GREED
The Telegraph article did not mention it but this smacks of the old pals act – those of us with long memories will know that Pavlosky was MD of the Mastercare operation back in the day when John Clare was the Dixons MD

Is that qualified enough for you?Sigma 3 – delivery 4-6 weeks (from their website).
Howdens – planned and delivered in about 48 hours if required.aeronaut

With a 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase in turnover and £100m pre-tax profit announced yesterday they must be doing something right.
Sure better quality kitchens can be found but not everyone has a £20k budget. For my money they are the best of the bunch for the mass market and tend to offer the best customer service over the likes of B&Q, Magnet, Benchmarx etc. – most lines are available from stock.
Agree on the appliance quality re. Candy etc., although they do offer Bosch.
Remember they are a trade supplier, so as has been mentioned before, the kitchen is only as good as the installer.aeronaut
ParticipantRe: CONNAUGHT PLC
Under-bidding to get contracts has apparantly been a big cause of the trouble.
One of the directors was recently suspended for dumping a load of shares just before results were announced and the cheif exec has recently left.
One of their large suppliers has put their account on stop.

ParticipantRe: Currys/Comet Merger?
Given the competition commission kicked the idea into touch back in 1989 (when poor old Rumbelows still had a market share) I can’t believe the idea would be more acceptable now.
However, with my DSG shares currently at junk value I would not object!!

kwatt wrote:I have been told that Homeserve are franchising stuff out and, it is a franchise. I’m sure that some of the old Service Force/Electrolux/Zanussi agents as well as some from the old dark days of Mastercare will have their toes curling at the very thought of this but it does apparently involve a franchise fee.
Perhaps no surprise then that a former MD of Mastercare went to Homeserve (although he seems to have disappeared off the Homeserve site now so may have moved on again).
Theres a few other ex-DSG people that jumped ship to Homeserve too.

ParticipantRe: Currys Staff Cull
News reaches me that the Currys white goods commercial dept. is now down to just 2 people.

ParticipantRe: Heavy fridge down stairs? No problem!
Limited use item, like all the rest. The video only shows it being used on a nice wide gentle flight of stairs. When you have a delivery into a Victorian terrace converted into flats and with a 90 degree turn at the top of the stairs its a slightly different matter… 😉

ParticipantRe: Currys will no longer deliver to flats!!!
All 14 Currys home delivery sites are supplied with electric stairclimbing barrows. Unfortunately in my experience all said barrows are normally gathering dust because in most cases the drivers cannot be bothered to use them.
They will also be running with a large number of agency staff at this, the busiest time of the year for large whites. It normally is down to the discretion of the delivery crew if they really think there is a H&S risk but as there is not a huge weight to an electric cooker I would guess they were just being lazy ar*es.

ParticipantRe: Comet auction site for Joe public/What next?
Comet have no damage returns agreement with suppliers (for a buying margin advantage) so have to take responsibility for their own accidents.
They could sell into the trade to a jobber for a fraction of the cost price (and the worst conditioned of it goes that way) or they could punt it out on the web and recover at least the cost price (plus hopefully a bit more) with the added opportunity to sell a warranty on it.
If it was your business, what would you do?

Snowcap fridges anyone? 😀

ParticipantRe: Upstairs Delivery
I believe the 25kg is more advisory than legislation.
Wonder if there has been something lost in translation here. Using a forktruck would presumeably mean appliances having to go in and out of upstairs windows 😯
Did they mean an electric stairclimbing barrow?

Penguin45.
That tabletop model is now discontinued but the latest incarnation is Matsui MTT1W which you can view on the Currys site.
Needless to say its of Chinese origin
