    Re: Sky Plus

I had the Thomson box fitted last week, that was in a plain brown box and was new. This one is a hell of a lot quicker on the menu, and hopefully more stable.

The technician was fully aware of the Amstrad issues, and knew there was a modification needed to be doing.

In a month or so I will be out of warranty, but I will cross the bridge when I get to it, and if this one fails in year 2, I will threaten to cancel the contract.

Just pick a big town or City, and you will hear the same Story.

Bristol, Stockport, Glasgow (who was that then), Southampton, Cardiff and on & on & on. Any agent with engineers who had families where we the proprietors wanted to keep staff who were friends, and above all more loyal to us than the work suppliers would ever be in return.

Never mind. As Dave Highton once said to me, “Never hurt anyone on the way up, as you are sure to meet them on the way back down”.

I think Bruno moved into re-furbs. Last I heard of Tony Games, he was still there counting paperclips. I would imagine thay have both retired by now.

It wasn’t that bad as Candy days before Gias, the big mistake was allowing the Hoover management to stay in place, then they tried to be clever and dropped those with common sense & experience without a “Bye Your Leave”

I remember attending a training course in Bromborough in April 1982 and Bruno asked me to move my Zanussi Network van from the car park. I just figured out who Jessica is, who no doubt remembers the same course as well.

My 1st association was in 1975, and it all ended in 1999 practically overnight, and 2 skips of their parts I was stuck with. They pulled the rug out from all us agents, and a lot of good people went to waste as a result.

I’m surprised they have managed to keep going for 10 years in the present form. Looks like the bad management prevailed though.

    Sad really

Won’t be there for long anyway. All goes over the weekend. They have offered something on which we can use our points. Don’t hold your breath though.

I am fuming as I have 206850 points, and I’m not prepared to accept the “Fantastic Offer”

    Re: Sky Plus

I am awaiting yet another Sky box tomorrow, Weds. The present one has only lasted 6 weeks.

I was assured that the new one as fitted last time would be o.k. and of course it isn’t, in fact this one is worse.

I have dug my heels in, and told them I will send the guy away with a flea in his ear dare he turn up with yet another Amstrad. (Getting as bad as some of my own customers now) Just had a phone call from him confirming tomorrow’s visit, and he tells me he has a Thomson box allocated. The gossip on other forums tell me this one is a tad better, but not that brilliant.

Sky don’t want to know about extending my warranty free of charge, as I started this contract in October, and unless I take out a D&G policy I am on my own. Just wait until then, and if I still get trouble, I will point out not fit for purpose, and threaten that I shall terminate with them.

I did finally get one of their customer care “executives” to admit there was a problem with Amstrad boxes, and there was a modification about to be released. We shall see.

What I have is pretty well all embracing. Just tick the right boxes.

All these bods ever want to see is something smart on a bit of paper that shows you are a responsible company. So anyone with a bit of savvy should be able to do their own.

    Can’t go wrong with Sage.

All you need is the instant accounts version, can use it for all transactions including sales invoices.

Blimey he will be hard pushed to get a new one. Second hand though nigh on impossible.

Tell him to phone Becks of Glastonbury and see what they may be able to find.

    Re: Serviceforce charging up front?

I’m glad you put a Question mark on the title bar.

I’m a Service Force agent, I have never heard of such a thing, and would never apply it!

It is not Electrolux or S/F policy to work in that manner, unless it is a local thing, or more likely there is history where the particular customer has let them down.

However, the customer may have been transferred to D&G (Inkfish) and they will try & flog an insurance cover and take c/card details up front.

Is it possible to find out the facts in this case?

My web suggestion does look at both sides, and answer every point. I just like the thought of it all.

Don’t get me on Kennedy, that one really fascinates me. Note to anyone who thinks of taking this onto a Kenendy discussion, can I suggest it is put elsewhere.

It is only a bit of sport any way. I’m just not fully convinced by it all.

Re: 40 years ago today 20/07

The thing is, why have they not been since? There is more technology in my mobile phone than what was available 40 years ago. So in theory they should find it easy.

    Then you get:-

    1. The flag fluttering in the ā€œbreezeā€
    2. Shadows from different angles
    3. Reflection in Buzz Aldrin’s visor of the person that took the picture, and another astronaught, yet only 2 set foot on the moon
    4. No Stars in the Sky, should be visible as there is no atmosphere
    5. Foot prints, how come, as the lunar dust will have no moisture; meaning it is just a powder, there should be no impression in the surface, like walking on dry sand on the beach
    6. No lunar dust on feet of module, should have been clouds from the downdraught as module landed
    7. No Crater from landing
    8. Radiation etc no protection as untried from earth could not have been fully tested to prevent contamination, and death. Also the Van Allen belt would have fried them.

As with all conspiracies, there are 2 sides, and I just happen to like the view I take on it.

Take a look at an appropriate Web Site

    Re: Sky Plus

I knew Sky bought the Rights to the Amstrad name.

Seems like once you are out of year 1 you are on your own. It has been suggested the warranty period ends 12 months after your purchase of box #1.

I have the choice after the 1st year of buying a new replacement if needed off E-Bay or insuring the damn thing. Being cynical might think it is their way of making me upgrade to HD.

The annoying thing is when they replace you lose all you have recorded.
