    Re: OWWW!!!! My knees!!!!

You have a problem straight away as a goat always kneels to eat grass. They are very fastidious and will not eat where they may have trampled.

Flippancy aside kiddo. You have my sympathy.

I have been hobbling for over a month now. Knees have been very sore, red, inflamed and extremely hot.

The cause amazed me. Gout, no not Goat, Gout. You’d think it was a big toe thing, but no, it doesn’t discriminate which part of the body it will get you in.

I played golf one sunny afternoon, came home, left knee very sore. Got worse overnight, until I was crippled. Saw doctor, suspect Gout. He gave me some anti-inflammatory tablets and off I hobbled. Got better after about 2 weeks, so I went to the German Grand prix. Walked miles, no problem. Until the car journey back to the hotel, then the right knee started. By the time I got home it came back in the left knee and I was in a right old state. Back to Doctor, as soon as I mentioned the Golf & German G.P. and he got to the bottom of it straight away, and importantly why.

Dehydration was what brought it on. The cause of gout is hereditary and is a metabolism thing. We all produce a certain amount of uric acid from the liver, which the kidneys deal with. If you happen to produce too much of this acid, and then get dehydrated, asking for trouble. Instead of dissipating though the normal channels, it gets absorbed by the soft tissue. (Note the politeness)

So, I played 18 holes of golf, walked about 6 miles, drunk about half a litre of water, then a pint of Beer afterwards. Never went to the loo hardly all day. Left knee decided to protest. 2 and a bit Weeks later, sit in the sun at Hockenheim. Drink 2 bottles of coke over a 12 hour day, then a few beers in the evening. Again, no need for the loo all day.

The dehydration kicks in, and of course made worse by the beer being a diuretic, then the kidneys failing to disperse this uric acid successfully.

This has been so painful I’m actually of the booze. Now my knees are a lot better, but still not able to put any weight on them. I could wriggle my kneecap, and actually feel the crystals underneath. Felt like a load of beads.

Reading Goat boys, story about his day in the sun, made me wonder regards all of the above.

The moral is, take more water with it.

    Re: Why is it?

Why do customers phone and complain, “Fridge not cold enough” When you get there it is turned off with the door wide open. I used to say, “No wonder it isn’t cold enough madam, someone has turned it off & left the door open”.

Why do they offer a cup of scalding tea just as you are ready to walk out the door.

Why do they request we phone before we call, if you are there to answer the phone, you are there to answer the door.

Why do they ask us to phone a mobile 30 minutes before and they will come home from work, and we find it is turned off, then they tell us they are not allowed to have their mobiles on in work.

Why is it they have only one 1 hour window all this week that they expect you to call in, and then complain when you are unable to oblige that time slot. Or phone on a Monday afternoon, state they are only home on Mondays, then complain when we offer the following week.

Moan that they have to wait 2 days in the middle of summer for a tumble dryer call, yet prepared to wait 2 weeks to see a dentist and 6 months for a hospital appointment.

Have you noticed that any week before a school holiday, you are quiet, then on the Friday afternoon, they all phone up. Then when some of your engineers are on holiday, you are inordinately busy.

How about the customer that phoned the first week of the Summer holiday with a fridge failed, and day after tomorrow was not good enough, the fridge has not been working for a week. Asked why didn’t she phone before, she explained she was working, and left it till she was off. We advised her that one of the fridge engineers was on holiday. She said, “Well you knew it was going to be hot and fridges are likely to go wrong, it’s outrageous to allow this person to have holidays in the Summer”.

Why do pensioners always go shopping on a Saturday?

Yes and me. Might be prudent to get numbers this time as there were a few that sloped off as soon as the morning session ended, leaving a lot of uneated food (Uneated? where did that come from? try uneaten). The amount was generous in any case as it usually seems to be.

As promised from an earlier post. The proposed refurb has not happened yet. All in the aid of research, along with a few others, I checked it out last week.

This should appeal to “kiwi who wants to work in Canada”.

A bloke walks into a bar in New Zealand and orders a shandy.

All the Kiwis sitting around the bar look up, expecting to see another Australian visitor.

The barman says, “You ain’t from around here, are ya?”

The guy says, “No, I’m from Canada.”

The bartender says, “What do you do in Canada?”

The guy says, “I’m a taxidermist.”

