I don’t think those caps are metallised polypropylene? The type of cap is important, not sure if others have fitted the same?

Oh, just read the spec, sorry.
We need to establish if you have a power supply problem.
We then need to establish if those caps are suitable in that application.July 9, 2009 at 10:00 pm #142160westfielder

Nope – didn’t work with all the maplin caps, but I noticed that they’re all X2 suppression ones too. Ordered some like yours from RD – should be here tomorrow
Thanks again for your help

ParticipantClicking has stopped!
The banks stopped a £2 transaction on my debit card on Thursday Grrrrr – loadsamoney in the account.
Very frustrated that the new capacitors would not arrive ’till this morning
Thought over the weekend I would try out the theory of the the suppressing/non suppressing caps being the problem and put back some of the originals that measured OK on the meter but to no avail.
The new non-suppressing capacitors arrived this morning and in anticipation I put them in before brekky – unfortunately 20 minutes later the clicking started as per usual. I was gutted!I only had 20 minutes before having to leave for work. So I whipped out C2 (The electrolytic) it measured 900UF not the spec 1000, I put in a new one (measuring 1200 but that was all I had).
I also replaced the last 2 Triacs (Q1 and Q3). Put it back together, kissed SWMBO goodbye and went to work.
So far there has been no clicking.Tomorrow I will list all the final components on the board and all the things I tried to get it working. I must have soldered and unsoldered C1 about 12 times. The tracks are starting to lift!
Will report in 2 weeks if all still well.
Thanks to broddersbaldrick for his guidance and encouragement to persevere and to all who have contributed on this forum. I hope my ramblings may help someone one day – do post if so!

Good morning Nick, I’m thrilled you got your whirlpool working again and without replacing a whole circuit board! Thank you for your kind message too.
Last night i repaired a second Whirlpool Fridge Freezer for a lovely couple in Oldham; the unit had the ‘ice dispenser’ The LED Displays had been flashing and chattering for a week, the fridge had warmed too.
As per my fridge, 4 of the 5 caps behind the dispenser had failed.
Two large Polypropylene Capacitors later and the job was done.
I didn’t charge any money but, he rewarded me with silver for saving a small fortune. 🙂
Thank you to all and UK WhiteGoods for this forum.
N.B The boards can be purchased here on this site and take a few minutes to fit if you don’t want to repair them.July 16, 2009 at 1:35 pm #142163burberry

Hi,
I’ve got a whirlpool american style fridge freezer. Lately, i’ve noticed that although the fridge temperature is set to 2 degrees, food has been going off before it’s best before date!!Can someone help identify what the problem might be?! We’ve had the fridge freezer for 4 years and I can’t find the manual.

Hi Burberry, as Nick explained to me; it’s highly likely your fridge needs a good defrost.
There is a heat exchanger type unit in the freezer compartment, air passes through this into the fridge.
If the auto defrost is failing, it ices up and no air can pass through it into the fridge.
There is also a fan that blows the ‘chilled’ air through.
More often then not, it’s a control unit fault, ukwhitegoods sell these modules if you’re unable to repair it.
Start reading this forum from page one and you’ll quickly come up to speed.
Where in the country are you?

After a bit of searching i found this site so here is my first post.I have been reading this post on the whirlpool american f/f as i have the same problems as most on here but not only does mine have the knocking noise but also the water pipe that feeds the drinking water has frozen.
I have inserted a smaller tube into the pipe and it is blocked behind the front console, i have removed the front facia then tried to remove the front panel but it feels glued by the foam sticking to it and dont want to break it by forcing it off.
Has anyone else had this problem and know of a cure ??
I will look back over this long post and try and find the bits need to stop the knocking as i dont want to come one day to a puddle on the floor where it has packed up.
The model number is S20DRSB33

Hi, you shouldn’t have to go that far, it seems a simple defrost will cure the frozen pipe, then look at why it didn’t defrost automatically.
Most likely the rear module.

johnI pushed the frozen water out of the other end of the pipe where it connects at the bottom of the door so i know it was free of ice but it just freezes back up.
I presume cold is getting to the pipe somewhere behind the front panel but without taking the the front off i cant see where the failure in insulation is.
After seeing the posts on part numbers to cure the clicking has there been a final list of part numbers where the new parts will go staight in as i see the ones from RS are too big and the ones from Farnells might be wrong ??July 27, 2009 at 11:48 am #142169broddersbaldrick

Hi, i have read various pages stating some that are a good fit but I couldn’t find them. The important thing is the type and value. Metallized Polypropylene at 250 – 275 volts AC!! I used the RS 190-8551 and that range, they ARE the correct type!! but dimensions not ideal.

ParticipantAccessing Front Panel PCB?
Hi,
I really have read through the thread, but cannot find advice on gaining access to the front panel pcb.
There are no srews behind the drip tray in the front door as one person suggests, nor anything that resembles access without the fear of snapping the plastic.
All advice greatfully rec’d
IanPS.. tried to add picture !! But it’s a Whirlpool S20B TSB21_A/G 8586-150-15002 (11-0408-025820)

The 2 screws on mine are at the bottom of the drip tray, take the tray out and they should be easily visable.
I still do not know how to get the rest of the facia off though to see the water pipe behind, has anyone had to remove the whole facia and how did you get it off as the expandidng foam seems to be sticking to this panel ? is it easier to remove the whole cover from the inside ??? -
