ParticipantRe: Hoover for 65 guineas
I have a pic here of one of our display windows from 1964 – the Hoover twin tub was then 69 gns and the Hoover Keymatic (remember that?) was a princely 95 gns reduced from 105.
The ‘Spinarinse’ was £27 15s or, to you sir, £3 down and 6s a week .
Their other slogans from the time were ‘Theres a good reason for choosing Hoover – now!’ (catchy) 😉 and the Keymatic was ‘Quite the last word in washing machines’

ParticipantRe: Which machine on a budget of £300 ?
Just dont get another Indesit!
For your budget I’d look at a Bosch – you can get them for £300 or less.

ParticipantRe: In search of old friend/colleague Laurence Gilder
Try http://www.192.com – a quick search shows a Lawrence Gilder resident with a Bernadette Gilder so thats probably your man.
You will have to pay to access the details though

ParticipantRe: Can you help me choose please ?
The Zanussi has marginally better reliability that the LG but like Don would suggest you look at a Bosch too

Yes I did – Rangemaster @ Leamington Spa

ParticipantRe: manufacturer
I no of 3 only hotpoint, hoover , candy
As Hoover/Candy are out of the same factory in Merthyr Tydfil its really only two factories now for washing machines with the Hotpoint/Indesit operation in Nth Wales – pretty sad really 😥
For refrigeration its not much better – just the Indesit Peterborough factory and Norfrost/Icetech up in Caithness – I think the old Lec Bognor factory is reduced to commercial stuff only now.
Tumble driers – Crosslee in Halifax and Indesit in Yate
Cooking – Indesit @ Blythe Bridge, Stoves/Belling at prescot and Lux @ Spennymoor
Dont think I’ve missed any

ParticipantRe: Teba cooker TFC1360SS safety issue
Lets not be too hasty in condemning the retailer – if the product has been purchased with a safety certificate issued by an appropriate authority then it will be normally taken by the retailers buyers as read that it compies with all relevant legislation.
Even if the retailer has their own in-house safety test lab it would not be the first time that a sample was approved and then the manufacturer went off and produced something different.
The UK arm of Teba went bust but as far as I am aware the parent company is still a going concern.
Anyway have a look at the link below and tell me the CEO of Teba isn’t Boycie from Fools and Horses!

ParticipantRe: Compensation Issue
Theres a distinct smell of fish on this one – sounds to me like your customer is having a punt to see if they get lucky.
Along with previous posters I recommend lots of photos and talk of insurers etc. Hopefully they will be dissuaded by the suggestion of lots of red tape and realise you are not going to cough up on demand.
Good luck!

ParticipantRe: Whatever became of the Titan W/m?
I sincerely hope its a success as it was genuinely innovative.
Just as long as the reincarnation doesn’t involve half arsed production mods like before (transit fixings that were basically wooden wedges fixed to bits of washing line for example) it should be much better. And with the old Malmesbury smoothie not producing at the moment there may be a UK sales opening…

ParticipantRe: Wanted: Kenwood ckb300 instruction manual
Dont know where this was bought (and correct me if I’m wrong guys) but isn’t there restrictions on selling stuff without instructions – particularly in this case where its a built in appliance and needs to be hard wired to a cooker spur etc.etc?

ParticipantRe: Indesit – Not in my back yard at least!
I cannot believe that Indesit were sending their EPS to a landfill – most large retailers have been compacting theirs down for ages.
Still, less EPS means more room in the ground for their products 😉
