Well I think mines past the repair stage now. π
Have lived with the lack of water, ice, clicking etc for over a year now, really should have done something about it and last night it’s died.
The freezer display refuses to go down to temp and it’s making no noise except the ‘not down to temp’ beep. π
The fridge side seems fine. :rolls:Is it just the next stage of the Whirlpool saga, is it still fixable, was in the process of running the food levels down and sourceing a standby unit so I could get it fixed but is it now too late? π₯

Hi Raceboy, don’t give up til the fat lady sings lol
Try the cap replacement first on both boards and if all fails, you can purchase new parts right here π
Where in the country are you?
Regards

Hi Raceboy,
I could pop down if you covered the fuel cost π test and replace the caps if they’re found to be faulty.
I’m just south of Barnsley

Hi Rikmak,
So i think you have the Stainless & Black model with ice maker.
Does the water ice up?
If your fridge is ‘over cooling’ you wouldn’t have any water either because the cooling takes part in the lower rear section of your fridge.
Is this the case?
How often does it play up?
What have you set the fridge temp to?
You could try raising it up towards 6 to see if that cures it.Considering all the info on this forum deals with faulty electronics and failures in many modes, I would start looking at the repair previously described or purchase new modules from right here on ukwhitegoods; thatβs if you’re unable to get the circuit boards looked at or repair them yourself.
Hope this helps
Regards

Hi Rikmak,
You may consider replacing the capacitors on the front and rear modules. They are known to cause problems and itβs a good start.
C1, C5, C6, C7 & C8 on the rear
C1, C2, C14 & C15 on the front.
C5 on the front always seems to be ok
Read the last few pages of this forum and youβll be up to speed.
Hope this helps

well I’m thoroughtly confussed with mine now. π―
After a great visit from Brodders, (John) where at the start of the vist my whirlpool was as dead as a dodo, and had been swiched off for a few days, after he’d worked his magic a new set of caps had been fitted front and back and all looked good. π
The unit powered up, the water dispenser worked, there was no pulsing, no clicking, no strange noises at all and the temp was going down.
The ice unit appeared not to be working but we put htis down to no signs of life from the infa-red unit on the sides.
Anyway, as per the manual the unit hit -18 after about 3 hours, all my food was living in a borrowed chest freezer so after letting the unit sit at -18 for an hour or so, I loaded it up and popped a little ‘new’ food in as well, this dropped the temp and it took over night to get back to -18, during this time I kept checking to make sure the food (my control item was an ice cube tray) was still frozen and all was looking good.
I woke up this morning to find the freezer sat happily at -18, took a bottle of milk out the fridge, did the usual breakfast jobs, and the temp had dropped, it never regained temp, did the usual checks, but then at about 5ish I noticed the ice creams in the freezer looked like mush and the ice was now water. π
Saved as much food as possible back into the chest freezer and popped the ice cube tray in there on it’s own
The temp has been flashing — all day, it’s never hit -18
The water in the ice cube tray did start to freeze but has now gone back to water.
I’m thoroughly confused as to what the thing is doing and just hope someone has an idea of what to try next? The plus side is the unit is no longer making any clicking noises…. π³

Okay, we reckon we’ve got it sussed thanks to all the contributions here largely it has to be said. So thank you all, especially the electronic whizz kids for the pointers.
The repair kit, with instruction, is available to order HERE. We are expecting stock to arrive today, after that it’s on our usual same/next day shipping regime.
The front board issues are more complex and the boards differ from model to model so it’s not really possible to give a detailed instruction on that. Asides from which I, like John and others, struggled to find decent replacement capacitors for that board.
This will often cure the symptoms described in this thread and, yes I know it’s a short novel but, it is worth reading through if you’re having trouble with a Whirlpool side by side so as you get a sense of what this will and will not cure on these fridge freezers. Basically, there are other things that can and, do, fail on these fridge freezers.
