Think ozzy meant the big capacitor on back board.
And if i’m right think he means to solder two on the same connection. Can anyone clarify this?
Also how much is a thermostat for my freezer

Solder an extra capacitor across the large capacitor is exactly what I did and it worked. No more Clicking etc.

Hey Natrod
After reading your post, I thought of one last idea.
When I replaced Capacitor C3 on the front Board, I had to also solder the front of the PCB as well as the back because the thru hole plating had burnt off while removing C3. Before doing this, I still had lights flashing and things clicking, even after changing the Capacitor. May be just a stab in the dark, but its worth checking. Best of luck.September 10, 2007 at 7:57 pm #141981natrod
ParticipantOzzy1 – thanks I had the same issue and used the solder on front to no avail. I bought a rear board and plugged it in tonight but it made no difference. I am seeing if I can exchange it for a front board.

I have a Whirlpool side by side S20BRBB20 8586 152 15001 11 0406 012919, bought in February 2004. The back pcb was replaced during the warranty period.
The fridge temperature has been struggling to stay around 10 c and I have checked the freezer temperature which is reading -10 c, so they are both too warm. (hopefully the thermometer I am using is accurate).
I have noticed a little ice on the slider vent for the meat drawer and this drawer is nowhere near as cold as it once was. I was also getting water thumping and flickering lights on the front dispenser.
I have changed the back pcb again and it has cured the water thumping, but nothing else. I don’t mind buying a front board if anyone thinks it will cure the other problems.
The fan at the back of the freezer appears to be working – it only stops when a door is opened, but starts as soon as the door is closed. There is no build of ice on the coils at the back of the freezer, so I think the defrost process is ok.
I can feel some cold air coming through the air diffuser at the top left of the fridge, but I’m not sure if it should be colder or stronger than it is. Can anyone help me? Or do I just need to go through a process of elimination by replacing perhaps the air diffuser, maybe the freezer sensor? Sorry to be so long winded. I am going to turn the whole thing off for a couple of days and restart it to see if there is any difference.
Thanks for reading.

I allowed the fridge freezer to completely defrost and then started it up again. It went very well – for a day. Even the little temperature thing on the fridge wall went green and showed “ok”, which it hadn’t done for quite some time. But now the temperature is rising again to what it was before.
It seems a bit weird it can get down to the correct temperature for a while and then go wrong again.
I have read this entire thread twice (Honestly). I noticed one of the posts referred to the back pcb on later models having a pink label. The one I have just taken out had a pink label. This was one that was replaced under warranty. The one I have just bought and put in has a white label. I think the white label one is probably the right one for my fridge, so this would mean the Whirlpool engineer has put the wrong one in when he repaired it under warranty? Can anyone confirm that from my model number in my previous post?
Anyway, I think I will get a front board and try it ….. unless somebody has any other idea? Please??

I have today spent 90+ minutes on the phone going around in supposed ‘customer care’ circles ………. at least now I know why they call themselves Whirlpool !
Makes no diff which number you choose off the menu all anyone wants to do is send you an engineer (at your own cost) or sell you extended warranty. Nobody is interested in listening to a complaint I’ve had to resort to sending an email through their website, there wasn’t an option that fitted the criteria to send it to so I sent it to ‘other’ which I’m certain is Whirlpool speak for complaints Dept. Will post their response if I get one.
I realise after reading this forum that I’m going to have to pay through the nose to get my problem sorted or be without refrigeration !
Apart from excessive spares costs extended warranty appears to be excessive also – @£200 per year I could buy a new appliance every 3 !!!October 8, 2007 at 12:18 pm #141986collierm

Hi,
Model S20D RBB32
A couple of days ago the display alarmed. It is now acting as first power up waiting to get to temp. No freezer temp displayed just two flashing dashes [ — ]. The sense sign is sometimes on. It seems to be keeping cold but not as cold as it should be. I’m ore than happy to replace boards etc but need some advice.I’m now concerned about who I should call out for this if it comes to it. I’m in the Telford/Shropshire area. The fan seems to run constantly.
Any advice re problem or recommended repair apreciated.
The two numbers I have are:

ParticipantDid as someone else. From interior of freezer removed cover and defrosted overnight (sensors caked in ice). Been working ok now for a week.
Think it may have been over filled, was crammed full of stuff.!

I have a Whirlpool AFG7060 (8549 706 15002) upright freezer that seems to have suffered the same fate as the American freezers in this thread. It has been ‘chattering’ with the temperature fluctuating wildly for some time, but has just given up completely and defrosted!
Is the control board likely to be similar to the ones mentioned above, and if so, will changing the capacitors save me forking out for a new PCB? And does the fact that it’s now stopped completely an indication that I’ve left it too long and the PCB is beyond repair?
Cheers, Dick.

ParticipantI have an S20BRWW20 8586152150 fridge freezer with a flashing front display and relay chatter, doing this more or less permanently. I have replaced the rear board with a new one but problem is still there. The refridgeration side works fine and icemaker works fine except it wont dispense ice now. when trying to dispense ice relay chatter increases and light flashes at same rate. Has anyone any ideas

I didn’t get any reply to my email to Whirlpool customer services – so 20 days later I kicked up a big fuss on the phone ……… only thing I achieved was to get a response to the email – as follows :-
I am sorry to hear that your fridge freezer is not operating correctly. Unfortunately I have been unable to contact you by telephone.
I regret that for safety reasons we are limited in the technical information that we can provide to our consumers and we cannot give a diagnosis or confirm a part failure without prior inspection from a qualified technician. We have however spoken to our Technical Department and I can confirm that we have no inherent problems with any of our cooling and freezing products.
With due regard for the facts as outlined, I can only advise that you contact our service providers on 0870 6008989, option 1 and they will arrange for an engineer to visit who can carry out a full inspection on the unit.
I trust that this problem will be satisfactorily resolved and I offer my apologies for any inconvenience caused to you.
I’m assuming she means full inspection at my expense

My one is still faulty
It works fine and does ice and keeps everything good for about 9 days, then the temp indicator on freezer starts sounding off and the fridge won’t cool as much. I leave it another 4 days then defrost the whole thing and put all food in an a cooler box for the night.
I rmeove back panel inside freezer which reveals the iced up heat exchanger (like a radiator) leeave it defrosting overnight and power up everything fine for another two weeks and defrost. like clockwork. So it would appear my one doesn’t go through the auto defrost cycle or something , not sure what to check to confrim this or what to test to identify which part i need though.
