Participantandyjawa wrote:Are Haier decent? Not sure now but were sparse on spares – might have changed, equally might not have? There are some for around £330 and that’s with promotional 5 year warranty. MODEL NUMBER PLEASE would be good AND RETAILER even better.
Err, yeah, don’t know why I didn’t just link specific first time : https://www.euronics.co.uk/catalogue/laundry/washing-machines/freestanding-washing-machines/front-loading-washing-machines/haier-hw80-b16939-8kg-1600-spin-washing-machine-white/p/HAIHW80B16939

Participant…. I also didn’t realise Miele was part of the Vestel thing now; thought they were still independent (based on nothing more than assumption) I never said they were!
Ahh, I’ve mis-read “….all the Turkish Vestel machine brands, Hotpoint, Indesit, Miele” i.e. I’ve read the list after as being examples of rather than list before.

Participantelectrofix ahh, ok I’ll take a look at that. Thanks.

Participantelectrofix Been a long time since I’ve done this, but assuming I am doing it right, it does look like a few of the lower value resistors have gone. They are reading as open circuit.
I suppose I could try to find all the faulty resistors and replace, however I assume it is unlikely that just a resistor has gone and that I would be better replacing the whole unit. The date on the sticker is 2015, so don’t know what the normal life time of one of these is.
Will mull it over and might gamble on a new PCB.
Thanks,
Neil.

ParticipantSorry about the delayed response (had other things going on that prevented me checking in as soon as I would have liked).
Thanks kwatt that does look like (from memory) the one for this model.
Thanks electrofixfor the info re off-site picture hosting, useful to know. Also thanks for the resistor check hint. I do have a multimeter,so should be able to do that. Resistor colour codes takes me back longer than I care to remember :0/

Participantandyjawa No worries re delay in reply; I wasn’t, necessarily expecting one. Now I’m late reply; didn’t check updates for ages. I think/hope I’m good wrt to state of motor. Thanks again for replies and help (hopefully this thread might help someone else as well).

Participantandyjawa Hmm, that’s a good point about sparking.. I honestly don’t know as it the location of the machine means I can’t observe the motor whilst it is running. I suppose I could take the machine out again and look for signs of damage on the commutator.

Participantandyjawa new brushes have now been installed and we have a working machine! I’ve put it through drum clean, synth, cotton (longer and shorter), so spin speeds of 400, 700 and 1000 (max on this machine). So far so good. I think I can hear a louder “buzzing” from the motor when on spin cycles, but this could be: –
a) brushes “bedding in” (if that is a thing”
b) me noticing the noise more, because I am actively listening for any signs of problems (more likely, perhaps)So that’s a working machine for just under £10 (inc. delivery) and no need to rush out and buy a new machine. Thanks again for your help.

Participantandyjawa thanks for clarifying. I got a prompt response from parts email query suggesting the pattern parts as well. Pictures look like the ‘slope the right way’. Just ordered. I will updated once I have them fitted.
Gokhk I know! I knew we had, had it a while, but when I checked the purchase date and it was 8 years I was impressed. If I can get a bit more out of it with new brushes even better. I was prepared to have to replace the whole machine, but would rather wait until after the house move if I can.

ParticipantI can’t see a label on the motor identifying it as a Welling, at least in situ (see picture).
However the brushes do look like the part no. you stated (Indesit part number C00196539) see pictures and link to part.
Although there is another part (SKU CAR73) which look the same, at least in the pictures.
I will email the shop to confirm before ordering.
EDIT: photos exceed size limit (of PHP interestingly) will crop and upload later.

Participantandyjawa Thanks for the reply. Like an idiot I didn’t think to look at the brushes when I was cleaning and checking hoses etc. To be honest wasn’t even sure if it had brushes. Sounds like it’s definitely worth checking thoes before buying another machine.
I spoke with a local repairer today who said his callout would be around £65 then cost of fix; so on an 8 year old cheaper machine probably not cost effective.
I’ll check the brushes and see what I find.
I assume I will need to check and clean the armature as well? (it’s been longer then I can remember since I helped Dad replace brushes on washers :0) )
