First van was a Ford ‘Thames’ column shift gears and only 3. Life was easier then?? no WP, only the manager telling you your figures are not high enough for that week. oh well time for the rejuvinating pills.

Refused NESN 20years ago Shower then nothing changes.
Never used Electrue. Never bought enough to justify an account by there standards, also had runnin with MD at a distant DASA AGM as he was saying one thing to DASA and different to the trade in general.

I would strongly advice you to have the 13amp outlet visable/accecable, and possibly be prepared to recieve some flack when the fuse blows on the use of both ovens or oven and grill at the same time.
Though Leisure say it can be on 13amp supply I would not recommend it.

Re: this is one for all service managers and dasa

The idea of registration has been mooted time and time again, but because we kill no one, only the DIYers kill themselves, this and any other Government will never legislate for this industry.

As for the electricians they undertake courses to qualify, and an apprentiship, also upgrades to become multi-skilled.

    WHAT do we need???

‘NOTHING’ to claim to be a ‘Domestic Appliance Engineer’
The Public and Manufacturers seem to accept this!!!

Perhaps this is why they pay us such crap rates

Because it is not compulsary to have the qualifications, fought for by EEITB and DASA with C&G, and not taken up by the industry. The colleges no longer offer them. So we have to rely on dilluted versions from the manufacturers, training their own staff on only their products.
The original aim being to train engineers to be competent to tackle all makes. This included a good grounding in electrical theory, H&S, as well as customer care. Ok it took two years, (80 Days on day release).

Oh dear I feel the wheel is going round again.

Here’s to 2004, and perhaps a change in perception.

In the light of present settlement climate I question wether £1m of PL cover is sufficient. Most contracts require a minimum of £2m. I had a gas contract wanted £10m.

    Re: The Whirlpool Thing

No suprise here then CES/Philips/Whirlpool, same management, different name, by history about every five years have a directional change. If you dont believe me talk to the old hands.
First 16 regions down to 8.
    then sub-contract off uneconomic areas
Then sell to Whirlpool who tear up all contracts day after sale.
Then look for Partners, and layoff engineers.
Now who knows. become a whoosanum bird???

Re: Does anyone check wall sockets?

Why invent the wheel when it’s already been tried first by DASA then by City & Giulds. Course is still available on day release over two years.
Problem is the apathy of this trade made the course uneconomic for the colleges to run, require a mimimum of twelve to make viable, so they dropped it.
DASA still has all the information and possibly the assessors / trainers all that is needed now is the will power to see it through.

    Re: Spares Pricing

With these ludicrous price hikes arn’t we getting, god forbid, to the stage of the Americans, of a throw away society, because the repair cost out weighs the replacement cost.
As you rightly say the only winners are the manufacturers, and as they produce more and more rubbish products, for lower and lower prices,
    WE get squeezed out.
I think Kens idea of ridiculus prices in the public section, perhaps along with the cost of the part from a reputable supplier outside of the manufacturer, : ie quality bearings outside say £10, manufacturer same make bearing £40, is a good idea 😈

DASA website needs a drastic upgrade and hopefully will in time.
Martin you may carry out the requisite tests but do others???
