ParticipantRe: What do you give your accountant?
I give him a CD with all the finalised accounts and the payroll year end. I compliment that with copies of receipts for company assets over £50, plus any pension payments and interest sums received. I supply bank statements, copies of VAT returns, quarterly profit & loss sheets and anything else I feel is relevant.
To give him piles of outs over ins would be unworkable. He pays an annual visit and looks at random transactions and confirms all is findable. Tells me how we are trading financially then issues his account. Provided all looks in order, and you use a recognised system like sage, that should be sufficient with most accountants.
One suggestion though, should you ever considering changing your accountant, expect a full tax investigation. I changed for various reasons a few years ago, and had a visit. All was in order though.

What about.
Is it fair for manufacturers/work providers who use agents, to be undermining these service partners by handling & making a profit from chargeable work & spares sales.
(If anyone can precis that lot, feel free)
Reason of course was highlighted in the rumour mill only a couple of days ago concerning an American company.
Manufacturers as well as work providers are now making inroads to their repair agents network and attempting to “handle” chargeable calls. As well as those who use service agents but are selling spares direct to the public.

The men in pin-stripped suits came in force to each and every UKW meeting and were welcomed with open arms by many of us. Now you are calling them dictators with too much power but I’m sure those same pin-stripes will have a wry smile at the sentiment but care much less over it 🙁Well spotted Martin. One name in particular I think. Paths have crossed several times now, whether it be Hoover, Mastercare or the present day. Leopard never changes his spots.

TomC wrote:Hi – Just passing through. It just goes to prove what a small world it is. Here in the land down under………..All service comes through the main call centre and is then allocated to the appropriate technician. The technician is usually paid a flat fee – no matter how long the job takes. The fee is the same for warranty or charge work and no profit on parts as these are supplied by the manufacturer.
The tech now has to cover the labour warranty on this repair – so if a repeat call is required, for whatever reason, unless you can convince the customer it is chargeable – you cover the cost. If you decide that the call should not attract a charge (customer fault etc) there is every chance that the call centre will decide that there is no reason they should miss out on a chargeable call – and will charge you their normal percentage of the fee – even though you have not charged the customer.
Tom C.Small world isn’t it. Exactly the same as we “Enjoy” in this tired old land.
One day like milkmen, bread delivery boys, the fish man, coalman etc. someone will remember us fondly, and wonder what happened.
Can anyone think of an epitaph for the whitegoods repair trade?

5. Contact numbers must be manned during office hours or an answering service made available, answering service also available out of office hours wherever possible.
Contact numbers to include a land-line number, must be staffed, (Different meaning to Manned) in office hours. Alternatively an answering service be in place and extended to an out of hours answering facility where and whenever possible.
Don’t know if that is better, but the land line as we discussed not too long ago is very approrpriate. Couldn’t say manned as that will upset the feminists.

CDSL, too much power? I’m starting to think so and the situation there could become extremely dangerous for all of us but I have heard tell that not all in that garden is roses either, already.

Haven’t a few of us being saying this since day one. IMO I think the dust has settled and its turning into the ‘mastercare’ way of running a network. Which as we all know is not good – but what can be done now they have such a large market share !
Dead right.
This lot are seemingly scary.
Don’t get me wrong. I like the way their site works, call logging etc, back up where & when possible, (pne makes it their problem when we are stuck). There is a lot going for it, it is professionally done and it pays a few of my bills. I work with them quite happily at present, but I’ve got a long memory.
However, we need to keep an eye on them, some of us could just become just that little bit too dependent on them, and that’s when they can call the shots.
They didn’t get Gorenje, and I hope they don’t get the next forthcoming biggie, whatever that may be.

1 & 2 is fine.
Will read the others and try to disect them. Problem is we could pull things apart so much it might look like the back pages of an insurance policy.
A few rounding of corners won’t go amiss though.

Great news Kev but is this across the board (i.e. for everyone in the network) or a one off deal for those with enough clout to pull it off ? It will be interestin’ to see. 😉
SeanIt isn’t so much the clout, I think we all have that, it is the balls to do that matters.
I think as you get older, you tend to become more resolute and stronger in your convictions. Well, that is my excuse anyway.

Installed a sink unit and tried the taps before I’d fitted the waste. Not being silly, I put a bowl under the strainer of the sink to catch the water, and was proud I’d thought of it.
Yes you guessed it, picked up the bowl when I finised, emptied it down the sink.

No doubt you will drop into the conversation with Roy that the Brandt contract stinks anyway. Not that it does of course, and being president of the Brandt fan club I will not hear a word against them. (Bastards).
Hope Roy doesn’t mention anything about your actions “compromising your business relationship”, if he does we are all due a letter soon.

I bet they never had an introductory conversation with you either.
We get the odd call asking the name of the proprietor, or director. Few days later, cheery phone call, “Can I speak to Alex Please? I was talking to him the other day…..” When one likes this does break through and hits my office, they go away when I quote the Telephone preference service, advise they are committing an offence and ask their names as well as the team leader.
Most local web pages will charge you about £30 to £90 p.a. for a link. Just hit the one below. Comes from the local town site, well known and advertised on local radio. £30 per year. These guys are jumping on the bandwagon.
