How did you manage to get all 4 caps in place, mine were too wide and wouldn’t fit, so only changed outer ones. The ordered caps, were wider than the “old blue ones” I was replacing.
Well, if you don’t check the size-specification :rolls: 😆
you’ll probably find a physically smaller item with the same electrical value…but be prepared to pay a premium for miniaturisation.
Don’t leave it to chance! change ALL suspect ones, a failure COULD cost dearly , as many contributors to this thread have found out.

Yes, thats the board, the capacitors that require replacement are top center in that picture to the right of the three grey boxes (other capacitors) they are underneath a sticker which straddles all four.
I have found a better replacement today from RS part number 190-8551, think they were 68p each. Going to try them tonight as the one from Maplins was too big and didn’t fit the board correctly. The one’s from RS are in a different package but the lead spacing is correct for the board.
Will let you know how it pans out & will take a photo this time.
Got them from this post m8. So assumed (probably wrongly) that they would fit all boards.
Had a quick glance and couldn’t see spec sizes anywhere;

I’ve had a quick refresher through the RS stock-lists and must admit that their documentation can be a bit patchy….but if you look at the tech. spec. sheet for the product-line, you’ll usually find the measurements, lead pitch and diameter, etc. if this is not on the listing.
Also, some cases are standardised sizes designated by a single letter. you’d have to research this.
really, I was just ribbing you 😀 You’ve done well to go outside your “comfort zone” and carry out a cost-effective repair.
Also worth noting,- you DON’T have to mount the cap on the board! It’s quite in order to extend the leadouts and fit the component elsewhere.
Keep them short and insulated, secure the component with a blob of hot-melt glue or tie-wrap.
leads become important at high voltages/frequencies (RF) not likely to be an issue here! 🙂September 11, 2008 at 9:36 am #142056paolo

I went through the whole deal of swapping out capacitors, but in the end I had to replace the boards.

thanks steve, I’ve had them out again, to see if I could get them to fit…lol, but they just won’t have it…lol Original caps are 5-6mm, ones from rs are 10mm!!, and I just wondered how rico managed to get them all to fit. I really want to change all caps (to eliminate the chances of bad ones), but I’m losing a bit of faith in ordering online as I don’t want to end up with size issues again.
Ideally I want to change caps
C1
C26
C27
C28and the four previously mentioned. I have a maplins very near me, but they seem to have nothing comparable unless someone could either post the part numbers they’ve used from RS or Maplins.
Thanks for your input Steve…………….and ribbing greatfully accepted…lol

I had the same issues with the clicking relays with my Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer (S20B RBB20-A/G) for the past year and a half. At the weekend it stopped working at all. I changed the 220 nF caps as well as C27 (100nF) and placed another 220nF cap across C1. I used the ones from RS, which are bigger. I got 3 of them to fit and soldered wires into the last 2 holes to which I soldered the last 220nF cap. So the last cap is lying on top of the board.
This seems to have got rid of the relay clicking and when I switch the Fridge/Freezer on, I can hear the relays clicking into place once. However, the compressor isn’t running, so the blower is just blowing room temperature air into the Freezer. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? There is a black lead that comes off the top of the rear control board, which seems to go to the compressor, and it seems that 240V is being switched through. Also, the fan at the rear also starts after a couple of minutes. Could it be stuck in defrost? How does defrost work, is there a mechanical timer? Do I have a control board(s) problem or a compressor problem?
The service numbers are 858615215000 and 110304000212. Do I need to replace both boards?

Freezer went straight to -18, as it only took me about 15-20mins to solder caps in. Water and ice both working fine. Will give it a couple of days to see how things work out.
BIG THANKS!!!!! to everyone who has supplied info on this subject, hopfully this has saved me a major repair bill.
Would you fecking believe it now the tumble dryers packed in……!!!! already ordered parts 😉 ……………..and the tele went 3 weeks ago!!
Talk about things happen in threes !!!!
cheers Fieldsy
Hi Fieldsy 🙂
I soldered 3 in the front of the PCB and one on the rear. Not the tidiest job but works fine.
If any one is interested I filmed the process. If you are just say and I will post on YouTube.
Thanks

Fieldsy.Hi again 🙂
**I’M NOT QUALIFIED – THIS IS JUST WHAT I DID – IT MAY NOT BE SAFE – OR MAY DAMAGED OTHER COMPONENTS**
I put both these in the C1 position on my board as described on one of the earlier posts.
The extra caps were:
RS 1908450 1uF 630V 27.9mm (I had to bend/step the tails a little to reach holes in PCB)
RS 1908573 470nF 1kv 27.9mm (soldered this one to the back of the PCB)

Hi all,
This is an excellent forum but I am totally confused as to what to do, here goes:
I have a Whirpool American Fridge Freezer that’s gone from clicking relays, to stopping water, then stopping Ice and now completely stopped cooling in the Fridge and Freezer areas.
Model is S25D RBB33-A/G.
I have removed the circuit board that sits near the ice/water outlet compartment which has the LCD display, is this the problem board?
What items need replacing? and can anyone tell me what how to identify them? Any advice would be more than wlecome, as I have my 4 year old daughters birthday soon and need it back on line asap 😥
I am more than happy to resolder new caps as long as I know where they are and what to replace them with.
Cheers,
Myd

Hi, i have a whirlpool S20B RSS31-A/G, the plate numbers are:
8586151 15010
110248 025225
The freezer has started beeping & the warning light on the front flashes & the temp gauge shows no numbers, only dashes! When it is switched off, then on again the temp value appears & stops beeping. Has anybody any advice on this matter?
The temp does seem to warm up when this problem occurs! Thanks.

I had the same problems you are having, as well as the clicking relays, this is a rough guide to how I fixed it (I’M NOT QUALIFIED – THIS IS JUST WHAT I DID).
I replaced the following caps on the back PCB with these :
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear … R=190-8551 For C5, C6, C7 & C8
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear … R=190-8539 For C26, C27 & C28
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear … 50&x=4&y=7 For C1
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear … 3&x=20&y=8 Also for C1
C5-C8 & C26-C28 – When fitting these caps you are going to struggle to fit them all in, this is not a very neat fix, but you will have to solder some of the caps to the back of the PCB. The RS Caps are much larger than the originals.
C1 – The 1uf can be fitted to the top and the 470nf to the rear of the PCB.
I then removed the cover at the back of the freezer compartment and gave the freezer a full defrost making sure all the ice had gone from around the exchanger.
Replaced cover in freezer, fitted PCB back in………Switched on the Fridge/Freezer………BINGO, all problems solved. (still going good 2 weeks on).I would like to thank everyone in this forum, as I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without your help.

CJBOYCIE,
thanks for the reply, i know you stated that you aren’t qualified, but is it easy too identify which parts need replacing with the 1’s you have said?

Shorey,
Yes very easy, the Caps are marked on the PCB.
