I didnt remove the panel – I cant see anything inside that looks like it can be removed. However, i have switched the whole thing off again last night and it is completely dry, no melting ice at all.
When it had the warning triangle displayed the motor appeared to be running all the time as well except when the doors were opened then it was quiet.August 16, 2007 at 6:43 pm #141963highbury

Hi all, some questions on these beasties, (S25) I take it that the fridge is cooled via cold air from the freezer via the top vent which I assume is motorised (can any one tell me how to test this item) the freezer is working fine but the fridge is warm at the top but the lower draw is freezing with ice around the little adjustable vent.
I have defrosted the lower main vent and cooling matrix in the freezer, but it did not make any difference.
I had a front bord fault (flashing) which was solved by changing C3 also I seam to have 2 sensors in the fridge one at the back and an other (looking like a photosensor) on the righthand side, can anyone tell me what they should read at what temp anf where they connect to.
Any pointers as to the problem would be very welcomeAugust 17, 2007 at 6:53 pm #141965DentedPorsche

Defrosted, left overnight, all working again, went out to work, came home, problem back!
Appliance 15 months old! – 8586 158 15000
Contacting retailer at the moment as have been advised that under the “sale of goods act 1979” domestic appliances must be “satisfactory and durable” (Test case – 3 year term).
Has anyone else had this problem in such a young appliance?
Whirlpool customer service – only thing i can say is – they are good at getting you off the phone and only wanting you to book a service call. There’s another 12 digit number after the one above, can you post that one too as I suspect your machine is older than you think.

A quick note of thanks, especially to DufferUK, for the advice I gleaned from reading through the posts. I have a 25cuft model, that exhibited alot of the symptoms discussed, clicking, uneven water flow, temp problems, alarms. It then shut down, I confirmed the refridgeration unit was okso off I went surfing and found you guys, I ordered a replacement back board from this site, delivered in days, problem solved. Grand total of 90quid sterling (including delivery),.The replacement card has considerably different caps in the 4 suspect locations and also at C1, C26, C27, C28. I will now replace these once I can get a hold of replacements and will have a back up board….. that no doubt I will never need.
Thanks guys

KeymasterHi Highbury,
Depends on the model but it is the best part of £250 IIRC for most of them to get the pair. If you email Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk with the model and 12NC number he can get you a price but I’m quite sure that they are available from stock, not an October delivery.

I am now looking to get caps to replace on the ‘bad’ board I have, this is the info from the caps at the following locations (from the replacement board)….
C1 : M102369222A T8-1u K275V
C7, C6, C5, C8 : M102349375B T7-u22 275V
C26, C27, C28 : N101939019C T2-u1M 275Vguy in maplin cannot supply as there is no farad rating on the device . . .
can someone familiar with this shed any light ? ?

Guy in Maplans should not be there if he can not see the “farad rating”
This is the “u22” , “1u” etc on the capacitor.
u22 = 0.22uFarads
1u = 1 Farad
etc etc.
Any technician should know this.August 20, 2007 at 3:28 pm #141972FrozenNorth

I dont have the number on me at the moment, I have a service engineer coming out to see the appliance tomorrow, with compliments of the retailer, is there anything that I should be asking the service engineer to look at in particular?August 20, 2007 at 6:42 pm #141973gegsy

Im sure thats 1uF or 1 micro Farad
µ means 10-6 (millionth), so 1000000µF = 1F
n means 10-9 (thousand-millionth), so 1000nF = 1µF
p means 10-12 (million-millionth), so 1000pF = 1nFHTH

OK – yes you are right
I meant to put uFarad
Forgot the u in Front
A 1 Farad Capacitor probably wouldnt fit on the Board anyway
Maybe we could charge it up and post to Whirpool
That might wake them up ??August 21, 2007 at 6:38 pm #141975jontifosi

My one is still slightly playing up after replacing capacitors on back board only (just the little ones).
If i defrost thoroughly it works well for about 7 days.
After that it starts building up ice again (i think) and the fans seems to be working constantly in a struggle to maintain coolness.
After some further time the freezer temp indicator will just flash ‘–‘ but does remain cold in the freezer. Is it the thermostat? is this behind the metal shield in the freezer? How much are they?
The fridge and freezer dor seals seem ok.
On last defrost i tried to poke something down what i thoguth was a drainage tube in back of freezer behind metal shield, but i think it had a 90deg bend or something as i wasn’t able to check it was clear.
If i defrost, again and pour some liquid down it i should see it come out the bottom into the plastic tray shouldn’t i ?
Any other ideas?

I posted back in April about my whirlpool flashing, clicking and spluttering. Over the past week I have taken both front and back boards out a replaced caps but nothing has changed.
On the rear: I replaced three out of the 4 white C5, 6 and 7 (.22uf caps).
On the front: I replaced C3.Not sure where to go from here other than board replacement and whirlpool resentment. Any guidance would be very welcome.
My model is S20B RSB21 and service codes: 8586 151 15001 and 110331 025 202
Interested in ozzy1s recommendation “It looks like a design error that can be fixed by putting an extra .22uf or.47uf capacitor across this large capacitor. This increases the stabilty of the whole circuit and in my case fixed the clicking noises and the stuttering of the water dispenser and ice maker.” but I am not sure which capacitor he is refering to or how to put an additional cap across it.
