ParticipantRe: Zanussi FLA 1201W – I’ve started….
Cotter pins are out and there’s the first sign of blood on the floor…
Nothing serious though, just caught myself on a electrical lug on the thermostat.

I was at the point of giving up when I finally worked out how to detach the door seal and that gave me motivation to continue.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll persevere with the lugs.
My target tonight is to get the whole drum out and then call it a day because I need an early night due to an early start tomorrow.

Hmm, its definitely slow going.
I’ve got it so that the drum is only attached by the top springs and bottom suspension.
The plastic cotter pins in the bottom suspension are being a pig to fetch out at the moment. Probably quite easy to pop in, but to take out is another matter.

Okay….
Motors’ off, tubes and stuff going into the side of the drum are off.
There’s an awful lot of bolts holding the front part of the drum to the back and they’re all pointed the other way. Nothing like the ‘back half of the drum that comes away’ as described in the manual.
I’m beginning to think thw whole drum has to come out before I can start anything like getting at the bearings.

Thanks Penguin
The model is an FLA 1201W if that helps.
Thanks again

Thanks,
Yup, there is movement as you described, so must be the bearings.
I couldn’t get any today, so will try tomorrow afternoon.
I read elsewhere about some ‘While you’re replacing this, you might as well replace this as well….’
Any suggestions on items that may fit this bill please ?
I’ve bought a Haynes manual which has given me a bit of an insight which will help I hope.

Well, I’ve got the back off now and this is what I can tell so far.
The new belt I fitted last December is still in good condition.
When I move the drum with my hand I can feel the grind, and this is still there even when I remove the belt, which for me rules out a belt or motor problem.
My instinct tells me that its a ‘bearing’ problem, much like when the bearings go on a car wheel. Are you able to help and advise at all please ?
There’s a shop near me where they sell parts, indeed, where I bought my belt last year. I’ll see if they’re open and ask them what they think.
Thanks

Thanks Martin
I’ve got the cover off. Tis easy when you know how.
The seemingly intact belt I fished out earlier seems to be about 4/5ths of its original width. The rest is wrapped around the pulley spindle.
Are these belts easy to get hold of on a Saturday ?
I live in Birmingham which is a tad few miles away from Berkshire.
I’m going to cut the shreds away and clean up the inside of the machine with a hoover.
