. Is that good for a dishwasher these days?

Last time I had dishwasher problems and read this site, I remember IWMS getting a bad reputation, so it is good to know that the manufacturers have dropped them from newer designs.

I have stripped down the machine this morning. I managed to remove the motor and I was able to turn the yellow impellors by hand but it felt hard. I’ve never had another motor in my hands to compare. Should it really be that hard to turn?

I decided to take the impellor off to see what was behind it and I found some deposit – some sort of corrosion? – on the motor body. I will try to upload some photos so that you can have a look.

With everything removed I cannot turn the spindle. I don’t know whetehr this is normal. I would have expected it to rotate freely. I think you were right and water ingress has seized the bearings?

I also noticed a small split in the spindle, I don’t know whether that is significant?

Looking at the IWMS, it does have black deposits in the bottom again. When this happened years ago, I was told it might be rust from an iron water main, so I fitted a filter to catch any. Either the particles are too fine for the filter or it is not rust but mould. I don’t suppose there is anyway to stop that?

Motors online seem to be anything between 50-100GBP so it might be worth spending 50 now, rather than 500 on a new machine. From what I can see the IWMS is £100+ so I hope it will last a bit longer.

Re: Zanussi DE6965 error code AL7

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I have had problems with the IWMS a long time (years) ago. I read about them on this web site and the impression I got was that all manufacturers were using them. Was this a cost saving measure: it is cheaper to fit one IWMS than several separate components?

Like I said that was some time ago. Have things changed? Do manufcaturers no longer use IWMS? Or is it that they all have an IWMS but other makes are more robust/reliable?

I had a repairman sort out my IWMS problems twice. The first time it was clogged with a black deposit so he fitted a new IWMS. Some time later the machine failed again and it needed a modification kit fitted to the IWMS.

Does this mean that everything that can go wrong with the IWMS already has? If so, shall I replace the motor?

Is it fairly easy to access the motor? Any hints or tips you can share?

Surely a repair would be cheaper than a replacement? How much would parts and labour be roughly?

If it has to be replaced, what is the recommended model in this parts: a Bosch? Which one?

    Thanks,

Thanks. So the float cannot be repaired or reattached, I would need a new tank? I rpesume that’s a big job involving disassembling everything else to get to it? Perhaps like you say, I should just live with it?

Re: Whirlpool larder fridge ART647H warm

Hi, the fridge continued to cool to 6C, so I am now sure it is a thermostat fault. It seems I was wrong when I described the path of the capillary. I had another look and the mains cable comes along the trunking and the little white box, so that explains what that is. There is a small hole in the side of the fridge for the thermostat capillary to be pushed down and I have managed to push it without such a kink in it, which is an improvement, so hopefully it is just a matter of swapping it for a new one.

I refilled the salt and that cured the problem of streaks. I just don’t think the sensor is working. Could the float have fallen off? That would explain the UFO – unidentified floating object.

Re: Whirlpool larder fridge ART647H warm

    Hello again,

Please can anyone tell me the correct way to remove and replace the thermostat?

I pulled the thermostat knob off and unscrewed the nut around the shaft. Then I slid the light fitting towards the door, more by luck than judgement, and it came off. By the way, the fridge was unplugged whilst I was doing this! Did I do this right or was there a better way?

I thought if I removed the old stat that I might be able to get a model number off it. The thing is, I don’t think the probe was routed correctly. Where should it go?

There is something that looks like trunking running from the light to the back of the freezer, where it terminates in a small square box. Should the probe go down there? If not, what is it for?

The thermostat probe was threaded through a hole in the side of the fridge, the same one that the cable for the light and thermostat comes out of. This also means that there is a right angle bend in the capillary. It just doesn’t look right to me.

I know the thermostat was replaced under warranty many years ago. I just wonder whether the replacement was put it in the wrong place? How long should the capillary be? The one on this is at least two foot long.

I also connected the two thermostat terminals together and the fridge is quietly humming away and the temperature has dropped from 15C to 10C already, so if the temperature continues to fall, hopefully this shows that everything else is working ok and it is a thermostat fault.

Re: zanussi de6965 salt level indicator problem

Thanks. I don’t think it has a 3in1 button because it is an old dishwasher and besides, I’ve read here so I know to use proper salt 😉

The led has always worked until now but the salt recently ran out and the inside of the dishwasher and the cutlrey took on a stained (scale I presume?) appearance, prompting me to check the salt, which was empty. My other half thinks she saw something floating in there, making me think that whatever senses the salt has fallen off.

    Hi,

I have opened the door and read the label but I can’t find anything beginning 12NC. Please let me know what it is and where to find it and I will let you know.

I have just checked the max/min thermometer. Min 14.9C and max 16.1C I haven’t opened the door since this morning.

    Hi,

I have left a thermometer in the fridge overnight and the temperature is stable at 14 degrees Celcius.

It could cure problems,if it happens again in a few weeks you may have to look deeper into finding the cause.

Hello. I emptied the freezer and left it switched off with the door open for a couple of days. It is now back on and much, much quieter. Hopefully the noise was just the freezer labouring. It’s supposed to be a frost-free model, so I don’t know how it freezed up but to be fair, I suppose it was only iced at the back and a “frosty” freezer would have been a lot worse by now.
