Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

I have read through the last posts reference a problem with my American ff but alas not the same issues (I think). The only numbers I can find on the appliance are as follows:

    8586 152-15010
    11 0236 027469

Every now and again the freezer drops temp and the allarm sounds with — flashing in the display. Today the alarm went off for 30 sec’s with D displayed in the fridge display? does any of this make any sense to you guy’s?

Any help or advice would be appriciated.

    Kind regards
    Mike

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

    Hi All!

I woke this morning with the dreaded “chattering of a relay”, also lost half the contents of the freezer! 😥 Reading through this thread, and in particular Dufferuk’s contribution i tried swapping the two .22 uf caps around……No Avail! 👿

So after checking the capacitors i noticed that the suspect one (C7) was low in value (.17 uf), following the curcuit through, this is fed via C27 (the one in the middle .1 uf). On checking this component i found it was slightly out of tolerance, so i changed C5 C6 C7 C8 C26 C27 and C28 to be on the safe side.

I’m glad to say that the fridge and freezer are now dropping temperature, and seems to be behaving itself! 😀 😀 😀 😀

I hope this is of some help.

    Regards.
    Dave.

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

I had similar problem with my F/F about 6mths ago. The ice maker stopped making ice. Link (whirlpool service agent) fitted the required replacement pipe that supplies water to ice maker, my previous one suffered from icing up! doh! do the engineers not proof read their designs??.
Then the chattering started, the ice maker stopped working, the freezer got warmer and the fridge was just a cooling cupboard.
Quoted 72.50 for callout. Nearly didn’t bother when I discovered these posts, but then thought ‘I can’t change circuit boards!’.
It seems the auto defrost mechanism failed as it was just too frosted to de-ice (along with the failing circuit board).
I complained before their arrival, and mentioned this website to them.
Engineer arrived from Link, and was very pleasant. They only get 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of costs from Whirlpool, 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} lines the Whirlpool pockets.
He replaced the board with the very latest version and said it should not happen again as Whirlpool were now spending an extra few pence on the capacitors. The freezer needed a manual defrost to get the ice out of the condensor.
He didn’t charge a penny!. It was going to be billed directly to whirlpool as a warranty fix. My freezer is 3yrs old, and out of warranty.

It pays not to have a go at the repairman, and an offer of a cup of tea despite wanting to rant probably helped. But most of all, informing them of this website was the thing that got it free I expect!.
    Cheers!

    8586-151-15011

I now need to get some caps.

Thanks to all who have added to this thread.

Apart from which Whirlpool do read these forums and could be tempted to do something over the little stickler of copyright since they sell the information.

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

    Hi all,

It’s fixed 😀 . My fridge no longer flashes all for 25p.

On the front control board there is a Cap C3 on my board it was slightly bulged like you get on a duff motherboard. I’ve changed it and no more flashing.

BTW does anyone want to buy a rear board for a S20BRSS31-A/G part no 481221778192?

    Regards

    Paul

Ok, new boards in, thanks Dave, so fingers crossed.
Just one thing, the infra red receiver is flashing, so I assume that it’s ok, but the transmitter has no light on, even when the door light switch is closed, is this because the freezer needs to get to temperature? If not, how much is one of these?

    Code: 8586-740-01000
    Model: 3xes0fhqkq

In the past week or so i have noticed that the freezer part has been getting very hot (so hot that you cant keep your hand on it) [*]

I cannot hear any noises that i shouldnt hear. basically the fridge is at room temperature and the freezer is like fridge temperature. Luckily we had an old freezer to put our freezer stuff in.

[*] the fridge/freezer is side by side, with a dividing bar down the middle (for the sake of trying to explain where it is hot imagine that there are no doors on). it is split into 2 halves. if i feel around the front of the freezer half then it is very hot but if i feel around the fridge part it is normal.

EDIT: both the fridge and the freezer are set to 4 which is the maximum it will go up to. maybe a faulty thermostat?

worried bloke you’ll need to leave model/ serial numbers . they can be found in the fridge part on the right side but you’ll need to remove the drawer to read them

Thanks for that tur80. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find ’em 😳

    The model number is:

    s25b rsb31 a/g.

The only other numbers I can see are:

    8586 166 15022 and

    11 0414 006123

    Thanks for your help

OK I have Whirlpool American Style Fridge Freezer
    S25BRSS31-A/G, 8586 166 15011, 11 0342 015902,
The ice maker has packed up, the water occasionally pulses and sometimes the fridge doesn’t seem cool enough. Also when you try an crush ice (when we had some) all the lights on the front panel flashed. We have no red lights working in the freezer and the machine humms when the ice maker is turned on.
Do I need new boards, if so both?
