Don’t force it, it will break.
Unplug and lean the machine back to a safe, stable angle. Pop the washing up bowl underneath, then undo the screws holding the pump to the front of the cabinet. Remove the black hose, thus allowing access to the object stuck in the inlet tube. Then the filter will unscrew.

I take it you mean the one coming from the drum. Whats the best way to remove the metal clip and will it be easy to reattach – yes Im thick in regards of home repairs, but I resent paying for a repairman just yet.
This forum is amazing by the way and your speed of response is impressive. Cheers!

Steady on with the resentment – this site is owned and run by the repairers…… 😀
The clip is called a Corbin ring – there are special pliers for dealing with them, but a stout pair of ordinary pliers will suffice. Be careful, the spring is surprisingly powerful.

When the filter is jammed like you describe i’d say 8/10 times i can still open it just by turning the filter left and right continuously quite firmly but not forcing it and you find it will loosen and finally open.

Well thats done the trick. It came off easily. I found about 6 quid and fifteen shirt collar sticks as well as a lot of hair.
This repair lark is easy – Ill just come here from now on and do it myself. Dont worry about the resentment though – Im sure you making enough from all the advertising and the 34 million people who have logged on.
On a serious note though I appreciate your help. Going to put it back together and see if it works now.
THANKS MATEY.

Hello,
Regarding the Ariston Margerita 2000 dial spinning, I have a sort of similar issue:
out of sveral programs only one works-the daily wash (30 min program). For all the others after I set the program ,it starts loading water and after a minute or so the pump starts a sort of chuffing sound and
the programmer starts spinning .I have tried the reset thingy and it does not do the trick, checked the filter for blockage it’s clean … can you help?
The model is AWD12S.

Heater relay stuck. Could be heater, wiring, dry joints on PCB; almost always the PCB.
You’ll probably need a PCB and eeprom (the old one does not interchange – got to love the Indesit Company) – model number and serial number required to identify correct one. Parts bill likely to be in the order of £100-£120; a debatable expenditure for a machine of this quality.
Stay safe, power off if you’re going to investigate this yourself.

Ariston Margherita 2000 A1124 Advantage
hi, hoping one of u helpful souls could help….
my problem started the other day when i read that vinegar was good for cleaning washing machines. so, i sloshed a bit of white vinegar in the powder draw and set the machine on a 90 degree hot wash ( programme 1). checked on it a while later and the dial hadnt moved at all and the machine was doing the same pattern. so i turned off the machine, checked filter, odd bit of limescale came out, but nothng drastic. tried startin the programme again, same problem.
turned machine on its side so i could access filter at bottom. theres 2 black pipes coming from the drum to the filter, and a grey waste pipe that empties into drain. unclipped all pipes, the thick black pipe was ok, but the thinner black pipe was absolutely clogged up thick with gunk. removed pipe, cleaned, reattached all pipes convinced that this would of solved the problem.
wrong.
whichever programme i set it on, u can hear the machine filling, drum does a couple of turns, then fills a bit more. then the drum just keeps following the same pattern, one turn one way, pause, one turn the the way with the dial staying in the same place. when i advance the dial it will more often than not do the continual rotating clicking thing. however, i f i turn machine off for a few secs, turn it on on a spin programme it will do this no problem.
any ideas? i so thought after id unbocked that pipe it would be ok!
as far as error codes go…… if i leave the machine unplugged for a while then turn it on and keep button pressed in, theres 2 steady flashes, 3 quick flashes then unlimited steady flashes.
sorry 4 the long post, hoping someone can throw some light on the matter.
cheers, fillo.

Your machine is not displaying an error code and what you describe is not “logical”. It may be worth checking the heater for resistance (25-30 ohms is typical), if that checks out OK, the pcb has almost certainly failed. Not a cost effective repair in my opinion.
Stay safe, power off if investigating.

thanks for your response penguin, that might just be enough reason to seriously consider the ISE 5. got a local supplier, db electrics, 5 miles away, they got the ISE 2 in stock but need to order the ISE 5, any idea how long it would take?
thanks again…

Yup, the new ISE5 is a peach. I’m selling them steadily around Leeds and not a bad word to date.

I would just like to spend a moment to thank Penguin45. Its for your kind of help that the internet was invented. I have found that over the years I have become a bit of a Ariston Margherita expert. I can clean a filter quicker than a Ferrari pit stop crew. But this time it was thought to be fatal. The wife was measuring poor old Marherita up for the coffin and the bright silver replacement whilst I cleaned just about every pipe and contact in the machine. In the end cleaning the motor brushes and motor contact point (cleaned all black away) did the job. This was all due to problem 1) waste pipe and peller full of crud. Found a few totaly blocked pipes but still select a wash and it would just sit there doing nothing, no water flow, no spin. So Im gona buy some new motor bushes just in case. (btw the machines about 5 years old).
Any way. My hat off to Penguin45 and all the other entries on this forum. Most most most helpful.
