    Re: US Grand Prix

Couldn’t agree more. I went and done some bookwork between laps 14 and 62. Didn’t miss much either as it transpired

ITV cludged up their schedules for the whole of a peak evening slot showing us what appeared to be an extended concours-de-elegance.

Unless I’m very much mistaken, even Murray Walker would have been unable to show any enthusiasm. It was a shambles of the lowest order.

Due to the litigation culture that tends to prevail in the States, I can see Michelin’s rationale. However, why did the FIA decide to remain so intransigent? All the teams on Michelin were more than happy to tail the Bridgestone field if the officials agreed to either a chicane before turn 13, or a tyre change part way round. That way the crowd would have had a little bit more value for money. I know rules are rules, but this was a joke.

I’m going to Hockenheim next month, I would be well jarred off if the same stunt is pulled at that meeting.

Everybody was trying to blame each other, but the loser was the sport as a whole. I suspect this was the last US G.P. Won’t be worth crossing the pond just for Montreal in future seasons, so Canada may be an innocent bystander in this debacle.

What happened to Goodyear I wonder? They were once at the forefront, now maybe they should get their marketing boys on the case.

    Ramblings of an old fool.

    Re: best cars

I always say the car I have got now, no matter what it is.

Lost count over the years regards cars, must be in excess of 40 let alone motorbikes before that. The longest I kept a car was the one I’ve just got rid of, a 6 speed Golf estate on a V plate registered in 2000. I had that one for 5 years. Never cost me a penny except servicing, but lost shed loads on trade in. My fault for being too lazy to dispose of it outside the trade. Plus the fact the price of it new came down by about £6k within weeks of me buying it.

Shortest I kept a car that I bothered to register was 6 weeks. Triumph 1300 1967 registration. it was a heap, certainly a B.L. disaster. There was one or two I moved on without registering in my name as they were just passing through.

    Re: another joke.

Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven.

When they get there, St. Peter says, “We only have one rule here in heaven: don’t step on the ducks!”

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.

Along comes St.. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw.

St. Peter chains them together and says, “Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!”

The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn’t miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps.

She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on …. very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin.

St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The happy woman says, “I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?”

The guy says, “I don’t know about you, but I stepped on a duck!”

Very difficult. You could ask too many questions, or require too many boxes to be ticked and put some people off.

Is he vat registered? Not a criteria I know, but a bit of a clue regards size of trading.

What about references from associates, customers or suppliers. (Bit of a DASA thing)

Looks like a few more stipulations might need to be put in place to make it look like even we are taking the trouble to “vet” (albeit in a small way), the members of the repairs@. The charter goes a long way, but that is only as good as the honesty of the applicant. If they can see we are serious, we will then attract the serious candidates. Of course the ethic of us all is trust, but there are times, (maybe not in this case) where we have to be careful.

Ken could send an e-mail or pm to Dented Porsche to see if he knows this guy.

I’m away for a few days now, so something big will no doubt happen, always does.

Repair & Care, (Formerly Supercare Solutions from Normanton in S.Yorks), long gone, taken over by British Gas which is a topic in itself.

CDSL or Connect call their servicing division Repair/Care but not to be confused by the one as above.

IWMS replaced..machine ok for 2 cycles then problem comes back..engeineer did lots of head scratching made a few calls and decided that the machine needed a pressure switch kit..this appeared to be a fairly big mod some new pipework and electonioc/pneumatic switch insatlled in the RHS cavity in the machine..works like a dream..he couldn’t expain to my why it needed the kit..but the only + is he left me with the IWMS which I’ve cleaned out so I guess I have a spare !

Did I get that right? he diagnosed an IWMS, fitted & charged you, came back, fitted a valve kit, took out IWMS yet left the IWMS with you as you had paid for it.

I would have thought he should have either given you the option of keeping the IWMS in the machine, maybe with a few quid knocked off, or taken it away & refunded if he felt was not required. Surprised he got away with that one! The plus side as you say though, you do have the goods, and there is a strong chance you may need them in the future.

There again, I’m surmising as I don’t know the full story.

I haven’t invoked the 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up as that would entail me having to reconcile all invoices in this operation. I cannot guarantee we can track them all, so I’ve left it to MFI to undertake the task. Also the 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is a “handling fee”. As MFI has done the handling and we were not even involved in the transaction, I feel it isn’t my place to implement the surcharge.

This is my way of demonstrating that we had no part in the indentation or indeed the ordering of said parts. I feel our account has been compromised, and what I need is an assurance this will not happen again. I note some conciliatory comments prior to mine has been made on this topic, but as this is my money I’m not taking this lightly, nor am I taking any prisoners.

We tell them; “We are registered with the telephone preferrence service”. We say, “We need to know your name, the number you are calling from and the name of your team leader, you are committing an offence and we will report you”.

    Works every time.

    Re: WATCH OUT!!!!

Thanks to UKW I’ve caught them out as well.

First reaction was, it wouldn’t happen to me!!

Just browsing the invoices, we have found 6 calls to date with PCB’s and 2 with pressure switches. We were totally unaware and invoiced MFI for the labour only on ALL occasions.

I have asked Gary Reid some Questions:-

1 Why was this not brought to the attention of agents that this procedure would take place?

2 Why didn’t Paul Brooks in claims reject our paperwork as no parts were charged?

3 What happens in situations where the customer has either failed to arrange a service call or refused a visit?

4 What about if a customer fails to receive the part?

5 What about a situation where we call, only to find the part was not needed as the fault was something else entirely?

I have asked M.F.I. to reconcile these parts and raise a credit note against my account. I’ve had to do enough leg work in tracing these and do not relish the thought of raising new invoices on an individual basis.

I am not happy that they have plundered my account, and I’ve made my sentiments very clear indeed. I’m not pleased regards the way it was done, and as a consequence I now have to keep an eye on that account. Something I never had to do with them before.

O.K. To change the tub banded type of rear plate on a Servis is better than the plastic tub out.

Problem we find is identification etc. You look it all up, anticipate a like for like replacement to arrive, only to find either the model you have is all stainless as per the old Philco. Or worse than that, all appears o.k. until you discover the motor pulley is a mile out because the tub sent accommodates the induction motor and you have a machine with the series wound type.

The above has caught us out on more than one occasion. At least with Zanussi, it does what it says on the tin.

Tech. back up is poor on the Servis product, along with spares availability and moreover the ridiculous cost of parts. It is a matter of taste I suppose, horses for courses and all that.

Yes I sometimes get a time out even on 1Meg.

I know there are changes in the pipeline as Ken advised us at the last UKW meeting.

Tonight as I write this there are 30 visitors & 22 members. I thought “not bad”. Then I applied a bit of logic. Eastenders is on telly, no wonder we are all on the site.