The bartender says, “A tixidermist? What the hick is a tixidermist? Do you drive a tixi?”

“No, a taxidermist doesn’t drive a taxi. I mount animals.”

The bartender grins and yells, “He’s okay boys. He’s one of us.”

    Dave.

Good idea, the meeting regards this topic is scheduled for Thursday 11th August, between the manufacurter and agents concerned. This is to be at Sibson, so I will update as appropriate, or indeed if appropriate, depending on the outcome.

I will also let you all know what changes have taken place at Sibson since the proposed refurb. Don’t hold your breath.

As I’m the new kid on the block, and the reserve team, I think it should stay as Chris doing the presentation. I’m not adversed to doing the job if needs be though.

As long as the bones of the presentation is set out, I can do the spiel, and once I know what I’m talking about, no problem.

    See what pads out.

I posted on Friday evening that as long as I’m clued up on what it is all about I can blag for England. Post got lost though. I’ll take the eloquent speaker bit as a compliment. Most people say it is due to a big mouth.

I think my inclusion on this to date has been done very well. I have not felt coerced, nor left on the sidelines. May I respectfully suggest that if Sean feels there is a conflict of interest that he remains in the background of the AC forum. I feel that Sean has the knowledge on these things, and due to my inexperience I will be flying blind. However as I say if someone gives me the guff, I can put it out.

    K.

Assume Tuesday 23rd August. If so no problem.

Probably better to see me at my place. I’m not too sure what I’m doing on the evening before.

Give me a ring a day or so before & we can sort it out.

    What a twat !

    Dave.

No doubt he was given every opportunity to submit a response. After all the reply facility is there, unless he needs some encouragement.

As he hasn’t bothered we must assume he has no case to answer and we are in the right.

I had a phone call from a Service Force agent who is not party to this forum, as with most S.F. head too far up his own ass to look beyond his own empire. Anyway, he told me what I’ve already read in these pages re W/Pool and expressed his concern that Servive Force may go the same way.

Hence a national meeting is due regards the way they are handling spare parts direct to customers.

I’m a little inexperienced in these matters; therefore I really don’t know how we can pad this out for 20 mins, unless we have a lively audience that can feed us some quality questions. However, I am aware other mebers of the AC are old hands at such things. As long as I’m pointed in the right direction, no problems.

I think we on the council need to get our heads together for a few minutes and see what we can structure.

Any Ideas how to make this one interesting?

    Re: Where are we going?

Well I think this debate is what UKW is all about.

Starting with Martin’s viewpoint. First of all some of us are ex engineers, that qualifies us to be moaners and see the negative side of everything.

Regards the P&G thing, I’m not clear either, but there are no doubt commercial reasons why we only have half the picture; and we will get a better presentation at Sibson. I’m sure if there are a few surprises the place to see them is at a meeting, and those who care can be there to see what it is all about. Call it a carrot if you like, but it should help raise some attendance levels. One thing though, the sampling exercise we enjoyed through P&G as Service Force has come to an end after 14 years. Service Force I’m sure won’t relish the thought of P&G supporting something else at this stage, but life moves on & nothing is forever.

Looking from Sean’s angle, a well structured reply & very succinct. He has summed up what I was getting at just now. If all is put into the public domain too soon, without a full evaluation and structuring process, people get jittery and it all goes tits up. This is certainly the case with DASA & Service Force. Steve Clarke went mad as he had it all set for a national Service Force meeting. Due to the leak the whole affair was tainted with rumour & conjecture, so he put out a subdued presentation, and told us DASA existed should anyone be bothered.

It remains important to hold new strategies and major events to national meetings. That way the information is timed and the whole package presented. If too many ideas were run via this forum too soon, it would be like a committee meeting, and bugger all would get done. Those who are running the show, and have the sense of direction, I feel are going about it the right way.

Sean is right, the only body who can show passion happens to be UKW. There is no one else that has managed to reach to so many like-minded people in this trade. The results are there: NESN & Trubshaw, CDA charging customers & passing as warranty, MFI charging for Haier bits we thought were free, Toolworld and other sources of goods to name a few. Now we have Whirlpool and the way they could steer the trade. We can add to that the exchange of information, fault codes, ideas and moreover the camaraderie we hold as a group.

Any case, I’m off the booze at the moment, so I need something to excite and stimulate me at the September meeting.

    See you all at Sibson

    Alex
