Does anyone use this loop tester http://www.test-meter.co.uk/products/17th-edition-test-equipment/loop-testers/pdl-234-plus-multifunction-installer-loop-testing-kit/

I want a loop tester for hard wired appliances to make life a little easier i.e cookers etc ..Those who do have one ,what do you think of it ?? is it any good from your experience when loop testing cooker points using the separate test leads ?

not sure about this one shaun , but i think what you would do is plug the thick black lead into tester , plug the other end into wall socket , and then clamp the green flying lead onto earth of appliance ..

we have metrel ones you see on the side of the page and thats what we do..

    hope this helps

Cheers alley ,i did find on this site http://www.test4less.co.uk/details.asp?productid=164

The manual in pdf ,if you click on the data sheet next to description it shows the manual..it shows using the 3 test leads on a socket unscrewed from the wall so am assuming that you would use these for hard wired appliances using the earth, neutral and live test leads attached to the socket similar to what it shows in the manual. And the test lead with plug would be for sockets where you can plug in to.

Any more feedback on this meter is welcomed 😀

I used a Martindale EZ650 for years fitted in my toolbox and didnt take up a lot of room, i left it in somebodys house i now use the socket and see tester that i got from an ex subby from bg for free, for doing a job for him, i still prefer the EZ650.

Hi Johnnyj is it the same one i have linked that you are now using or is yours the Loop Tester PDL 230BG ? why did you prefer the ez is it cause it’s easier to fit in tool box than the socket and see.
    Thanks

Yes thats the same one, the Indesit guys also use that one also its okay, the EZ is smaller and automaticly does the polarity check then does the loop test, the socket and see does the polarity check then you press a button for the loop test i prefferd it for ease of use and its size.

Cheers johnnyj ,managed to get a socket and see BG one from someone who worked for British gas.Works pretty good and good for loop testing hard wired appliances.

You can Earth Test any appliance with a multi meter from the case to any earth point, such as a near socket securing screw.

You don’t need to waste £99 on a meter that basically a £30 multimeter and a £10 plug in martindale fron B&Q will suffice.

The Nationals are starting to catch up with the current Myth and are looking to cheaper equipment for there staff.

Lee we’re talking Earth Loop impedance here and not just earth ground checking with a ruddy multimeter….! :rolls:

Which I why you get a plug in Martindale as pointed out in my post, hell you could all out and get the EZ150, only cost £45, you should still come in at less than £70 for both.

But go ahead spend money for no reason, your choice.

Don’t forget there is no requirement to carry out any Electrical safety test’s within a domestic home. :boops:

Even regulatory organisations are pretty powerless take the gas industry, there are many known non Gas Safe engineers for example doin work and not getting punished, its only when something goes wrong do people get punished and the punishment is the same if you kill someone no matter what you use/didn’t use to test a product.

I’d bet there is very little difference between a guy doing all the tests and one who does not, my evidence, the lack of dead or injured people currently and the many yrs working in other EU countries who do no Safety Testing including Gas appliances and the level of injuries that currently don’t justify making it a legal requirement. 😉

Perfect timing then lee8, thanks for the reminder. Let’s all not bother, no regs, no worries eh?

But for the rest of us, and indeed the OP, we strive to ensure we apply our trade with safety in mind. And for that the Loop Tester is a must for all hard wired appliances. Mines’s a Robin KMP with D-lok and has served me well for years and doesn’t take out most RCD’s on test. Handy when access to consumer unit is a problem.

Oh dear i was only asking if it were any good lol..Bought one any way and for your info LEE8 i only paid £51 for it so i am happy with that .And it does not cause any tripping and takes no time at all to check sockets and hard wired appliances ..

Guess I’ll carry on doing all my safety checks whether i need to or not.
