Thanks again Martin, we successfully fitted all the retaining screws the other day.
I don’t know if you recall but you were kind enough to give me support and encouragement back in 2006 when I replaced the bearings on my previous WM. Thanks again.

Cool, just seen this, thanks Martin 🙂 I’ll press on as planned then.

The paddles slide into the slots ok without falling out. But they’re easy to slide back out again so wouldn’t last without the retaining screw. I’m wondering about fixing a waterproof screw in the space between the end of the paddle and the wall of the drum to hold them in place.
Other ideas I’ve had involve using Araldite to stick something there as well. Does Araldite hold up well in the washing machine 90c environment without degrading ?

Hmm, just realised that there’s an outer casing to the drum that holds all the water in. Wonder if there’s an access flap of some sort that would allow me to put the screws in without taking the whole drum out ?
It looks to me as though the paddles were not fixed properly in the first place before the drum was inserted into place. And we decided not to bother with a warranty this time too.
Sigh…

I bought these 18 months ago which came with a small retaining screw each.
Now, I admit to a bit of laziness in that I decided wrongly perhaps not to fit them. Instead to rely on the paddles sliding into place just like they were on the machine as it came from the factory. I.e. They came with no screws fitted either.
Unfortunately they still keep coming off so I’m going to bite the bullet and try and fit the retaining screws. Is this going to be relatively straightforward once I get the back off the machine ? Or can I even expect to do this from the bottom of the washer ?
Thanks for your help so far 🙂

Thank you Don
I’ll be honest though and say this wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear. I’d much rather recycle the old case & save money. The metal grilles are nice & clean tho.

Thanks K, I’ll get right onto ordering them.
Interestingly there is a setting on this machine for Sports Shoes 40degs. We will be following your advice from hereon though, thanks.

Thanks Odom, I appreciate your fast reply.
I’ve enjoyed great advice from this forum over several years, I’m going to order this from the shop today.
However, I’ll be honest and say that I really don’t get how some of the pieces work that are shown in the photo provided. So, fingers crossed it’ll do what I need it to do on my machine.

Just read Dave’s sticky about machines not spinning properly. 😳
We’re trying a proper normal load now and leaving the wet bath mat to drip dry for now.

🙂 well no wonder you’re a top poster and I’m a regular user…
I can see it clearly now. So when the drawer closes, it pushes the red clip bit against the outlet on the back for the water to be forced through.
Well, its good to know that there might be nowt broken after all.
Thank you very much for your help.

Tried normal load with no success. I’ve also changed the brushes as well as having the motor bench tested. The motor itself is fine as the following video without the belt indicates. Shortly after I took this video, the motor went into full throttle long spin with all the normal noises
etc..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5wHXYcb_ms
When I attach the belt to an empty drum, it spins beautifully. I can hear it going in the background now as I type..
The problem seems to be when I load the drum with the wet bath mat, the sluggish performance starts all the way through the spin cycle. The following video shows this..

When I turn the flywheel with the belt off the drum just keeps on turning freely so I don’t think there’s a problem with the bearings either.
I’m proper scratching my head here..

Luckily, I managed to catch the tenant in when I called by this afternoon.
The model number is SGV4313GB/13
Also, I’ve got the broken part and have found that the bright red pieces inside the arm are loose which I’m thinking means there is an absence of a spring to hold the clips in place. What do you think ?

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FLA 1201W lost its ooomph in the spin cycle
Hmm, on empty the spin ran at high speed seemingly ok, but with a wet bath mat in the drum its struggling again to get up to any speed.
Is the weight of the washload providing resistance to worn brushes that an empty drum wouldn’t ?

😳 Thanks Pen, I cleared the filter just now… as well as being 10 euro cents better off than I thought I was, it seems to have done the trick.
We’ll try a wash cycle to see for sure.
