Just wanted to show my appreciation for everyone who’s contributed to this thread – I read all 46 pages of it!!
I had the usual clicking and flashing from the front panel, but fortunately no problems with actual cooling. If it wasn’t for this thread I would have been shelling out around £300 for two new boards.
Instead, it was just capacitors to replace. With hardly any soldering experience, I opted for the kit from broddersbaldrick (available on ebay) and sent the boards to him for repair.
His service was exceptional! Great communications, instructions and photos showing how to remove the boards, really quick turnaround (boards sent 4pm Tuesday, arrived back 12pm Thursday!), and a superb fix.
So thanks to UK Whitegoods for creating the forum, thanks to everyone who posted making it the top ranked page for a Google search on ‘Whirlpool fridge freezer clicking’ and very special thanks to broddersbaldrick for his contribution to the discussion and his excellent repair service!!
For anyone who’s just found their way here with the same problem….follow the advice you’ll find in this thread!
Cheers,
Chris.

Interesting, my S20B RSS31 degenerated in to a frenzy of flashing, clicking and random door open alarms. Still freezing, ice making and cooling properly, but horribly noisy.
Got the kit for the rear board, and fitted that, which cured most of the problems, except the flashing front panel. I can live with that, it is quiet!
That seems to indicate the front board needs fixing, but I think that is beyond me, given the lack of that neat kit for the front board.
Do you have a link, I can’t find a front card repair kit.
Thanks.

Morning all, another to the ranks of the flashing – clicking brigade !!
Just started to read this thread with great interest as a new sufferer from the above.
Don’t know whether to replace the boards or capacitors but like the idea of taking them out and sending to broddersbaldrick (anyone got any more specific link ? open and get 4,000 + items – arghh)
Also any advice on what board needs replacing/repairing I would be most grateful.
numbers are 8586 151 15011 and 11 0339 014722.
As with lots of other people been in touch with a very unhelpful Whirlpool and got quoted £250, that’s them fixing it whatever it is or £120 call out plus parts.
Right now to read the middle 40 pages…
thanks.

I went for the change the capacitor option and bought them off Whitegoods (£10 ish inc postage). Better than spending £250!!!! and if it works, which it should, you have £240 in your pocket for Christmas!

I have a FF model number S20B RWW20-A/G that was left behind in a house we have just moved into, it did the classic symptoms of capacitor failure, so I replaced all caps on the rear PCB to no avail, I then replaced all the caps on the front PCB & all was now sorted, no flashing lights or ticking relays, and the FF was working fine for 2 days. However now the FF seems to have given up, there is no flashing etc, but the FF just wont cool either compartment at all, there is a flow of air into both sides via the vents at the top but it is at room temperature, it is making a gentle humming all the time as it was when it was working.
Any ideas before I call it a day & get a new one?
Many thanks Andy
Just a quick update.. I replaced the red compressor relay on the rear circuit board and fridge freezer is now running perfectly, I used Farnell part number:_
1629045 1 RT314024 RELAY, PCB, SPCO, 24VDC RT314024Andy

We have a Conquest S20D RBB32 side-by-side which we took over from the previous owners of our home. Probably new in 2005. It recently developed two problems. The water dispenser started dispensing in spurts. Also, the capacitors (caps) and compressor relay in the rear printed circuit board (PCB) started chattering at irregular intervals, driving us and our dog to distraction.
I read many helpful posts in this splendid forum and then ordered the Rear PCB caps/relay kit from broddersbaldrick at £37.50 on ebay. The instructions and photos enclosed with the caps/relay are very clear and comprehensive. I had qualms about doing the unsoldering/soldering, though, as I’ve soldered only once before, and not on a PCB. I got the PCB out of the rear of the FF and used a soldering iron to release the two pins of each of the caps. The compressor relay however has eight pins and it took some effort and cursing to release them. Every time I tried to liquefy the solder with the soldering iron, it hardened before I could suck it up with a solder sucker. Releasing all eight pins was not easy. Success eventually. I soldered in the new caps and relay, taking care not to put solder where I shouldn’t and thus cause a short and blow the whole PCB ( a new board could cost up to £200). I examined all carefully with a magnifying glass to ensure there was no stray solder. At one stage though, my screwdriver slipped accidentally across a couple of tracks on the PCB. The tracks looked intact but when I put the PCB back in the rear of the FF and switched on, I found next morning that the freezer temperature on the front LED panel just showed — instead of -18 and the freezer wasn’t freezing and there was a pool on the floor from the thawed ice in the icemaker! So I took the PCB out again and put v small blobs of solder on the two tracks which I thought I may have damaged with the screwdriver. After re-assembly, hey presto, all seemed to be working, without relay chattering and water spurting. The freezer display returned to — however, but as per broddersbaldrick instructions this was just a temporary defrost. Later the display showed -18 and the freezer and icemaker froze properly. Four days have now elapsed without problem. My wife is delighted and my family is surprised (having asked me frequently: “Do you really know what you’re doing?”).
I can only echo C M Perkins’s praise:
Thanks to broddersbaldrick whose kit is excellent! Great communications, instructions and photos showing how to remove the board, really quick turnaround, and a superb fix.

