AMDEA Appoints New Chairman

John Morrissey, Managing Director for Peterborough-based Indesit Company, has taken on an additional role as chairman of AMDEA (the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances), the trade association for the domestic appliance industry covering the whole of the UK.

The BBC reports this morning that electrical goods retailer Kesa has announced plans to sell off its troubled UK-based Comet stores to a private equity firm for just £2.

Whirlpool Forecasts 5000 Job Will Go

Bloomberg reports that Whirlpool sank the most since 1987 after saying it will cut 5,000 jobs and lowering an annual profit forecast by as much as 36 percent with demand in the US falling.

Samsung, LG Dumped Fridges & Face Tariffs

We’ve ben waiting on this for some months and now the US Commerce Department has said that both LG and Samsung dumped refrigerators at low cost, in a case brought by Whirlpool Corp. The agency set duties of as much as 36.65%.

Dyson In Court… Again (But Loses This Time)

The Sun reports this morning that Sir James Dyson has been in court again defending his vacuum cleaner designs and, this time, it’s the DC02 cylynder Dyson cleaner pitched against alleged copy from the now Chinese owned VAX.
