    Re: Missed A Bit

I had to read it twice. Took me a minute to work out who was who & I loved the link regards Septics. I was going round in circles trying to work it out.

How the bloody hell do find the time?

Yes I’m pleased it is there as well.

We have a situation at present with a customer who is taking legal action against Premier with the full support of Trading Standards.

I smiled when I read the above. A company with a very similar name and address have blitzed our Yellow Pages quoting several local “Ghost” numbers. They have tried to get the ad placed 1st in the Yellow pages classification by adding a bit to the front of their name. I’m not saying it is the same company, but the coincedences are high.

This sounds like the same company who are well known to ourselves as well as Somerset County Trading Standards.

We get complaints of engineers arriving with a sales brochure & not a tool box, we have heard of them writing off Ariston & Hotpoint products just over a year old when there is a 5 yr parts warranty. In some cases the engineer has had a machine on the van ready to sell on the spot.

We have been advised by customers when there is a payment dispute, they the customer are told to take it up with the courts.

As an experiment I phoned them with a spoof call and asked what the charges were. I was told. “There is no call out charge if we complete the repair, just a labour fee”. I asked how that was structured, but they refused to tell me as it, “depended on the job”.

I questioned the no call-out strategy and was advised, “There is no call-out on completed work, labour & parts only; however, if you chose not to go ahead with the repair, or not to buy a replacement from us, there is an inspection fee of £35 + vat”.

Not a lot given away there I fancy. They have been operating in this manner in my area for 3 years now.

Neil, as there’s no input and hardly any sight of him at all.

    K.

You got it, I don’t see much of Mr Scoggs either.

Sad thing regards Neil is he initiated the whole idea on the original Whitegoods e-mail ring, where Neil thought it a good idea to pool together and work as a team to set realistic rates & standards. He was one of the pioneers, maybe he is too busy?

Neil also chaired our first Meeting at the Travel Inn Peterborough.

However, we need to keep this room at a realistic level, and those that are in here I think are tireless workers and have positive input. Pruning out the dead wood will allow more growth.

You are more than welcome, I suggested your inclusion a little while ago.

We decided we needed someone for the night shift, as you tend to post in the early hours. We are trying to see if you can close the gap between your last posting of one day to the first of another.

Kevin is very good at first watch, posting at 5-ish on a Sunday morning, must be a left over from pacing the decks of the good ship Venus. Of course in his case, he leads an exemplary & temperate life style and is an early to bed early to rise advocate. As the rest of us of course.

Enjoy the W.R., we all do!!

I think I know what you are driving at Dave regards real names.

Phil Dill for example I am aware is a valued member of the WR & I know he puts stuff into here under an alias, therfore he has an important part to play, but there are others whom I’m sure don’t bother.

What I say is; “If you are not part of the solution, you may be perceived as part of the problem”.

    Just a thought.

An extra £2 for gas! What planet are they on?

I wrote to them many times when I was an agent expressing my concerns regards rates and parity. They never even bothered to answer. It was sad really as I liked them for their friendly manner and approach, but in the end they chose to bury their heads in the sand.

They have tried to get us to do calls at double rate since my termination, pity they didn’t listen when we were agents.

Re: Welcome To The War Room

Iv’e just read the list of correspondents to this room.

One or two names I didn’t even realise were members of UKW let alone having access to the WR. Is it an idea to drop off anyone who seems not to show a vested interest?

I like the exclusivity of this room, and would hate to see it diluted with names who don’t appear to be part of it. Without causing offence though I am aware there is no easy way to make the changes. I can ony come up with perhaps the moderators asking said members if they would like to stand down from WR activities and make room for some new blood who may give fresh input. If you are on a committee and fail to show, you eventually get voted off.

    May I nominate Penquin.

Depends on his contract I beleive.

Of course had you been aware of his driving record you could have disciplined him on each occasion. With written disciplinary notes, you have a strong case. Trouble is he will go and get another job, then you have other problems to face.

Engineers don’t grow on trees, even if it seems they live in them at times. Therefore if it is a valued employee, then you move him into the office/stores. I’ve done that a couple of times where engineers have damaged themselves playing football or falling off a bike and are plastered up for a few weeks. Works well as they get an insight to the other side of the operation, gives them a better understanding and improves relationships between office & engineers.

As you say, they joys of employing staff.

Roald Dahl. Eat your heart out.

A cross between: Black Adder 2, Lord of the Rings, Shrek, Monty Pythons Holy Grail and anything you can bring in from the 14th Century.

You should now consider taking on J.K. Rowling. It has been said before, your talents are wasted Ken. Bloody Brilliant.

Today, I have had to employ a driver to drive him round his service calls as we can’t afford to loose 50 service calls over the next week!

I am alittle annoyed to say the least! 👿

I’m surprised you employed the driver. I would simply tell the guy, part of his duties are to endeavour to complete his day to day work. If he has allowed this situation to happen then the onus is on him to make arrangements and at least cover part of your costs.

I know it sounds mean but I would give the guy the option of providing his own driver, taking unpaid leave or accepting part of your costs in perhaps unpaid overtime.

I did have an engineer go over the top on points for various offences, the last one being Gatsoed. I submitted the defence that it was a pool vehicle & we were unsure of the driver. There was a heavy fine but no points off his licence. He is a good engineer and paid back the fine with pleasure. The alternative was no pay due to no licence.

    Re: Zanussi Z919t programme error

And they say Nostalgia is not what it used to be.

2 Versions on the 919 timer knob arrangement.

Early one with NO spring behind.

1 pop off the cap. 2 remove 7mm nut & extract the knob outer. 3 look at the disk & how it relates to the cut-outs on the inner cam, there is a small & large slot and this should correspond to the outer disc. 4 ensure the little collar/spacer is still on the shaft, if not fit a small nut that can slide over the unthreaded part of the shaft. 5 turn the disc so the smaller segment of the timer shaft is at the top. 6 refit the outer knob by ensuring the smaller slot to accommodate the pop on/off cap is at 12 o-clock. 7 run the 7mm nut back on, pop on the cap & hey presto. Ensure knob pops in & out.

If the later type with the spring, there will be no plastic collar inside, and the final position of the outer knob isn’t critical.

Suspect the fault is due to the air pressure chamber underneath. 1st symptom as a rule though would be over-filling and no spin at times.

If so, take it off but ensure no water enters the motor. Give it a clean in a sink of hot soapy water by shaking a couple of nuts inside. Ensure the tube is clear, refit making sure all hose connections are tight.

When testing, don’t try & short-cut the spin programme, let it run into spin naturally from the distribution phase. Or you will smell burning.

    Good machine that one.