We bought our Whirlpool fridge freezer in 2007. It’s been pretty good (apart from the plastic shelf supports in the fridge breaking).
The serial numbers I can find are 0856 168 15020 and 11 0704 014399. I don’t know where to find the model number.
Last night we went to get some ice and water started pouring out of the freezer from the top. It stopped but the front panel is flashing and I don’t know what to do! The temperatures read OK on the fridge and freezer but i really can’t afford an expensive call out at the moment.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am pretty useless with these things but can do practical things with guidance.
I’d really appreciate any help or suggestions.
Many thanks.

Hi,my fridge freezer is a whirlpool 20RB-D3J model no:8586 4411 5010 . Its only 15 months old and has the chattering relays problem . The chattering was coming from the pcb board situated in the lower right rear corner{looking towards the back of the machine} I took the rear pcb off and replaced with a complete new board at a cost of £110 bought from UK whitegoods part no 480132100476 – Whirlpool Rear Control PCB .I defrosted the FF completely by removing the white rear plastic covering the heat exchanger ect from inside the freezer which was frozen right up. It worked fine for about 1 day and now the chattering has come back .The display seems fine and it is cooling correctly at the moment [freezer -17/fridge 6] but it seems to be working harder as the days go by.It has now been clicking for 1 week and i assume it is freezing itself back up. Does anyone know what to try next

Just some info for fellow sufferers of the whirlpool fridge freezer!
Mine is now on its 3rd front control panel. First was fitted about 5 years ago. Second about 18 months ago – that one is from “ITW ISPRACONTROLS” with a manufacturer date of 04/09. That failed last week (the familiar clicking, flashing lights) and I’ve replaced it with yet another.
We’re hoping it carries on working until after Christmas and then the whole thing is off to a skip and will be replaced by something more reliable! (I’ll strip the old one for bits in case they might help other sufferers).
Now I know why the previous owners left it in the house when they moved!

If you do decide to scrap it and know the parts that control the auto defrost i would appreciate the bits as i changed all the capacitors as others have done and mine is working fine (for now) except it wont auto defrost and i have to do it manually.

Sounds like the answer is a new PCB but here goes……..
Whirlpool S20D FSS10-A/G

Went to this one today. No water or ice dispensor. The freezer is over freezing and the bottom of the fridge is freezing! The lights for the freezer temp is flasing — with alarm and the fridge is constant at 5 degrees. It seems to me that the circulating fan is going, checked all the obvious but to no avail.
Anyone come across this prob before?

Have you checked the air defuser motor in the fridge this may not be closing.
The water has most likly frozen in the door and water inlet to icemaker.
If the defuser is not closing this will mean the freezer continues to run and the fridge runs too cold.February 14, 2011 at 5:55 pm #142545aviator

CF error code
I went through the process of rplacing the capacitors using brodders kit (execelent) m/c worked for a couple of years and then failed with the front display showing “CF”.
Turned out that I had a dry joint on one leg of C1 (back board) re-soldered and its working.
Just thought I’d add this for general help, agree its not quite on topic.

I have had a Whirlpool S25B since 2003. Have replaced boards in 2004 and then in 2008 for reasons most of you have suffered. Fortunatley this was the first time I took out extended guarantee.
Now I have intermittent power failures. My thoughts are that fridge freezer is tripping RCD. Have changed all 9 caps using kit from this site. Seems to happen less frequently. Now happens about once every 24 hours.
I have searched most posts, but cannot see any link. Hope someone can advise.
Thanks
