strange how nothing quickly turns to gold….
Monday only 1 job booked at mobile home. Got there BER’d Inde plastic tub WM (backplate). Let’s me know he’s told neighbour I’m coming. Next door WM (handle job) and WP TD duct stat 🙂 Phone rings for lovely dear around the corner – two appliances not working… know her of old… better to explain, demonstrate and practice job on site. Got there Candy multi function oven doesn’t work anymore and grill has never worked… (clock and function switch) Next lovely great condition Zanu IZ….lots of explanation and practice…. just as I’m walking out…TD takes too long to dry – remove lint brick from the door, clean condensor. On the way home, call from letting agent 4 jobs in one house…. oven not working, bare wires, integrated CD knacked and broken toilet handle. (clock, old piece of 6mm left by installers, beyond me and quick buy from B&Q around the corner. So 1 into 10 does go – not my best paid day but bit of running around, and happy.
Today (15), 1 job, two hours with accountant (end of year) afternoon off for my birthday.. 😀 😀 only to spend the afternoon catching up on loads of other paperwork… did get a corking curry for me tea though 😀 : 😀 😀 😀 oh and hour with me son in the garden playing footy- smashing day but not much dosh…
tomorrow… 1 oven repair, then replace a cracked bath panel and couple shower/toilet handles…. even offered to cut the grass ‘cus the property has been empty for 2 mths. getting desperate for work. Thur & Fri less than what UK gets in Eurovison song contest……just under 1 – oh also called booked with local college to discuss ccn1 and ckr/lpg training… got to get some dosh coming in…

It’s as dead as a vampire over my way (Ireland) anyway – we are really feeling the pinch here – it’s bizzare – nearly every customer that walks in the door are speculating – ” You Guys Must Be Flying” – “Ah we holding our own” is my retort but the fact is we are struggling to stay open – Our takings are in the red!

Been very quiet again here. Monday only one call, the phone did not ring till gone 3.00. Got a couple of jobs in for today but nothing much else for the rest of the week, so far.
I took £400 last week, that was takings not profit. This trade is going the same way as the brown goods repair trade went in the 90s.
Try finding a TV repair shop in any high street now, they’ve all gone. At one time they were everywhere and very profitable.
It will only be a matter of time before we go the same way, with sealed drums and many machines being sold so cheap, who will want a repair in 10 years time, will we still be able to repair them in 10 years time. It’s not looking good in the short term and it’s looking even worse in the long term. :sadder:

Thats certainly the way the manufacturers & sheds want it to go Gazman..every repair we do is a lost sale to them, their greed for profit is all that matters to both of them.
I basically see this job as part time employment now & have had to adjust my lifestyle to suit.. if it wasnt for the fact my wife has a fairly well paid job we’d probably be in a tent by now!Oh well, i seen on the news last night the Chinese natives are very restless & demanding & getting 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} pay increases from the greedy companies who are exploiting them.
Hopefully this will push up prices a little 😯I try not to get too stressed about it though, it really is pointless worrying about something you can do little about.
It does bloody annoy me though.. i feel very proud of the job we do, think of all the thousands of tons of white goods we have all stopped being sent to the tip through our efforts.
We’re environmental heros we are :tup:Eddie.

I wonder what would happen if the green party were to run the country ?
(not that will ever happen). Maybe they would look seriously at the issue of throw away appliances etc.June 29, 2010 at 10:29 am #372376wards

I normally get quiet at the end of the month.
I think it has to do when people get paid, should pick up next week. 🙂and with the tory ( 👿 ) budget I think we may start getting more work in as more feel the squeeze.

Work will come back, don’t panic Mr Mainwaring. 😛
It’s probably the same all around the country but around here there are a few new boys Ex Comet who are giving it a go. I heard last week that one of them is doing repairs for £25 + parts in my patch! he lives 18 miles away. 😕 One of the local shops is also advertising repairs, so I have three of them eating away at my customer base, fortunatly most are loyal to me as I have given a good service over the years but it does make me wonder. I was concerned about the diminishing call rate coming in but hearing that it is the same all around the country I am now a bit less concerned.
Hope it picks up for you all 😉June 29, 2010 at 7:58 pm #372380adv
